O’Gorman, SJ was the first Vice-Provincial of the New England Region of the Maryland-New York Province of the Society of Jesus from 1921-1924. The Jesuit communities located in the six states of the United States know as New England were for many years part of the Maryland-New York Province. In 1921, because of the increasing number of young men entering the Jesuits from the New England states, the Jesuit communities in New England were established as the Region of New England of the Province of Maryland-New York in the expectation that the New England Region would become an independent Province. The Vice-Provincial lived at Boston College and was responsible for the Region but answerable to the Provincial of the Maryland-New York Province. This collection contains the administrative records of the New England Vice-Province from that period, 1921-1924. The collection is divided into 15 series: Series 1, Province Governance; Series 2, Finances; Series 3, Personnel; Series 4, Formation; Series 5, Pastoral and Spiritual Apostolates and Matters; Series 6, Education Apostolate and Academic Training of Jesuits; Series 7, Social Apostolate; Series 8, House/Community/Parish; Series 9, Missions and International Apostolates; Series 10, Curia, Rome; Series 11, General, Procurators’, and Provincial Congregations; Series 12, Jesuit Jurisdictions and Organizations: American Assistancy; Series 13, Jesuit Jurisdictions and Organizations: International; Series 14, Non-Jesuit Catholic Church Jurisdictions and Organizations; Series 15, Other Organizations, Individuals, and Issues. Understanding, respecting and including people with mental health conditions as part of the CLTS process

Mental health conditions affect large numbers of people globally, in a variety of ways and people often face extreme stigma and marginalization as a result. Appropriately implemented, Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) can contribute to physical, mental and social health by helping to build pride and contribute to the inclusion and empowerment of people with mental health conditions; but there are also risks that people with mental health conditions may be mistreated, or have their rights abused, if they have difficulty in changing their sanitation and hygiene behaviour. This paper calls for all those engaged in sanitation programmes to: increase their learning on this issue; increase their awareness of the specific vulnerabilities of this group in sanitation programmes; build the capacity of stakeholders on acceptable and unacceptable practices in working with people with mental health conditions; and develop a Code of Conduct

Patterns of extrapulmonary metastases in sarcoma surveillance

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) most commonly metastasize to the lungs. Current surveillance guidelines variably recommend abdominal and pelvic imaging, but there is little evidence to support this. We sought to determine the proportion of initial pulmonary versus extrapulmonary metastases, the time to development of each, and factors to identify patients that would benefit from abdominopelvic surveillance. We retrospectively reviewed 382 patients who underwent surgical treatment for STS at a single institution. Of the 33% (126/382) of patients who developed metastases, 72% (90/126) were pulmonary, 22% (28/126) were extrapulmonary, and 6% (8/126) developed both simultaneously. Late 20th Century Indian Ocean Heat Content Gain Masked by Wind Forcing

Rapid increases in upper 700‐m Indian Ocean heat content (IOHC) since the 2000s have focused attention on its role during the recent global surface warming hiatus. Here, we use ocean model simulations to assess distinct multidecadal IOHC variations since the 1960s and explore the relative contributions from wind stress and buoyancy forcing regionally and with depth. Multidecadal wind forcing counteracted IOHC increases due to buoyancy forcing from the 1960s to the 1990s. Wind and buoyancy forcing contribute positively since the mid‐2000s, accounting for the drastic IOHC change. Distinct timing and structure of upper ocean temperature changes in the eastern and western Indian Ocean are linked to the pathway how multidecadal wind forcing associated with the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation is transmitted and affects IOHC through local and remote winds. Progressive shoaling of the equatorial thermocline—of importance for low‐frequency variations in Indian Ocean Dipole occurrence—appears to be dominated by multidecadal variations in wind forcing

Case-Control study of Firefighters with documented positive tuberculin skin test results using Quantiferon-TB testing in comparison with Firefighters with negative tuberculin skin test results

BACKGROUND: Phoenix Firefighters have had abnormally high rates of tuberculin skin test (TBST) results on medical surveillance. The objectives of this study were to evaluate our firefighters using QuantiFERON-TB (QFT), comparing the results to their TBST results. METHODS: Using QFT results obtained during the study, we compared previously positive TBST responders (Cases) to negative responders (Controls). We also compared both groups for QFT results for Mycobacterium avium (MA) exposure. RESULTS: QFT effectively monitored our working population. 12.9% of the 148 cases, and 3.2% of the 220 controls had a positive QFT result. Another 14.8% of cases and 4.5% of controls had conditionally positive QFT results. There was an unusually high rate of MA response on QFT testing in both groups. CONCLUSION: Phoenix Firefighters have a higher than expected TBST and QFT results, which cannot be explained by the increased MA rate. The decreased level of QFT positivity in comparison to TBST results may indicate a considerable false positive TBST rate. The QFT offers many advantages as a surveillance method over TBST in exposed worker populations
