The Structure of Debt and Active Equity Investors: The Case of the Buyout Specialist
This paper examines the role buyout specialists play in structuring the debt used to finance the LBO and in monitoring management in the post-LBO firm. We find that when buyout specialists control the majority of the post-LBO equity, the LBO transaction is likely to be financed with less short-term and/or senior debt and less likely to experience financial distress. We also find that buyout specialists have greater board representation on smaller boards, suggesting that they actively monitor managers, and that for these transactions, using debt with tighter terms does not significantly increase the firm\u27s performance. In contrast, in all other transactions using such debt does significantly increase the firm\u27s performance. These findings suggest that active monitoring by a buyout specialist substitutes for tighter debt terms in monitoring and motivating managers of LBOs

Extreme ultraviolet and X-ray spectroheliograph for OSO-H
A complex scientific instrument was designed, fabricated, tested, and calibrated for launch onboard OSO-H. This instrument consisted of four spectroheliographs and an X-ray polarimeter. The instrument is designed to study solar radiation at selected wavelengths in the X-ray and the extreme ultraviolet ranges, make observations at the H-alpha wavelength, and measure the degree of polarization of X-ray emissions
The COINS Sample - VLBA Identifications of Compact Symmetric Objects
We present results of multifrequency polarimetric VLBA observations of 34
compact radio sources. The observations are part of a large survey undertaken
to identify CSOs Observed in the Northern Sky (COINS). Compact Symmetric
Objects (CSOs) are of particular interest in the study of the physics and
evolution of active galaxies. Based on VLBI continuum surveys of ~2000 compact
radio sources, we have defined a sample of 52 CSOs and CSO candidates. In this
paper, we identify 18 previously known CSOs, and introduce 33 new CSO
candidates. We present continuum images at several frequencies and, where
possible, images of the polarized flux density and spectral index distributions
for the 33 new candidates and one previously known but unconfirmed source. We
find evidence to support the inclusion of 10 of these condidates into the class
of CSOs. Thirteen candidates, including the previously unconfirmed source, have
been ruled out. Eleven sources require further investigation. The addition of
the 10 new confirmed CSOs increases the size of this class of objects by 50%.Comment: 24 pages, incl 8 figures. Accepted for publication in ApJ. Figure

Writing a wrong: Coupled RNA polymerase II transcription and RNA quality control
Processing and maturation of precursor RNA species is coupled to RNA polymerase II transcription. Co-transcriptional RNA processing helps to ensure efficient and proper capping, splicing, and 3' end processing of different RNA species to help ensure quality control of the transcriptome. Many improperly processed transcripts are not exported from the nucleus, are restricted to the site of transcription, and are in some cases degraded, which helps to limit any possibility of aberrant RNA causing harm to cellular health. These critical quality control pathways are regulated by the highly dynamic protein-protein interaction network at the site of transcription. Recent work has further revealed the extent to which the processes of transcription and RNA processing and quality control are integrated, and how critically their coupling relies upon the dynamic protein interactions that take place co-transcriptionally. This review focuses specifically on the intricate balance between 3' end processing and RNA decay during transcription termination. The septin cytoskeleton facilitates membrane retraction during motility and blebbing.
Increasing evidence supports a critical role for the septin cytoskeleton at the plasma membrane during physiological processes including motility, formation of dendritic spines or cilia, and phagocytosis. We sought to determine how septins regulate the plasma membrane, focusing on this cytoskeletal element's role during effective amoeboid motility. Surprisingly, septins play a reactive rather than proactive role, as demonstrated during the response to increasing hydrostatic pressure and subsequent regulatory volume decrease. In these settings, septins were required for rapid cortical contraction, and SEPT6-GFP was recruited into filaments and circular patches during global cortical contraction and also specifically during actin filament depletion. Recruitment of septins was also evident during excessive blebbing initiated by blocking membrane trafficking with a dynamin inhibitor, providing further evidence that septins are recruited to facilitate retraction of membranes during dynamic shape change. This function of septins in assembling on an unstable cortex and retracting aberrantly protruding membranes explains the excessive blebbing and protrusion observed in septin-deficient T cells

Flight Measurements of Base Pressure on Bodies of Revolution with and Without Simulated Rocket Chambers
Base pressures were measured on fin-stabilized bodies of revolution with and without rocket chambers and with and without a converging afterbody. At Mach numbers between 0.7 and 1.2, the results show that the presence of a "cold" rocket chamber increased the pressure (less suction) over the center portion of the bases. The effects of rocket chambers on pressures near the edge of the bases were not as consistent throughout the Mach number range nor as appreciable at most speeds as were the effects of pressures measured on the center line
