Trauma Exposure And Sexual Revictimization Risk: Comparisons Across Single, Multiple Incident, And Multiple Perpetrator Victimizations
Although research demonstrates a link between child sexual abuse and sexual revictimization in adolescence or adulthood, less is known about specific mechanisms that increase women\u27s vulnerability to reassault. This study examined experiential and outcome differences between survivors of a single assault, survivors of ongoing abuse by a single perpetrator, and survivors of multiple assaults by different offenders. Multiply victimized women differed from survivors of a single assault or of ongoing abuse on psychological distress, health, and nonsexual trauma variables. Revictimization by new perpetrators was predicted by an earlier age during a first sexual assault and by nonsexual trauma in childhood

Retirements of Coal and Oil Power Plants in California: Association With Reduced Preterm Birth Among Populations Nearby.
Coal and oil power plant retirements reduce air pollution nearby, but few studies have leveraged these natural experiments for public health research. We used California Department of Public Health birth records and US Energy Information Administration data from 2001-2011 to evaluate the relationship between the retirements of 8 coal and oil power plants and nearby preterm (gestational age of <37 weeks) birth. We conducted a difference-in-differences analysis using adjusted linear mixed models that included 57,005 births-6.3% of which were preterm-to compare the probability of preterm birth before and after power plant retirement among mothers residing within 0-5 km and 5-10 km of the 8 power plants. We found that power plant retirements were associated with a decrease in the proportion of preterm birth within 5 km (-0.019, 95% CI: -0.031, -0.008) and 5-10 km (-0.015, 95% CI: -0.024, -0.007), controlling for secular trends with mothers living 10-20 km away. For the 0-5-km area, this corresponds to a reduction in preterm birth from 7.0% to 5.1%. Subgroup analyses indicated a potentially larger association among non-Hispanic black and Asian mothers than among non-Hispanic white and Hispanic mothers and no differences in educational attainment. Future coal and oil power plant retirements may reduce preterm birth among nearby populations
Personalized behavior change program for glaucoma patients with poor adherence: a pilot interventional cohort study with a pre-post design
Abstract
Background
About half of people with glaucoma do not adhere to their recommended medications. Interventions for other chronic conditions have successfully utilized reminder systems and motivational interviewing (MI)-based counseling. This study was designed to pilot a personalized intervention that leverages these strategies to assess their impact on medication adherence in glaucoma patients.
Methods
Glaucoma patients taking ≥ 1 medication will be pre-screened by telephone survey for adherence to their medication(s). Those who self-report poor adherence will be enrolled in a 3-month monitoring period to measure medication adherence using electronic medication monitors. Participants who are non-adherent (take </=80% of their medication doses) over the 3-month run in phase will be eligible for the study. We plan to enroll 57 participants who are non-adherent to their medications. Participants’ adherence will then be continuously measured with electronic medication monitors, by self-report, and via pharmacy refill data over 2 years, during which two successively more resource-intensive components of an intervention aimed to improve medication adherence will be administered. The first component is a 3-month period of reminders (audio and/or visual) and text message or automated phone call if a dose of medication is not taken within a pre-specified time frame. The second component is a 6-month MI-based counseling program with a trained glaucoma counselor. This component uses the eyeGuide, a computer-based personalized behavior change program that enables para-professional staff to provide personalized education and counseling for glaucoma. The primary outcome is change in medication adherence. The secondary outcomes include changes in clinical outcomes (intraocular pressure, IOP, and IOP fluctuation) and psychosocial mediators of adherence (e.g., competence, energy for change and satisfaction). Participants will undergo semi-structured interviews at 12 months to give feedback about the counseling program in order to improve it.
Discussion
This pilot study will provide insight into ways to deliver more personalized health care to non-adherent glaucoma patients in order to better support them in managing their chronic disease.

