Surfing or drowning? Student nurses’ Internet skills

    Get PDF
The ability to use the Internet is an essential skill for nursing students, both to support their studies, especially as nursing students spend a lot of their time in placements away from the university campus, and to support their development of skills in using what is becoming an increasingly essential tool for professionals. A study at Bournemouth University, England, found that new student nurses had poor Internet skills and were not frequent users prior to starting the course. No link was found between the students’ ages and their Internet use or skills. A clear link was however found between ability and frequency of use, except in relationship to the students’ ability to conduct an effective search. Almost half of the respondents said that they find far too much irrelevant information when searching for information on the Internet. Given the importance of Information and Technology skills to nurses, both as lifelong learners and as competent practitioners and to nursing students throughout their pre-registration education, the inclusion of a programme to ensure that they develop these skills during their pre-registration education is essential

The problem of reality: in Jean Baudrillard’s philosophy

The study deals with J. Baudrillad’s conception of reality as hyper reality. J. Baudrillad’s conception of hyper reality and the lost of referential reality is presented through the analysis of numerous writings, articles as well as critical texts. First of all, the author’s conception of simulated and non-referential reality is compared with the classical understanding of reality, which contains dualistic tension, whereas the other is nuclear and the distinctions between object/subject, true/false, real/unreal are no longer possible. Then the author of the study also brings the theme of ‘produced reality’ and mass mediated life as it is represented in J. Baudrillad’s philosophical writings. The influence of hyper reality on the practical way of life is also analyzed. Finally, the themes of non-referential language, philosophical dialogue and possibility for classical philosophy are considered.Švietimo akademijaVytauto Didžiojo universiteta

Aim of the project: The research aims to assess the composer’s ability to control and lead the listeners emotional response inside an epic composition and how it creates an unusual feeling of strong emotions such as courageousness and triumph. Methods: The research analyzed popular epic movie soundtracks such as the main Star Wars theme, Lord of the Rings compositions and sounds, as well as video game Epic themes such as God of War to learn why and how these tracks evoke these strong and uplifting emotions Conclusion: The results have revealed that although there are countless ways the composer can influence the emotional response of the listener, the vital point is how they use the emotional triggers to bring the track to another level of expression. Power, Authority, Greatness are all the words that come to mind when thinking about an epic composition. The theme in the composition is the most important part, it tells the story which the listener follows, sometimes it gets darker sometimes it gets brighter, but after long and tense build ups the story always reaches its climax, which brings all the instruments together accompanied by powerfully accented percussion lines. The listener is affected strongly with sharp contrasts in musical texture, unexpected changes to silence, or variety of moods. Epic music is all about trying to create these moments that the listener will remember and say that was epic.Menų fakultetasŠiuolaikinių menų katedr

    No full text
Background. Ankle sprain is the most common sports injury. Conducting phy - siotherapy with unstable platforms efficiently decreases risk of ankle injuries and increases static and dynamic balance parameters. The aim. To estimate the effect of physiotherapy on balance of volleyball play - ers and the prevention of ankle injuries. Methods . The study involved 10 male volleyball players, who were randomly divided into two groups: intervention (physiotherapy with unstable platforms) and control (no physiotherapy applied). Flamingo test and modified star excursion ba - lance test were used before and after intervention. Duration of intervention – 4 weeks. Results . After 4 weeks of physiotherapy with unstable platforms static balance increased in intervention group subjects by 66.7% (p < 0,05); however, there were no changes in the control group. Post intervention examination showed statisti - cally significant increase in Y balance test results in different directions, while the control group did not show any change. Conclusions . After a physiotherapy program with unstable platforms, static balance as well as dynamic balance increased. A 4-week physiotherapy program with unstable platforms significantly decreased the risk of ankle injuries in male volleyball players
