A review of the literature on the benefits of the visual and performing arts for elementary school children

This capstone investigates the importance of the visual and performing arts for children who are at the elementary school age. Due to the fact that the No Child Left Behind Act does not effectively recognize the arts as a core academic subject, many students are missing out on all that the arts have to offer. This capstone explores the extensive amount of lifelong benefits that the arts provide and the permanent place that they have in all schools curriculum. Based on numerous findings and studies from researchers in the field of art and education, the benefits that students gain are rich, meaningful and are sustained in and out of the classroom. Please note that the visual and performing arts are sometimes referred to simply as the arts throughout this paper. Please also note that the visual and performing arts include activities such as: visually creating a piece of art not limited to a drawing, painting or sculpture, creating a plays, participating in structured and unstructured play where different roles are taken on by students, singing, dancing, playing insturments, and other activties where students are participating in activties that are in the subject area of art

Rewarding smallholders for their environmental services: Lessons learned from Midwestern Leyte

A study was conducted to determine smallholders’ perspectives on the various forest environmental services, the types of rewards expected to enhance the revenue of small-scale farmers, and views on who should be the providers of rewards and preferred rewarding or payment mechanisms. The sites of the study were Barangay Gabas and Barangay Kilim in Baybay, Leyte, Philippines, immediately below the 2236 ha Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) project where all the respondents are residing. Respondents’ perspectives on forest environmental services, rewards and rewarding mechanisms or approaches were assessed through individual interviews and focus group discussions. Provision of improved water quality was considered the most important forest ecosystem service while cash payments were the most frequently mentioned type of reward. One of the rewarding mechanisms that emerged was the drafting of a resolution to be forwarded to the municipal or local government unit for financial support

Pendampingan Pelatihan AutoCAD pada Kaur Perencanaan Desa di Kecamatan Tambak

Kaur Perencanaan Desa se-Kecamatan Tambak banyak yang belum menguasai teknologi informasi terutama AutoCAD (Computer Aided Design) untuk menggambar 3D terkait pekerjaan mereka sehingga mempengaruhi kinerja dalam menyelesaikan pekerjaan. Dalam rangka mendukung upaya pemerintah guna meningkatkan kinerja Kaur Perencanaan Desa, maka tim pelaksana mengadakan pengabdian pada Kecamatan Tambak berupa pendampingan pelatihan AutoCAD yang bertujuan agar Kaur Perencanaan Desa dapat menggunakan AutoCAD sehingga dapat diterapkan dalam pekerjaan mereka. Metode yang digunakan Tim pengabdian yakni 1) Melakukan koordinasi dan sosialisasi di lokasi mitra; 2) Tim pelaksana menyusun bahan pendampingan di Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo; 3) Tim pelaksana melaksanakan pendampingan di beberapa Balai Desa di Kecamatan Tambak; 4) Kegiatan diadakan selama 2 jam setiap sesi, dan dilaksanakan di beberapa Balai Desa yang ada di Kecamatan Tambak; 5) Mengadakan pelatihan AutoCAD bagi Kaur Perencanaan Desa dengan metode praktik langsung dan tanya jawab; 6) Pemantauan dan evaluasi pendampingan pelatihan. Hasil yang diperoleh dari terlaksananya pengabdian ini yakni 1) Antusiasme yang tinggi dari para peserta yakni Kaur Perencanaan Desa dalam mengikuti pelatihan AutoCAD untuk menggambar produk 3 dimensi; 2) Meningkatnya ketrampilan para Kaur Perencanaan Desa dengan menggambar AutoCAD 3 dimensi sehingga dapat pula meningkatkan kinerja pekerjaan mereka

ANALISIS DAN PERANCANGAN SISTEM INFORMASI PENGAJUAN KLAIM BERBASIS WEB PADA PT ASURANSI RAMAYANA CABANG PALEMBANG

Tujuan penulisan skripsi ini adalah untuk mempermudah proses sistem pengajuan klaim pada PT Asuransi Ramayana Cabang Palembang. Adapun permasalahan pada PT Asuransi Ramayana Cabang Palembang adalah pihak kantor menginginkan adanya media yang dapat mempermudah mereka dalam proses pengajuan klaim dari nasabah, yang selama ini dinilai masih konvensional. Media web ini nantinya diharapkan mampu untuk menyampaikan informasi yang lebih cepat dan akurat. Dalam permasalahan ini kami menggunakan metode FAST dan merancang sebuah aplikasi pengembangan untuk media belajar berbasis CRM. Aplikasi web ini diharapakan dapat diterapkan dan implementasikan guna membantu PT Asuransi Ramayana Cabang Palembang dalam mempermudah proses pengajuan klaim

Interviews With College Students: Evaluating Computer Programming Environments For Introductory Courses

Different methods, strategies, or tools have been proposed for teaching Object Oriented Programming (OOP). However, it is still difficult to introduce OOP to novice learners. The problem may be not only adopting a method or language, but also use of an appropriate integrated development environment (IDE). Therefore, the focus should be on the needs of learners when selecting an IDE and the evaluations for instructional purposes may allow making objective decisions for an introductory course design. There are different methods or frameworks for evaluating IDEs and the majority focuses on the experts’ needs. Unfortunately, studies done on instructional appropriateness of IDEs are insufficient. In this study, an evaluation framework is initially proposed, then the candidate IDEs are evaluated, and finally, the perceptions of college students are explored by conducting semi-structured interviews. The data are analyzed by the Verbal Analysis technique, and the results are discussed in view of the evaluation criteria.
