The proceeding at: European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC 2015), took place in June 29/July 2, 2015, in Paris, France. In a multicast video streaming service the same multimedia content is sent to a mass audience using only one multicast stream. In multicast video streaming over a cellular network, due to the nature of the multicast communication, from a source to multiple recipients, and due to the characteristics of the radio channel, different for each receiver, transmission errors are addressed at the application level by using Forward Error Correction (FEC) techniques. However, in order to protect the communication over the radio channel, FEC techniques are also applied at the physical layer. Another important technique to improve the communication of the radio channel is the use of a single-frequency network. This paper analyzes the performance of a video streaming service over a cellular network taking into account the combined impact of different factors that affect the transmission, both the physical deployment of the service and the two levels of FEC.This work was supported in part by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation (IN-NPACTO subprogram), LTExtreme project (IPT-2012-0525-430000).Publicad

This procceding of: 10th International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking and Communications (WiMob). Took place 2014, October 08-10, in Lanarca (Chipre). The event Web site of http://conferences.computer.org/wimob2014/ .In a multicast video streaming service over a cellular network, the same content is sent to a mass audience using a common channel. However, users belonging to the same multicast channel perceive different characteristics of the radio channel. Moreover, in wireless environments, the radio interface introduces an important level of interference and noise, resulting in a high rate of transmission errors. Therefore, a protection of the information is needed at each receiver using Forward Error Correction (FEC) schemes, which allow the recovery of the lost packets sending redundancy together with the payload. FEC solutions can be used in combination with other techniques to overcome the existing limitations of the mobile network, in particular, the use of a single-frequency network to prevent the effect of destructive signal interference. This paper analyzes the performance of a video streaming service comparing different FEC schemes, Raptor and RaptorQ codes, where some system parameters can be tuned in a single-frecuency network. This work was supported in part by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation (INNPACTO subprogram), LTExtreme project (IPT-2012-0525-430000).Publicad

Aim: It has been suggested that there is an inverse association between breastfeeding and the risk of childhood cancer. We investigated the association between full breastfeeding and paediatric cancer (PC) in a case control study in Spain. Methods: Maternal reports of full breastfeeding, collected through personal interviews using the Paediatric Environmental History, were compared among 187 children 6 months of age or older who had PC and 187 age-matched control siblings. Results: The mean duration of full breastfeeding for cases were 8.43 and 11.25 weeks for controls. Cases had been significantly more often bottle-fed than controls (odds ratio (OR) 1.8; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.1-2.8). Cases were significantly less breastfed for at least 2 months (OR 0.5; 95% CI 0.3-0.8), for at least 4 months (OR 0.5; 95% CI 0.3-0.8), and for 24 weeks or more (OR 0.5; 95% CI 0.2-0.9). Conclusions: Breastfeeding was inversely associated with PC, the protection increasing with the duration of full breastfeeding. Additional research on possible mechanisms of this association may be warranted. Meanwhile, breastfeeding should be encouraged among mothers

Law 9/2016 of 27 December, regulating Social Services in Andalucía, has created a new status quo regarding social protection in the autonomous community. The article studies it in two connected stages, in order to determine whether the regulation and management of Community Social Services in the province of Almería, of economic contributions to cover basic food and housing needs, respect the spirit of the recently approved Law. The first stage presents the design of a system to analyze the contributions, and the second, applies that system to the contributions established beforehand.

Seamless Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting Using Adaptive Error Recovery

    No full text
Multimedia services over mobile networks present several challenges, such as ensuring a reliable delivery of multimedia content, avoiding undesired service disruptions, or reducing service latency. HTTP adaptive streaming addresses these problems for multimedia unicast services, but it is not efficient from the point of view of radio resource consumption. In Long-Term Evolution (LTE) networks, multimedia broadcast services are provided over a common radio channel using a combination of forward error correction and unicast error recovery techniques at the application level. This paper discusses how to avoid service disruptions and reduce service latency for LTE multimedia broadcast services by adding dynamic adaptation capabilities to the unicast error recovery process. The proposed solution provides a seamless mobile multimedia broadcasting without compromising the quality of the service perceived by the users

Extending SWRL to Enhance Mathematical Support

    No full text
Abstract. This paper presents an extension to the Semantic Web Rule Language and a methodology to enable advanced mathematical support in SWRL rules. This solution separates mathematical and problem semantics allowing the inclusion of integration, differentiation and other operations not built-in to SWRL. Using this approach, it is possible to create rules to cope with complex scenarios that include mathematical relationships and formulas that exceed the SWRL capabilities.

The social services of Spain after the neoliberal period: longitudinal analysis from the perspective of social work (2012–2018)

The article presents a longitudinal analysis of the Social Services in Spain during the period characterised by neoliberal policies (2012–2018), as well as the situation and reactions of the professional social workers. The quantitative results of three surveys promoted by the General Council of Social Work from Spain on data from 2012, 2013 and 2018 were compared. The sample allows extrapolating the results to all the social workers in Spain. There is a loss of effectiveness and a worsening of the quality of care of the social services. However, social workers do not attribute the deterioration of the system to the increased demand, but to the cuts, privatisation and outsourcing of resources. The professional discourse is critical: it departs from the narrative of punitive neoliberalism and denounces the violation of citizens’ rights. Professional practice reveals the ethical–political commitment in the system and the public militancy of social workers in Spain.

    No full text
