Sculpting Windows onto AuAg Hollow Cubic Nanocrystals

Using surfactants in the galvanic replacement reaction (GRR) offers a versatile approach to modulating hollow metal nanocrystal (NC) morphology and composition. Among the various surfactants available, quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants are commonly utilised. However, understanding how they precisely influence morphological features, such as the size and void distribution, is still limited. In this study, we aim to uncover how adding different surfactants-CTAB, CTAC, CTApTS, and PVP-can fine-tune the morphological characteristics of AuAg hollow NCs synthesised via GRR at room temperature. Our findings reveal that the halide counterion in the surfactant significantly controls void formation within the hollow structure. When halogenated surfactants, such as CTAB or CTAC, are employed, multichambered opened nanoboxes are formed. In contrast, with non-halogenated CTApTS, single-walled closed nanoboxes with irregularly thick walls form. Furthermore, when PVP, a polymer surfactant, is utilised, changes in concentration lead to the production of well-defined single-walled closed nanoboxes. Sobre las alternativas robustas contextuales

In his book El libre albedrío: un estudio filosófico Carlos Moya presents an argument against Frankfurt-Style cases according to which what makes an alternative robust and exempting is a matter of the context in which the agent finds himself; thus, alternatives that don?t seem to be robust can become robust and exempting in certain special circumstances, and Frankfurt scenarios present just such circumstances. In this paper I offer three objections to Moya?s brilliant argument. First, I defend that it is not clear that the alternative Moya finds in such cases is doing the work of grounding, at least partially, the attribution of blame to the agent. Secondly, I examine a reply Moya gives to a critique made by Pereboom according to which Moya?s argument presupposes the principle of alternative possibilities and thus begs the question against the compatibilist. I defend that Moya?s response is insufficient to elude Pereboom critique. En 1969 Harry Frankfurt publica su seminal artículo “Alternate Possibilities and Moral Responsibility”. Allí ataca la necesidad del principio de posibilidades alternativas (PPA) para la adscripción de responsabilidad moral a los agentes cuando estos realizan una acción. Desde entonces, muchos han sido los intentos de defender el PPA y de mostrar su necesidad para la adscripción de la responsabilidad moral. En este ensayo se examina uno de esos intentos: el que se basa en la causalidad-agencial propuesta por Thomas Reid (1710-1796), y que cuenta con William Rowe como uno de sus defensores dentro de la discusión contemporánea. Esto, con el objetivo de mostrar que, si bien esta defensa podría permitir la aparición de lo que se conoce como un “parpadeo” de libertad, ello no es suficiente para sustentar la atribución de responsabilidad moral

On Contextual Alternatives

One of the main challenges faced by Frankfurt-style Cases has been elaborated by Carlos Moya. According to this argument, seemingly insignificant alternatives can become significant and exempting due to the context in which agents find themselves. Given that Frankfurt-style Cases involve extreme situations, seemingly insignificant alternatives become robust, rendering Frankfurt Cases ineffective against the Principle of Alternative Possibilities. This paper provides an overview of the contextual alternatives and Frankfurt Cases debate, presents Moya’s strategy, and ultimately advances an argument to cast doubt on the effectiveness of Moya’s attack on Frankfurt Cases
