Gluinos condensing at the CCNI: 4096 CPUs weigh in
We report preliminary results of lattice super-Yang-Mills computations using
domain wall fermions, performed at an actual rate of 1000 Gflop/s, over the
course of six months, using two BlueGene/L racks at Rensselaer's CCNI
supercomputing center. This has allowed us to compute the gluino condensate and
string tension over a wide range of lattice parameters, setting the stage for

How Many and What Types of SPARQL Queries can be Answered through Zero-Knowledge Link Traversal?
The current de-facto way to query the Web of Data is through the SPARQL
protocol, where a client sends queries to a server through a SPARQL endpoint.
Contrary to an HTTP server, providing and maintaining a robust and reliable
endpoint requires a significant effort that not all publishers are willing or
able to make. An alternative query evaluation method is through link traversal,
where a query is answered by dereferencing online web resources (URIs) at real
time. While several approaches for such a lookup-based query evaluation method
have been proposed, there exists no analysis of the types (patterns) of queries
that can be directly answered on the live Web, without accessing local or
remote endpoints and without a-priori knowledge of available data sources. In
this paper, we first provide a method for checking if a SPARQL query (to be
evaluated on a SPARQL endpoint) can be answered through zero-knowledge link
traversal (without accessing the endpoint), and analyse a large corpus of real
SPARQL query logs for finding the frequency and distribution of answerable and
non-answerable query patterns. Subsequently, we provide an algorithm for
transforming answerable queries to SPARQL-LD queries that bypass the endpoints.
We report experimental results about the efficiency of the transformed queries

Interacting staggered domain wall fermions
The behavior of staggered domain wall fermions in the presence of gauge
fields is presented. In particular, their response to gauge fields with

A simulation of the Schwinger model in the overlap formalism
In the continuum, the single flavor massless Schwinger model has an exact
global axial symmetry in the sector of perturbative gauge fields. This
symmetry is explicitly broken by gauge fields with nonzero topological charge
inducing a nonzero expectation value for the bilinear . We show
that a lattice formulation of this model, using the overlap formalism to treat
the massless fermions, explicitly exhibits this phenomenon. A Monte Carlo
simulation of the complete system yields the correct value of the fermion
condensate and shows unambiguously that it originates from the sector of

Breast Cancer Awareness Among Zayed University Female Students
Background/Aim : Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among female population worldwide. In the United Arab Emirates, breast cancer accounts for 31-43% of all cancer types. Recently, breast cancer incidence has declined as a result of development of better diagnostic techniques. Good knowledge and awareness about early detection of signs and symptoms of the disease are the most important keys for reducing morbidity and mortality. This study aims to evaluate the level of awareness about the risk factors of breast cancer, as well as, the knowledge about screening methods among female students at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi. Method: Â A random cross-sectional survey was carried to evaluate the level of awareness about breast cancer among female students at Zayed University. A total of 100 females aged 18 “31 from different colleges were included in the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21 program. Chi- square test was used together with Fisher\u27s exact test, as appropriate. P value \u3c0.05 was considered significant. Results: The results show that there is a lack of knowledge and awareness about the risk factors for breast cancer. Only 12% of the participants knew that physical inactivity is a risk factor. However, 29% of the participants knew that obesity is a risk factor. Knowledge about screening methods was poor and varied according to the marital and educational status of the students. Only 17% of the total participants have done breast self-examination. Single women had less frequently performed breast self-examination compared to married women Although 40% of the participants knew about ultra sound, only 22% of the students did have the knowledge about the proper age of mammogram screening. Conclusion: The results point to the lack of awareness among female students about breast cancer, the risk factors and screening methods. Therefore, effective educational programs are required to improve the knowledge level of university students regarding breast cancer and related practices

Jensen-Shannon Complexity and Permutation Entropy Analysis of Geomagnetic Auroral Currents
In this study we determine whether auroral westward currents can be characterized by low-dimensional chaotic attractors through the use of the complexity-entropy methodology developed by Rosso et al. (2007, https:// doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.99.154102) and based on the permutation entropy developed by Bandt and Pompe (2002, https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.88.174102) . Our results indicate that geomagnetic auroral indices are indistinguishable from stochastic processes from time scales ranging from a few minutes to 10 hr and for embedded dimensions d <8. Our results are inconsistent with earlier studies of Baker et al. (1990, https://doi.org/10.1029/GL017i001p00041), Pavlos et al. (1992), D. Roberts et al. (1991, https://doi.org/10.1029/91GL00021), D. A. Roberts (1991, https://doLorg/10.1029/91JA01088), and Vassiliadis et al. (1990, https://doi.org/10.1029/GL017i011 p01841, 1991, https://doi.org/10.1029/91GL01378) indicating that auroral geomagnetic indices could be reduced to low-dimensional systems with chaotic dynamics.Peer reviewe

Decline of seagrass (Posidonia oceanica) production over two decades in the face of warming of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea
* The response of Posidonia oceanica meadows to global warming of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, where the increase in sea surface temperature (SST) is particularly severe, is poorly investigated. * Here, we reconstructed the long-term P. oceanica production in 60 meadows along the Greek Seas over two decades (1997–2018), using lepidochronology. We determined the effect of warming on production by reconstructing the annual and maximum (i.e. August) SST, considering the role of other production drivers related to water quality (i.e. Chla, suspended particulate matter, Secchi depth). * Grand mean (±SE) production across all sites and the study period was 48 ± 1.1 mg DW per shoot yr−1. Production over the last two decades followed a trajectory of decrease, which was related to the concurrent increase in annual SST and SSTaug. Annual SST \u3e 20°C and SSTaug \u3e 26.5°C was related to production decline (GAMM, P \u3c 0.05), while the rest of the tested factors did not help explain the production pattern. * Our results indicate a persistent and increasing threat for Eastern Mediterranean meadows, drawing attention to management authorities, highlighting the necessity of reducing local impacts to enhance the resilience of seagrass meadows to global change threats
