Tourists’ satisfaction and revisiting : an investigation of causality effects

    Get PDF
In this paper, a switching regime model with known sample separation is applied to Greek data, to investigate causality linkages between tourists' satisfaction and their willingness for revisiting. The empirical evidence shows the existence of these causality effects. Moreover, it shows that the willingness for revisiting crucially depends on many qualitative aspects of tourist services and accommodation.peer-reviewe

An Orbitrap/Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer for Photofragment Ion Imaging and High-Resolution Mass Analysis of Native Macromolecular Assemblies

    Get PDF
We discuss the design, development, and evaluation of an Orbitrap/time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry (MS)-based instrument with integrated UV photodissociation (UVPD) and time/mass-to-charge ratio ( m/ z)-resolved imaging for the comprehensive study of the higher-order molecular structure of macromolecular assemblies (MMAs). A bespoke TOF analyzer has been coupled to the higher-energy collisional dissociation cell of an ultrahigh mass range hybrid quadrupole-Orbitrap MS. A 193 nm excimer laser was employed to photofragment MMA ions. A combination of microchannel plates (MCPs)-Timepix (TPX) quad and MCPs-phosphor screen-TPX3CAM assemblies have been used as axial and orthogonal imaging detectors, respectively. The instrument can operate in four different modes, where the UVPD-generated fragment ions from the native MMA ions can be measured with high-mass resolution or imaged in a mass-resolved manner to reveal the relative positions of the UVPD fragments postdissociation. This information is intended to be utilized for retrieving higher-order molecular structural details that include the conformation, subunit stoichiometry, and molecular interactions as well as to understand the dissociation dynamics of the MMAs in the gas phase

The paper examines empirically the assumption of asymmetric information with the use of a simple macroeconomic model. The results, based on Greek data, support the rational expectations models of asymmetric information and therefore the proposition of policy ineffectiveness

Recent Research Progress in Hybrid Photovoltaic–Regenerative Hydrogen Fuel Cell Microgrid Systems

    No full text
Hybrid photovoltaic–regenerative hydrogen fuel cell (PV-RHFC) microgrid systems are considered to have a high future potential in the effort to increase the renewable energy share in the form of solar PV technology with hydrogen generation, storage, and reutilization. The current study provides a comprehensive review of the recent research progress of hybrid PV-RHFC microgrid systems to extract conclusions on their characteristics and future prospects. The different components that can be integrated (PV modules, electrolyzer and fuel cell stacks, energy storage units, power electronics, and controllers) are analyzed in terms of available technology options. The main modeling and optimization methods, and control strategies are discussed. Additionally, various application options are provided, which differentiate in terms of scale, purpose, and further integration with other power generating and energy storage technologies. Finally, critical analysis and discussion of hybrid PV-RHFC microgrid systems were conducted based on their current status. Overall, the commercialization of hybrid PV-RHFC microgrid systems requires a significant drop in the RHFC subsystem capital cost. In addition, it will be necessary to produce complete hybrid PV-RHFC microgrid systems with integrated energy management control capabilities to avoid operational issues and ensure flexibility and reliability of the energy flow in relation to supply, storage, and demand

Could the Majority of the Greek and Cypriot Population Be Vitamin D Deficient?

OBJECTIVE: Hypovitaminosis D is prevalent in epidemic proportions in many developed countries. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of adequate 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels in two Mediterranean countries, Greece and Cyprus. METHODS: Data such as 25(OH)D, the month of blood sample collection, and demographic information were blindly collected from 8780 Greek and 2594 Cypriot individuals over 5 years. Comorbidities were also recorded for 839 Greek subjects. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to examine the relationship between these variables and 25(OH)D levels. RESULTS: In the samples studied, 72.7% of the Greek and 69.3% of the Cypriot population sample had inadequate levels of 25(OH)D. The mean level for the Greek subjects was 25.1 ng/mL and for Cypriots 25.8 ng/mL. For both samples, only month and gender were significantly associated with 25(OH)D levels, and the highest mean levels were recorded in September. For the recorded diseases, the lowest levels were recorded in sickle cell anaemia 13.6 ± 10.2 ng/mL, autoimmune diseases 13.0 ± 8.4 ng/mL, and cancer 22.6 ± 9.5 ng/mL. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency is paradoxically high in both Mediterranean countries

Prevalence of Primary Aldosteronism Across the Stages of Hypertension Based on a New Combined Overnight Test

Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common endocrine cause of arterial hypertension. Despite the increasing incidence of hypertension worldwide, the true prevalence of PA in hypertension was only recently recognized. The objective of the work was to estimate the prevalence of PA in patients at different stages of hypertension based on a newly developed screening-diagnostic overnight test. This is a prospective study with hypertensive patients (n=265) at stage I (n=100), II (n=88), and III (n=77) of hypertension. A group of 103 patients with essential hypertension without PA was used as controls. PA diagnosis was based on a combined screening-diagnostic overnight test, the Dexamethasone-Captopril-Valsartan Test (DCVT) that evaluates aldosterone secretion after pharmaceutical blockade of angiotensin-II and adrenocorticotropic hormone. DCVT was performed in all participants independently of the basal aldosterone to renin ratio (ARR). The calculated upper normal limits for post-DCVT aldosterone levels [3 ng/dl (85 pmol/l)] and post-DCVT ARR [0.32 ng/dl/mu U/ml (9 pmol/IU)] from controls, were applied together to establish PA diagnosis. Using these criteria PA was confirmed in 80 of 265 (30%) hypertensives. The prevalence of PA was: 21% (21/100) in stage I, 33% (29/88) in stage II, and 39% (30/77) in stage III. Serum K (+) levels were negatively correlated and urinary K (+) was positively correlated in PA patients with post-DCVT ARR (r=-0.349, p <0.01, and r=0.27, p <0.05 respectively). In conclusion, DCVT revealed that PA is a highly prevalent cause of hypertension. DCVT could be employed as a diagnostic tool in all subjects with arterial hypertension of unknown cause
