Neutron inelastic scattering investigation of the magnetic excitations in Cu_2Te_2O_5X_2 (X=Br, Cl)
Neutron inelastic scattering investigations have been performed on the spin
tetrahedral system Cu_2Te_2O_5X_2 (X = Cl, Br). We report the observation of
magnetic excitations with a dispersive component in both compounds, associated
with the 3D incommensurate magnetic order that develops below =18.2
K and =11.4 K. The excitation in Cu_2Te_2O_5Cl_2 softens as the
temperature approaches , leaving diffuse quasi-elastic scattering
above the transition temperature. In the bromide, the excitations are present
well above , which might be attributed to the presence of a degree
of low dimensional correlations above in this compound
Incommensurate magnetic ordering in Cu2Te2O5X2 (X=Cl, Br) studied by single crystal neutron diffraction
Polarized and unpolarized neutron diffraction studies have been carried out
on single crystals of the coupled spin tetrahedra systems Cu2Te2O5X2 (X=Cl,
Br). A model of the magnetic structure associated with the propagation vectors
k'Cl ~ -0.150,0.422,1/2 and k'Br ~ -0.172,0.356,1/2 and stable below TN=18 K
for X=Cl and TN=11 K for X=Br is proposed. A feature of the model, common to
both the bromide and chloride, is a canted coplanar motif for the 4 Cu2+ spins
on each tetrahedron which rotates on a helix from cell to cell following the
propagation vector. The Cu2+magnetic moment determined for X=Br, 0.395(5)muB,
is significantly less than for X=Cl, 0.88(1)muB at 2K. The magnetic structure
of the chloride associated with the wave-vector k' differs from that determined
previously for the wave vector k~0.150,0.422,1/2 [O. Zaharko et.al. Phys. Rev.

Acceptability and feasibility of point-of-care CD4 testing on HIV continuum of care in low and middle income countries: a systematic review
Background: CD4 testing is, and will remain an important part of HIV treatment and care in low and middle income countries (LMICs). We report the findings of a systematic review assessing acceptability and feasibility of POC CD4 testing in field settings.
Methods: Electronic databases were searched for studies published in English between 2005 and 2015 that describe POC CD4 platforms. Studies conducted in LMICs and under field conditions outside a laboratory environment were eligible. Qualitative and descriptive data analysis was used to present the findings.
Results: Twelve studies were included, 11 of which were conducted in sub-Saharan countries and used one POC CD4 test (The Alere Pima CD4). Patients reported positively regarding the implementation of POC CD4 testing at primary health care and community level with ≥90 % of patients accepting the test across various study settings. Health service providers expressed preference toward POC CD4 testing as it is easy-to-use, efficient and satisfied patients\u27 needs to a greater extent as compared to conventional methods. However, operational challenges including preference toward venous blood rather than finger-prick sampling, frequent device failures and operator errors, quality of training for test operators and supervisors, and increased staff workload were also identified.
