Vyjadřování hodnotících postojů v anglickém novinovém diskurzu

The thesis deals with evaluation in English newspaper discourse. The corpora analysed were newly created for the purposes of the sub-analyses; they comprise articles from three British online newspapers - three tabloids (the Sun, the Express, the Mirror) and broadsheets (the Telegraph, the Independent, the Guardian). The classification of the thesis' core dimensions of evaluation - opinion and emotion - draws on Appraisal Theory (Martin and White, 2005). The thesis pursues answers to two fundamental questions 1) What means do British online newspapers use to express evaluation? 2) What differences (if any) are there in construing evaluation between the tabloids and the broadsheets? In order to obtain the answers, at first, a small manual analysis of six 'positive' and six 'negative' articles (one from each newspaper) is conducted. Attention is paid to the key word analysis and the word classes expressing evaluation, namely adjectives, nouns, and verbs. Based on the findings, I decided to explore evaluation conveyed by adjectives, in the second part of the study, by employing evaluative adjective lexico- grammatical patterns described by Hunston and Sinclair (2000) and further amended by Bednarek (2007b, 2009). Korpusy, které slouží k analýze, byly speciálně vytvořeny pro účely této práce. Skládají se z článků britských online novin - tří bulvárních novin (the Sun, the Express, the Mirror) a tří seriózních novin (the Telegraph, the Independent, the Guardian). Klasifikace základních kategorií této dizertace - kategorie názoru a emocí byla provedena na základě Appraisal Theory (Martin and White, 2005). Práce se zaměřuje na dvě hlavní otázky: 1) Jaké prostředky používají britské online noviny k vyjádření hodnotících postojů. 2) Jaké jsou rozdíly ve vyjadřování hodnotících postojů v bulvárním a seriózním tisku. K získání odpovědí byla nejprve použita malá manuální analýza, která zkoumala šest positivních a šest negativních článků (z každých novin byl použit jeden článek positivní a jeden negativní). Pozornost byla věnována analýze klíčových slov a slovním druhům, které vyjadřují hodnotící postoje, jmenovitě přídavným jménům, podstatným jménům a slovesům. Na základě získaných informací jsem se rozhodla věnovat se v druhé části práce lexiko-gramatickým vzorcům, které popsali Hunstonová a Sinclair (2000) a upravila Bednareková (2007b, 2009). Sudden cardiac arrest in a child with Gitelman syndrome: a case report and literature review

Salt-losing tubulopathies are well-recognised diseases predisposing to metabolic disturbances in affected patients. One of the most severe complications can be life-threatening arrhythmias causing sudden cardiac arrest. We present here the first case of a pediatric patient with Gitelman syndrome associated sudden cardiac arrest without precipitating event. A 10-year-old boy collapsed due to ventricular fibrillation in the Prague tram. Lay cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated and external defibrillation restored sinus rhythm within minutes. Initial laboratory examination revealed severe hypokalemia requiring large amounts of electrolyte supplementation. Genetic testing focused to tubulopathies was performed and the diagnosis of Gitelman syndrome was made following the identification of two pathogenic variants in SLC12A3 gene (c.2633 + 1G>A and c.2221G>A). Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator was implanted to prevent sudden cardiac death. The patient was in a good clinical condition with satisfactory electrolyte serum levels at the last follow-up. Causes of electrolyte abnormalities in children should be identified early to prevent the development of rare but potentially fatal complications

Validation of High Resolution Melting (HRM) for the purpose of DNA diagnostics: mutation analysis of the cystic fibrosis gene and selected candidates genes of male intertility

During the last years we have observed a rapid development of molecular genetic diagnostics (DNA diagnostics). New methods and technologies are rapidly being introduced and the spectrum of genetic services is gradually extended. Since germline genetic tests might have lifelong influence health and quality of patient's life, all efforts should aim at improvement of the overall quality of provided diagnostic services. An increasing number of laboratories replace their "in-house" developed techniques by the commercial diagnostic assays, but they often modify manufacturer's instructions. Therefore, it is necessary to validate and verify all methods and techniques before their implementation into routine DNA diagnostics. In this thesis I have focused on evaluation and application of High Resolution Melting (HRM) in clinical diagnostic practice based on its comprehensive validation, according to the major international quality assurance standard ISO 15189. On the model of selected genes (BRCA1, MTHFR, CFTR) we have confirmed the high utility of HRM for mutation scanning of unknown variants, as well as genotyping of common variants. Grundlegende evaluative adjektivische Formeln in der britischen seriösen und boulevard-presse

