    Insight into thin film SURMOFs

    The development of MOF-based technologies has been a focus point of research over the last 20 years resulting in ca. 70,000 published structures studied for a wide range of applications including gas storage and separation, drug delivery, chemical sensing, among others. Their research continues to be fueled by the continuous improvement of their thermal and mechanical features powering a bright future ahead. The synthesis of these materials has been one of the most investigated areas. When referring to the formation of homogeneous MOF thin films, the liquid phase epitaxial (LPE) layer-by-layer (LBL) formation has proven the acquisition of highly crystalline and oriented surface-mounted metal-organic frameworks (SURMOFs) suitable for integration as functional materials in multiple devices. In previous studies, ZIF-8 SURMOF synthesis via dipping at room temperature was systematically studied for alkane/alkene gas separation. Permeances and separation factors obtained agreed with other published synthesis techniques, but a great window of opportunity towards commercial feasibility still exists. Currently, this systematic approach is now being complemented with the incorporation of nanoparticles (e.g., Au, Pt) in various SURMOF systems to determine their potential in the field of catalysis of gaseous systems. Additionally, a comprehensive understanding of the properties and transport mechanisms of these SURMOF films is required in order to further enhance their performance. In previous works, the Maxwell-Stefan surface diffusion model was employed to gather a general understanding of the ZIF-8 SURMOF and other porous systems. To deepen our theoretical knowledge of these systems, various SURMOF films are being further characterized, including the acquisition of proper adsorption data at higher temperatures and pressures, surface diffusivities, and the consideration of micro-defects; this data is of high importance for further simulation studies. By doing so, the successful design, development, and application of novel SURMOF materials might be facilitated

    Thin film MOFs (SURMOFs) for application in gas separation

    In this work, the deposition of ZIF-8 surface-anchored metal-organic framework (SURMOF) films was systematically studied. A proper characterization and optimization of the synthesized films was performed and their separation performance was determined. Furthermore, a general description of the system was achieved using the Maxwell-Stefan surface diffusion model

    International Competitiveness in Services in Some European Countries: Basic Facts and a Preliminary Attempt of Interpretation.

    In spite of the increasing economic and social importance of services, the analysis of their international competitiveness is still in its very preliminary stages. The lack of adequate statistical information and theoretical background explains that backwardness. The aim of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of competitiveness in services activities of European countries. To carry out this task the investigation is divides into two parts: the first consists of the classification of the competitive position of the economies along 1990-2001 according to the competitiveness matrix developed by the UNO and the World Bank. Secondly, a first attempt of interpretation is made by exploring the factors which can explain the different behaviour of the countries, giving an especial importance to elements related to knowledge incorporation. In both cases, three sub-sectors are considered: transport and communication, travel and other business services. Finally, a number of recommendations as well as future research topics are included in the conclusions.A pesar de la creciente importancia económica y social de los servicios, el análisis de su competitividad internacional está todavía en sus fases preliminares, como consecuencia de las dificultades de información estadística existentes, así como por el escaso desarrollo de una teoría convincente. El propósito de este estudio es contribuir a un mejor conocimiento de la competitividad de los países europeos en los servicios. Para llevar a cabo esta tarea la investigación se divide en dos pare complementarias: la primera consiste en una clasificación de la posición competitiva de los países siguiendo la matrices de competitividad desarrolladas por la ONU y el Banco Mundial, la segunda incluye una primer intento de interpretación de aquellas posiciones y su evolución en el tiempo, dando especial importancia a factores relacionados con el conocimiento. En ambas fases el estudio se hace para tres sectores ampliamente representativos: transporte y comunicaciones, viajes y otros servicios a empresas.     Manejo nutricional do paciente com úlcera por pressão: uma revisão da literatura

    Chronic wounds occur frequently in adult hospitalized patients and institutionalized seniors. Their occurrence has a close relationship with nutritional status. The objective of this narrative review is to analyze the relationship between nutrition and the incidence of pressure ulcers, as well as to study the nutritional strategies recommended in scientific literature, focusing on the contribution of energy, proteins, amino acids and other micronutrients. Nutrition is an influential factor in wound healing. However, additional studies are needed to establish the adequate intake of certain nutrients, and the impact these have on the progression of this condition.Las heridas crónicas se presentan con frecuencia en adultos hospitalizados y personas de la tercera edad institucionalizadas. Su desarrollo tiene una relación importante con el estado nutricional. El objetivo de esta revisión narrativa es analizar la relación entre la nutrición y la incidencia de úlceras por presión, además de estudiar las estrategias de abordaje nutricional sugeridas por la evidencia científica, haciendo énfasis en el aporte de energía, proteínas, aminoácidos y otros micronutrientes. La nutrición es un factor influyente en la cicatrización de heridas; sin embargo, se necesitan más estudios para establecer los aportes adecuados de ciertos nutrientes y el impacto que tendrán en la evolución de esta condición.As feridas crônicas ocorrem com frequência em adultos hospitalizados e idosos institucionalizados. O seu desenvolvimento, tem importante relação com o estado nutricional. O objetivo desta revisão narrativa é analisar a relação entre a nutrição e a incidência de úlceras por pressão, além de estudar as estratégias de abordagem nutricional sugeridas pela evidência científica, enfatizando o contributo do fornecimento de energia, proteínas, aminoácidos e outros micronutrientes. En este texto se propone la aplicación de la pedagogía diferenciada para la educación superior. Esta individualización del currículo centrado en el aprendizaje de los alumnos implica realizar ajustes en el ámbito pedagógico, orientado este al reconocimiento de las características individuales, el cual va más allá del respeto por las personas, porque pretende ser copartícipe de la igualdad y atender las diferencias a través de propiciar situaciones de aprendizaje equitativas a los alumnos

    En este trabajo revisaremos las posibles contribuciones de la teoría de los estilos de pensamiento en dos niveles educativos, el posgrado, particularmente en la formación de investigadores, y en el pregrado. En el primero se pretende visualizar los escenarios que a futuro pueden desarrollarse en este nivel para obtener evidencias sobre estilos de pensamiento que desarrollan los estudiantes. Observados como recursos humanos con mayor nivel formativo de más altos y que se insertan, de alguna manera, en puestos de trabajo de dirección y/o investigación. El segundo, se revisan los estilos de pensamiento como veta de estudio para incorporarse en la formación universitaria con enfoque en competencias empleada en el caso del método de proyectos
