The fabrication and characterization of planar polymeric waveguides produced on silicon substrate foroptical devices is reported. The cladding was made of a fluorinated polymer by CHF3plasma polymeriza-tion and the core was a PMMA film prepared by spin coating. The polymeric waveguides with differentwidths (from 10 to 100 μm) were patterned by UV photolithography. The plasma fluorinated opticalfilms were characterized by ellipsometry, metricon prism coupler, interferometer and FTIR-ATR. Thewaveguide optical characterization was done by coupling a laser beam, fiber-to-fiber coupling method, using a multimode optical fiber.12617476Large, M., Van Eljkelenborg, M.A., Lwin, R., Barton, G., Poladian, L., Tanner, R., Xue, S., An overview of mPOF fabrication (2006) WorkPOF, Rio de Janeiro and Campinas, pp. 21-25Harsányi, G., (1995) Polymer Films in Sensor Applications: Technology, Materials,Devices and Their Characteristics, , Technomic Publishing Company, Pennsyl-vaniaChen, C., Sun, X., Zhang, D., Shan, Z., Shin, S., Zhang, D., Dye-doped polymeric pla-nar waveguide devices based on a thermal UV-bleaching technique (2009) Opt. ABSTRACT Actions to conserve rivers must be preceded by an environmental diagnosis, however, beyond the body of water, the adjacent atmosphere must also be characterized by ability of recognizing the human impacts and differentiate them of the natural variation of these ecosystems. This study aimed to develop a rapid assessment protocol (PAR), composed of seven parameters - vegetation, soil texture, part of the river, slope inclination slope gradient, soil depth in slope, stroke width of water course, use and land cover -, assigning them weights 0-4, in order to assess the influence of their categories in susceptibility to erosion of the river slope. The PAR was applied in 40 sampling unities (UA) in the watershed of Arroio Val de Buia in Silveira Martins, RS. From the final result of the PAR it was created erosion susceptibility classes, "stable", "susceptible" and "instable". The t test showed significant differences between the evaluated units and the Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (AHA) distinguished two classes of UA, according to the categories of susceptibility to erosion resulting from PAR. The basic parameters that determined the groupings were: soil, soil depth in slope, vegetation, the stretch of water course and, land use and land cover. We conclude that the PAR is presented as a good rapid assessment tool river, similar to the studied stream, being useful to the environmental planning considering the regional characteristics

The objective of this study was to evaluate different methods of drying of leaves for three different fruit (passion fruit, peach and avocado), with respect to the determination of dry matter and foliar nutrients. Samples were collected from recently expanded leaves of three crops orchard Farm education and research FCAV-UNESP, Jaboticabal campus, in January 2010, by collecting 12 samples for each culture with 25 leaves. The treatments consisted of two drying methods, greenhouse circulation of air regulated to a temperature of 70°C and FMO. We evaluated the mass of dry matter and foliar nutrients. The results suggest that the two drying methods tested did not interfere in the determination of dry matter and foliar nutrients to crops analyzed, except the calcium levels in peach

Data on preweanning gain (GNDa) of Pampiano-Braford animals raised in Rio Grande do sul were analyzed to verify the influence of individual (HI) and maternal (HM) heterosis in GNDa, and to quantify it. Data were adjusted for dam age (IV), julian birth date (DJN)and calf age at weaning,(IT). However, exploratory analysis have suggested that the adjustment factors for IV, DJN, and IT are not doing this adjustment correctly (P<0.01). Because of the structure and connectedness of the major data set, the analysis was done in two different ways. In the first phase, HI and HM were estimated simultaneously, in file 2, compose of 4186 animals, and the values obtained were 31.91 and 33.53kg, respectively. In the second phase, HI was estimated in a subset of file 2 (subset 1) compose of 1507 animals with maternal heterozigosis 0.0000; HM was estimated in subset 2 of file 2 with 2777 animals with individual heterozigozis 0.5000. The values found were 13.79 and 34.08kg, respectively. All the values found for heterosis on GNDa were significant (P <0.01), and the relation between heterosis and heterozigosis for this characteristic was linear (P< 0.01). It was show that the Hereford animals, in this study, had greater genetic additive values than crossbreeds, but this difference was not sufficient to supress the effects of heterosis on GNDa. In comparison with the values used in GenSys Method, the HI and HM values, obtained in this study produced a change in the ranking of calves at preweaning, but the number of animals chosen in common by the two methods did not differ much. The cows with 1/2 breed composition had the best performance on GNDa, while the calves with maximum heterosis (breed composition 1/2) were excelled by those 3/8, when HM was included in the performance, emphasizing the importance of HM on GNDa