Characterization of decavanadate and decaniobate solutions by Raman spectroscopy
The decaniobate ion, (Nb10 = [Nb10O28]6−) being isoelectronic and isostructural with the decavanadate
ion (V10 = [V10O28]6−), but chemically and electrochemically more inert, has been useful in advancing the
understanding of V10 toxicology and pharmacological activities. In the present study, the solution chemistry
of Nb10 and V10 between pH 4 and 12 is studied by Raman spectroscopy. The Raman spectra of V10
show that this vanadate species dominates up to pH 6.45 whereas it remains detectable until pH 8.59,
which is an important range for biochemistry. Similarly, Nb10 is present between pH 5.49 and 9.90 and
this species remains detectable in solution up to pH 10.80. V10 dissociates at most pH values into smaller
tetrahedral vanadate oligomers such as V1 and V2, whereas Nb10 dissociates into Nb6 under mildly (10 >
pH > 7.6) or highly alkaline conditions. Solutions of V10 and Nb10 are both kinetically stable under basic pH
conditions for at least two weeks and at moderate temperature. The Raman method provides a means of
establishing speciation in the difficult niobate system and these findings have important consequences for
toxicology activities and pharmacological applications of vanadate and niobate polyoxometalates
Decavanadate, decaniobate, tungstate and molybdate interactions with sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase: quercetin prevents cysteine oxidation by vanadate but does not reverse ATPase inhibition
Recently we demonstrated that the decavanadate (V10) ion is a stronger Ca2+-ATPase inhibitor than other oxometalates, such as the isoelectronic and isostructural decaniobate ion, and the tungstate and molybdate monomer ions, and that it binds to this protein with a 1 : 1 stoichiometry. The V10 interaction is not affected by any of the protein conformations that occur during the process of calcium translocation
(i.e. E1, E1P, E2 and E2P) (Fraqueza et al., J. Inorg. Biochem., 2012). In the present study, we further explore this subject, and we can now show that the decaniobate ion, [Nb10 = Nb10O28]6−, is a useful tool
in deducing the interaction and the non-competitive Ca2+-ATPase inhibition by the decavanadate ion [V10 = V10O28]6−. Moreover, decavanadate and vanadate induce protein cysteine oxidation whereas no effects were detected for the decaniobate, tungstate or molybdate ions. The presence of the antioxidant quercetin prevents cysteine oxidation, but not ATPase inhibition, by vanadate or decavanadate. Definitive
V(IV) EPR spectra were observed for decavanadate in the presence of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-
ATPase, indicating a vanadate reduction at some stage of the protein interaction. Raman spectroscopy clearly shows that the protein conformation changes that are induced by V10, Nb10 and vanadate are different from the ones induced by molybdate and tungstate monomer ions. Here, Mo and W cause
changes similar to those by phosphate, yielding changes similar to the E1P protein conformation. The putative reduction of vanadium(V) to vanadium(IV) and the non-competitive binding of the V10 and Nb10
decametalates may explain the differences in the Raman spectra compared to those seen in the presence of molybdate or tungstate. Putting it all together, we suggest that the ability of V10 to inhibit the Ca2+-
ATPase may be at least in part due to the process of vanadate reduction and associated protein cysteine oxidation. These results contribute to the understanding and application of these families of mono- and

Eye Care Providers' Attitudes Towards Tele-ophthalmology
Background: The rapid rise of e-health and remote care systems will likely change the practice patterns of ophthalmologists. Although telemedicine practices are thriving in many specialties of medicine, telemedicine for ophthalmology has been limited primarily to asynchronous care for diabetic retinopathy. The goal of this research was to evaluate perspectives on and familiarity with telemedicine among eye care providers at a large tertiary-care medical center via an anonymous, descriptive survey. Results: In total, 58 eye care physicians completed surveys (response rates of 86% for physicians-in-training and 49% for faculty physicians, respectively). Although a majority of both faculty and physicians-in-training were willing to participate in telemedicine services, trainees were more likely to be willing to interpret photographs than faculty (p=0.04). Most respondents (71%) indicated that they did not use telemedicine. Over half had received photographs (via phone or e-mail) for interpretation from referring physicians (54%) or patients (56%) within the past 3 months. A majority of providers (82%) would be willing to participate in telemedicine for consultations and for interpreting photographs, but a majority (59%) had low confidence in remote care for providing an opinion on patient care. Conclusions: Most eye care providers viewed telemedicine as part of the future of eye care but were concerned about the use of telemedicine. Portuguese category norms for children
This study presents Portuguese category norms for children of three different age groups: preschoolers (3- to
4-year-olds), second graders (7- to 8-year-olds), and preadolescents (11- to 12-year-olds). Three hundred Portuguese
children (100 in each group) completed an exemplar-generation task. Preschoolers generated exemplars
for 13 categories, second graders generated exemplars for 17 categories, and preadolescents generated exemplars
for 21 categories. For each group, responses within each category were organized according to frequency of
production in order to derive exemplar-production norms for sets of tested categories. The results also included
information about the number of responses and exemplars, idiosyncratic and inappropriate responses, and commonality
and diversity indexes for all the categories. A comparison of these children’s norms with the Portuguese

Enhancing viscosity control in antibody formulations : a framework for the biophysical screening of mutations targeting solvent-accessible hydrophobic and electrostatic patches
The formulation of high-concentration monoclonal antibody (mAb) solutions in low dose volumes for autoinjector devices poses challenges in manufacturability and patient administration due to elevated solution viscosity. In the current study, we present a systematic experimental framework for the computational screening of molecular descriptors to guide the design of mutants with modified viscosity profiles accompanied by experimental evaluation. Our observations using a model anti-IL8 antibody reveal that the reduction in viscosity is influenced by the location of hydrophobic interactions, while targeting positively charged patches in mAb1 leads to the most significant viscosity increase compared to the wild-type mAb. We conclude that existing in silico predictions of physicochemical properties exhibit poor correlation with experimental parameters for antibodies with suboptimal developability characteristics, emphasizing the necessity for comprehensive case-by-case evaluations of mAbs. This approach aids in the rational design of mAbs with tailored solution viscosities, ensuring improved manufacturability and patient convenience in self-administration scenarios