Conclusions: POC CD4 testing seems acceptable and feasible in LIMCs under field conditions. Further studies using different POC CD4 tests available on the market are required to provide critical data to support countries in selection and implementation of appropriate POC CD4 technologies
Field-Induced Magnetization Steps in Intermetallic Compounds and Manganese Oxides: The Martensitic Scenario
Field-induced magnetization jumps with similar characteristics are observed
at low temperature for the intermetallic germanide Gd5Ge4and the mixed-valent
manganite Pr0.6Ca0.4Mn0.96Ga0.04O3. We report that the field location -and even
the existence- of these jumps depends critically on the magnetic field sweep
rate used to record the data. It is proposed that, for both compounds, the
martensitic character of their antiferromagnetic-to-ferromagnetic transitions
is at the origin of the magnetization steps.Comment: 4 pages,4 figure
Field Performance and Diagnostic Accuracy of a Low-Cost Instrument-Free Point-of-Care CD4 Test (Visitect CD4) Performed by Different Health Worker Cadres among Pregnant Women
Measuring CD4 counts remains an important component of HIV care. The Visitect CD4 is the first instrument-free low-cost point-of-care CD4 test with results interpreted visually after 40 min, providing a result of 350 CD4 cells/mm3. The field performance and diagnostic accuracy of the test was assessed among HIVinfected pregnant women in South Africa. A nurse performed testing at the point-ofcare using both venous and finger-prick blood, and a counselor and laboratory staff tested venous blood in the clinic laboratory (four Visitect CD4 tests/participant). Performance was compared to the mean CD4 count from duplicate flow cytometry tests on venous blood (FACSCalibur Trucount). In 2017, 156 patients were enrolled, providing a total of 624 Visitect CD4 tests (468 venous and 156 finger-prick samples). Of 624 tests, 28 (4.5%) were inconclusive. Generalized linear mixed modeling showed better performance of the test on venous blood (sensitivity 81.7%; 95% confidence interval [CI] 72.3 to 91.1]; specificity 82.6%, 95% CI 77.1 to 88.1) than on finger-prick specimens (sensitivity 60.7%; 95% CI 45.0 to 76.3; specificity 89.5%, 95% CI 83.2 to 95.8; P 0.001). No difference in performance was detected by cadre of health worker (P 0.113) or between point-of-care versus laboratory-based testing (P 0.108). Adequate performance of Visitect CD4 with different operators and at the point of care, with no need of electricity or instrument, shows the potential utility of this device, especially for facilitating decentralization of CD4 testing services in rural areas

Despite their popularity, on-line games and Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games in particular are still a comparatively under-researched area in the fields of both Education and more broadly Youth Studies. Drawing on a Five year ethnographic study, this paper considers the ways that young people use the virtual spaces offered by MMORPGs. This paper suggests that MMORPGs represent significant arenas within which young people act out a range of social narratives through gaming. It argues that MMORPG have become important fantasy spaces which offer young people possibilities to engage in what were formally material practices. Although this form of play is grounded in the everyday it also extends material practices and offers new and unique forms of symbolic experimentation, thus I argue that game-play narratives cannot be divorced from the everyday lives of their participants
The effect of exercise on cytokines: implications for musculoskeletal health: a narrative review
The physiological effects of physical exercise are ubiquitously reported as beneficial to the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems. Exercise is widely promoted by medical professionals to aid both physical and emotional wellbeing; however, mechanisms through which this is achieved are less well understood. Despite numerous beneficial attributes, certain types of exercise can inflict significant significant physiological stress. Several studies document a key relationship between exercise and immune activation. Activation of the innate immune system occurs in response to exercise and it is proposed this is largely mediated by cytokine signalling. Cytokines are typically classified according to their inflammatory properties and evidence has shown that cytokines expressed in response to exercise are diverse and may act to propagate, modulate or mitigate inflammation in musculoskeletal health. The review summarizes the existing literature on the relationship between exercise and the immune system with emphasis on how exercise-induced cytokine expression modulates inflammation and the immune response
Hyperspherical partial wave theory applied to electron hydrogen-atom ionization calculation for equal energy sharing kinematics
Hyperspherical partial wave theory has been applied here in a new way in the
calculation of the triple differential cross sections for the ionization of
hydrogen atoms by electron impact at low energies for various
equal-energy-sharing kinematic conditions. The agreement of the cross section
results with the recent absolute measurements of R\"oder \textit {et al} [51]
and with the latest theoretical results of the ECS and CCC calculations [29]
for different kinematic conditions at 17.6 eV is very encouraging. The other
calculated results, for relatively higher energies, are also generally
satisfactory, particularly for large geometries. In view of the
present results, together with the fact that it is capable of describing
unequal-energy-sharing kinematics [35], it may be said that the hyperspherical
partial wave theory is quite appropriate for the description of ionization
events of electron-hydrogen type systems. It is also clear that the present
approach in the implementation of the hyperspherical partial wave theory is
