Predictive analytics to support diabetic patient detection

The strong growth in the number of diabetics in recent years has become a major health concern. The dependence on sugar consumption has caused a rapid growth in the level of diagnoses and in the number of deaths associated. In this context, the project developed allowed a study on how Diabetes can be detected in a timely manner, through the existence of pre-indicators of the disease, defining factors that may determine its onset. For this study, data are collected from Hospital de Santa Luzia (ULSAM), considering aspects such as patient profile, prescribed drugs and previous diagnoses. The results prove that machine learning models using profile data with medical drugs produced the best results, optimizing the predictive ability of Diabetes.This work has been supported by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/202

Ship to line na Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal S.A.

Este artigo apresenta um estudo de caso desenvolvido na empresa Bosch Car Multimedia Portugal, que se dedica essencialmente à produção de sistemas multimédia (autorrádios e sistemas de navegação) para a indústria automóvel. Contém duas áreas produtivas, uma de produção de placas de circuitos impressos por inserção automática de componentes eletrónicos (SMD – Surface Mounted Device), e a outra, de inserção manual referente à montagem do aparelho final. O seu principal objetivo foi o de analisar o processo de abastecimento dos componentes que abastecem a área produtiva de inserção automática com vista a eliminar algumas movimentações desnecessárias dos componentes e a diminuir custos de inventário e de armazenamento. A metodologia adotada é baseada no conceito de Ship to Line (STL) no âmbito do Bosch Production System (BPS). Os resultados obtidos permitiram evidenciar as vantagens da utilização desta metodologia com ganhos muito significativos para a logística de abastecimento destes componentes

Synthesis of Di(Hetero)Arylamines and Ethers in the Thieno[3,2-b]Pyridine series by Metal-Catalyzed couplings

Synthesis of 2-(hetero)arylthieno[2,3-b] or [3,2-b]pyridines from 2,3-dihalopyridines, (hetero)arylalkynes and Na2S. Further functionalizations

A simple and efficient three-step methodology is described for the first time for the synthesis of 2-(hetero)arylthieno[2,3-b] or [3,2-b]pyridines. The first step is a Sonogashira coupling from 3-bromo-2-chloropyridine or 2-bromo-3-chloropyridine with several (hetero)arylalkynes to obtain the corresponding 2- or 3-chloro(hetero)arylethynylpyridines. These were cyclized by treatment with Na2S affording the expected 2-(hetero)arylthienopyridines. As an improvement, these reactions were also performed in one-pot, without the isolation of the Sonogashira product, giving the thienopyridines in similar or better yields, reducing significantly the reaction time after the addition of Na2S. Further functionalizations were achieved in the thienopyridine system either by bromination in the thiophene ring or chlorination in the pyridine ring via a N-oxide intermediate, allowing metal-catalyzed coupling reactions and/or nucleophilic substitutions. The functionalization of some substituents is also possible and as an example a 1,3-diarylurea was obtained from the reaction of an aniline derivative with an arylisocyanate.Foundation for the Science and Technology (FCT – Portugal) for financial support through the NMR Portuguese network (Bruker 400 Avance III-Univ Minho).