Novinový diskurz byl již mnohokrát analyzován. Ať už se jednalo o přístup kritický, stylistický, kognitivní, diachronický, sociolingvistický či přístup korpusní lingvistiky, tyto přístupy se nezaměřovaly na analýzu evaluace v textu. Proto se tento článek pokusí popsat a porovnat dva lexikogramatické vzorce, které byly poprvé identifikovány a popsány Hunstonovou a Sinclairem a upravený Bednarkovou. Na korpusu britských online bulvárních a seriózních novinových článků se ukázalo, že lexikogramatické vzorce ‘it v-link ADJ finite/non-finite clause’ a ‘v-link ADJ prep’ jsou nejčastěji používány k vyjádření evaluace. Tento článek porovnává nejen četnost výskytu těchto vzorců v daném korpusu, ale zaměřuje se také na rozdíly užití, které tyto vzorce vykazují v jednotlivých pod korpusech.Dyskurs dziennikarski był już analizowany wielokrotnie. Bez względu na to, czy było to podejście krytyczne, stylistyczne, kognitywne, diachroniczne, socjolingwistyczne czy podejście lingwistyki korpusowej, podejścia te nie skupiały się na analizie ewaluacji w tekście. Dlatego też w niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę opisania i porównania dwóch wzorców leksykogramatycznych, które po raz pierwszy zostały zidentyfikowane i opisane przez Hunston i Sinclaira i zmodyfikowane przez Bednarkovą. Na korpusie brytyjskich brukowych i poważnych artykułów gazetowych online okazało się, że wzorce leksykogramatyczne ‘it v-link ADJ finite/non-finite clause’ i ‘v-link ADJ prep’ są najczęściej stosowane do wyrażenia ewaluacji. Artykuł nie tylko porównuje częstotliwość występowania tych wzorców w danym korpusie, ale skupia się także na różnicach w zastosowaniu, jakimi charakteryzują się te wzorce w poszczególnych podkorpusach.News discourse has been analysed from different angles including the critical approach, stylistic approach, corpus-linguistic approach, cognitive approach, diachronic approach, socio-linguistic approach etc. [1]. Yet, these approaches do not focus on analysing attitude/evaluation as such. That is why this study sets out to explore and compare expressing attitude/evaluation via two lexicogrammatical patterns which were identified by Hunston and Sinclair [2] and amended by Bednarek [3]. The adjective lexicogrammatical patterns ‘it v-link ADJ finite/non-finite clause’ and ‘v-link ADJ prep’ seem to be the most prominent carriers of evaluative language in a corpus of six British English online ‘popular’ and ‘quality’ newspapers. The paper compares not only the frequency of the patterns in the corpus but also the differences in the use of the patterns between the quality and popular newspapers.Die Zeitungssprache ist schon viele Male analysiert worden. Ganz gleich, ob es sich dabei um einen kritischen, stilistischen, kognitiven, diachronischen, soziolinguistischen oder einen korpuslinguistischen Ansatz handelt, all diese Ansätze beschäftigen sich nicht mit der Evaluation im Text. Daher versucht dieser Beitrag zwei lexikalisch-grammatische Formeln zu beschreiben, welche zum ersten Mal von Hunston und Sinclair beschrieben und später von Bednarek systematisiert worden sind. An Hand eines Korpus von Artikeln britischer Online-Boulevard-Zeitungen hat sich gezeigt, dass die lexikalisch-grammatische Formeln ‘it v-link ADJ finite/non-finite clause’ und ‘v-link ADJ prep’ zum Ausdruck von Evaluationen am häufigsten Verwendung finden. Dieser Artikel vergleicht nicht nur die Häufigkeit des Auftretens solcher Formeln, sondern richtet die Aufmerksamkeit auch auf die Unterschiede im Gebrauch, welche diese Formeln in einzelnen Unterkorpora aufweisen
