Introduction: The treatment of fibromyalgia is evolving, and more and more drugs are available on the market. Objective: To verify the response, tolerability, and adverse events of the use of psychotropic drugs in the treatment of fibromyalgia. Methods: A systematic review of articles on fibromyalgia and psychotropic medications were carried out, indexed in the MEDLINE database (PUBMED) with the MeSH terms: “fibromyalgia”, “psychotropic drugs,” and “treatment outcome”. Of the 89 studies identified, 23 met the eligibility criteria. Results: It has been seen that some classes of psychotropic medications have significantly improved patients' painful episodes, which have an important positive impact on quality of life. Thus, it was realized that the pharmacological treatment of psychiatric disorders associated with fibromyalgia improves the condition of the patient's acceptance of the disease. Most medications had a good impact on the patient's quality of life without major side effects. It is known that adverse events are proportional to the dose of psychotropics, so for each patient, it is necessary to individualize the conduct. Conclusion: Antidepressants were the best-tolerated drug class, but antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, and other more recent drugs such as agomelatine were part of the study of the main drugs used in clinical practice.

Introduction: the public health crisis caused by COVID-19, a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, has imposed physical threats and psychological suffering on both infected patients and individuals who experience social isolation and various governmental restrictions, leading to the appearance of symptoms like anxiety, depression, as well as insomnia, stress, and changes in biological rhythm. In face of this stressful scenario, interventions based on mindfulness (MBIs) have proved to be potentially adequate tools in reducing psychological suffering and generating well-being in the general population. Objective: to describe the effects of mindfulness-based interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted on the effects of mindfulness intervention in times of COVID-19. The articles were searched in four databases (Pubmed, Embase, Scopus, and Science direct) and the PRISMA protocol was used to conduct this review. In total, fourteen articles were included in the study. Results: the use of mindfulness techniques in the population with impaired mental health because of the COVID-19 pandemic proved to be beneficial, with improvement in emotional stress scores and reduction in anxiety symptoms, through formal mindfulness meditation practices such as mindful breathing, body scanning, and application of the mindfulness-based stress reduction strategy (MBSR). Strategies were also applied through smartphone applications that had the objective of promoting the increase of mindfulness and the development of the acceptance without judgment of the traumatic experiences already lived, in addition to an integrated intervention on the internet with the use of mindfulness, the training of respiratory relaxation, refuge skills and Butterfly Hug Method. Conclusion: with the pandemic going through, still with high mortality, continuity of social isolation, and, consequently, intensification of psychic suffering in the population and health professionals, interventions based on mindfulness (MBIs) are being effective to reduce this suffering, prevent the appearance of of chronic mental disorders and promote positive impacts on physical and mental well-being.

Background: Osteoporosis is a disease of bone metabolism in which bisphosphonates (BPS) are the most common medications used in its treatment, whose main objective is to reduce the risk of fractures. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review on BPs adherence for treatment of osteoporosis. Methods. Systematic review of articles on BPs adherence for treatment of osteoporosis, indexed on MEDLINE (via PubMed) databases, from inception of databases until January 2013. Search terms were Adherence, Medication (MeSH term), Bisphosphonates (MeSH term), and Osteoporosis (MeSH term). Results: Of the 78 identified studies, 27 met the eligibility criteria. Identified studies covered a wide range of aspects regarding adherence and associated factors, adherence and fracture, adherence and BPs dosage. The studies are mostly observational, conducted with women over 45 years old, showing low rates of adherence to treatment. Several factors may influence adherence: socio-economic and cultural, participation of physicians when guidance is given to the patient, the use of bone turnover markers, and use of generic drugs. The monthly dosage is associated with greater adherence compared to weekly dosage. Conclusions: Considering the methodological differences between the studies, the results converge to show that adherence to treatment of osteoporosis with BPs is still inadequate. Further experimental studies are needed to evaluate the adherence and suggest new treatment options. © 2013 Vieira et al.; licensee BioMed Central Ltd

Sensitivity of the Cherenkov Telescope Array to the gamma-ray emission from neutrino sources detected by IceCube

Gamma-ray observations of the astrophysical neutrino sources are fundamentally important for understanding the underlying neutrino production mechanism. We investigate the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) ability to detect the very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray counterparts to the neutrino-emitting Active Galaxies. The CTA performance under different configurations and array layouts is computed based on the neutrino and gamma-ray simulations of steady and transient types of sources, assuming that the neutrino events are detected with the IceCube neutrino telescope. The CTA detection probability is calculated for both CTA sites taking into account the visibility constraints. We find that, under optimal observing conditions, CTA could observe the VHE gamma-ray emission from at least 3 neutrino events per year

Chasing Gravitational Waves with the Chereknov Telescope Array

Presented at the 38th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC 2023), 2023 (arXiv:2309.08219)2310.07413International audienceThe detection of gravitational waves from a binary neutron star merger by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo (GW170817), along with the discovery of the electromagnetic counterparts of this gravitational wave event, ushered in a new era of multimessenger astronomy, providing the first direct evidence that BNS mergers are progenitors of short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Such events may also produce very-high-energy (VHE, > 100GeV) photons which have yet to be detected in coincidence with a gravitational wave signal. The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is a next-generation VHE observatory which aims to be indispensable in this search, with an unparalleled sensitivity and ability to slew anywhere on the sky within a few tens of seconds. New observing modes and follow-up strategies are being developed for CTA to rapidly cover localization areas of gravitational wave events that are typically larger than the CTA field of view. This work will evaluate and provide estimations on the expected number of of gravitational wave events that will be observable with CTA, considering both on- and off-axis emission. In addition, we will present and discuss the prospects of potential follow-up strategies with CTA
