Exploding SNe with jets: time-scales

We perform hydrodynamical simulations of core collapse supernovae (CCSNe) with a cylindrically-symmetrical numerical code (FLASH) to study the inflation of bubbles and the initiation of the explosion within the frame of the jittering-jets model. We study the typical time- scale of the model and compare it to the typical time-scale of the delayed neutrino mechanism. Our analysis shows that the explosion energy of the delayed neutrino mechanism is an order of magnitude less than the required 10^51 erg.Comment: To appear in Death of Massive Stars: Supernovae and Gamma-Ray Bursts, Proceedings IAU Symposium No. 279, 2012, eds. САМОПРЕЗЕНТАЦІЯ ДЕМОНСТРАТИВНОЇ МОВНОЇ ОСОБИСТОСТІ У ДРАМАТИЧНІЙ ПОЕМІ ЛЕСІ УКРАЇНКИ «ОДЕРЖИМА» (Self-presentation of the demonstrative language person in dramatic poem «ОДЕРЖИМА» written by Lesia Ukrainka)

У статті розглянуто основні аспекти дослідження психологічної акцентуації, схарактеризовано ознаки демонстративної особистості, проаналізовано різнорівневі мовні засоби вияву істероїдної акцентуації у драматичній поемі Лесі Українки «Одержима»; простежено взаємозв’язок між персонажним дискурсом та автором твору. (In the given article the main aspects of research of psychological accentuation are considered, the peculiarities of demonstrative personality are characterized, multilevel linguistic means of expression of hysteroid accentuation in the dramatic poem by Lesya Ukrainka «Obsessed» are analysed ; the relationship between the discourse of character and the author of the work is observed.

У статті досліджено мовні засоби репрезентації депресивної акцентуації характеру на матеріалі повісті О. Кобилянської «Земля». Встановлено кореляційні зв’язки між лінгвістичними та психологічними параметрами твор- чої особистості; окреслено перспективи розвитку мовного психоаналізу. (This article studies the representation linguistic means of depressive accentuation as exemplified in O. Kobylianska’s story «Zemlia» («Land»). The correlation relationships between linguistic and psychological parameters of creative personality have been established; the prospects of language psychoanalysis development have been determined.

Differentiation of the Material Composition of Lviv Region Luvic Greyzemic Chernozems (Ukraine)

The soil formation within the Wet Atlantic Chernozem facies of the West-Ukrainian region leads to the vertical redistribution of Chernozem soil substance and formation of the differentiated mineral soil profile to varying degrees by carbonates, clay, and chemic-mineralogical composition. Luvic Greyzemic Chernozems (Siltic, Aric, Pachic) is characterized by the sharp differentiated profile by clay. The degree of vertical differentiation of clay profile is directly proportional to the intensity of the processes of leaching and gleyzation. In mineral profiles of Luvic Greyzemic Chernozems the vertical redistribution of clay material is mainly due to fraction smaller than 0.02 μm. The opposite character of profile distribution of mica-smectite and illite phases of clay minerals was discovered. Against the unbalanced losses of a part of clay plasma in the humus horizon, the process of relative illitization was detected due to smectite eluviation and accumulation of illite, kaolinite and finely dispersed quartz.

Actual vs. Perceived Body Composition and How Body Image Impacts College Students

It has been estimated that up to two thirds of young women and one third of young men experience significant dissatisfaction with their body size, shape, condition, or appearance. Body image dissatisfaction, weight concerns, eating problems, and physical attractiveness have become especially significant issues on college campuses due to the stresses accompanied with this major transition in a young person’s life. The purpose of this IRB approved quantitative study was to investigate perceived body composition compared to actual composition in college students. Participants were asked to complete three surveys that took a total of 20 minutes or less. These surveys included demographic data, general health behaviors, social physique and anxiety data correlated to body image, and perceived BMI. After completion of the surveys, the participants’ actual body composition was collected using the BodPod. Descriptive and statistical analysis of the data will be performed using SPSS to determine correlations and significance between body fat percentage and body image. A total of 50 of the projected 100 participants have completed the study. Preliminary results show that 66% of participants are overestimating their body fat percentage by an average of 13% and 23% have underestimated their percentage by an average of 6%. Results from this study will help direct programming initiatives on students’ body image and the development of healthy behaviors as they navigate the college experience
