DOMINATED INDIVIDUALS TACTICS TO DISRUPT BEING OTHERED IN NEO-COLONIAL NOVELS OF BAUTISTA AND WA THIONGO
Dominated subjects or those Othered in many societies are among the most misrepresented class of people. Such misrepresentation has popularised their being imagined in literature and other fields of study as almost always despondent and meek individuals. In this context, this paper interrogates Western archetypal images on Others as passive recipients of domination. Applying De Certeaus concept of tactics, this paper investigated how tactics of dominated subjects become immediate yet temporary solution among Others to disturb the everyday practices of Othering. Lualhati Bautistas Gapo and Ngugi Wa Thiongos Matigari were scrutinised through discourse analysis and both revealed that everyday tactics are used by Othered characters to grapple with, respond to and, later on, overcome societys exclusionary practices. Set in the after colonial environs, the novels portray Othered characters as capable of resistance and agency despite their political, economic and/or cultural marginalisation. Such use of tactics as means of resistance are however temporary and, ultimately, cannot solve their being dominated. Nonetheless, the counter-discourse this frame of thought offers as well as how tactics provides space and how space simultaneously allows the production of tactics can provide us a more nuanced understanding of resistance and the lived experiences of Others
The complex hybrid origins of the root knot nematodes revealed through comparative genomics
Meloidogyne root knot nematodes (RKN) can infect most of the world's
agricultural crop species and are among the most important of all plant
pathogens. As yet however we have little understanding of their origins or the
genomic basis of their extreme polyphagy. The most damaging pathogens reproduce
by mitotic parthenogenesis and are suggested to originate by interspecific
hybridizations between unknown parental taxa. We sequenced the genome of the
diploid meiotic parthenogen Meloidogyne floridensis, and use a comparative
genomic approach to test the hypothesis that it was involved in the hybrid
origin of the tropical mitotic parthenogen M. incognita. Phylogenomic analysis
of gene families from M. floridensis, M. incognita and an outgroup species M.
hapla was used to trace the evolutionary history of these species' genomes,
demonstrating that M. floridensis was one of the parental species in the hybrid
origins of M. incognita. Analysis of the M. floridensis genome revealed many
gene loci present in divergent copies, as they are in M. incognita, indicating
that it too had a hybrid origin. The triploid M. incognita is shown to be a
complex double-hybrid between M. floridensis and a third, unidentified parent.
The agriculturally important RKN have very complex origins involving the mixing
of several parental genomes by hybridization and their extreme polyphagy and
agricultural success may be related to this hybridization, producing
transgressive variation on which natural selection acts. Studying RKN variation
via individual marker loci may fail due to the species' convoluted origins, and
multi-species population genomics is essential to understand the hybrid
diversity and adaptive variation of this important species complex. This
comparative genomic analysis provides a compelling example of the importance
and complexity of hybridization in generating animal species diversity more

Design, construction, and performance evaluation of evaporative cooler for sustainable refrigeration of agricultural produce
Abstract onlyDue to the high inclination to rot of agricultural produce, fruits and vegetables are stored at lower temperatures. Reducing the environmental temperature has multiple methods. However, acquiring storage with cool or controlled atmospheres is expensive. Evaporative cooling is a renowned system with means for efficiency and economical use in increasing relative humidity and reduction of temperature. In this study, basic concepts, principles, and methods of evaporative cooling are applied on the preservation of agricultural produce, such as fruits and vegetables. The device fabricated is made from locally available materials, namely, sand and water. Other materials are aluminum and stainless steel. There are two main devices, the pump and the blower. The system was successfully fabricated and tested, with the results obtained verified to be accurate, with little margin of error. Despite the system functioning according to its purpose, limitations are to be observed in order to maintain a fully functioning device.Includes bibliographical references (41-42)Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineerin

Talangkang Pag-Iisip: An Exposé of Its Positivity in the Lens of Students in a Selected University in Baguio City
Crab mentality is one of the common universal traits among many people. It is a behavior wherein a person feels jealous of the success, developments, achievements, and accomplishments of others. Some people who could not cope with their enviousness and jealousy may lead to committing actions that may deal negative impacts on the integrity, credibility, and social status of the person they are envious of, just to name a few. Although this may be universal and popular among many people, the difference lies in how this feeling is regulated and handled or managed by each individual. By seeing it as an admiration that will motivate them to become better individuals, certain people can turn this into something positive. The study aimed to expose the positive aspects and evaluate the source of crab mentality of fifteen (15) selected Special Education students in a selected University in Baguio City, Philippines. This sought to seek positive circumstances of crab mentality manifested by the students at home and in school. This is to change the perception of people that the crab mentality has only negative aspects as it also has good and positive attributes. Furthermore, this study will help professionals understand the positivist approach of crab mentality. This study employed pagtatanong-tanong, a Filipino psychology research method, which is an indigenous way of collecting or gathering data leading to a case study. The study conducted showed that the positive sides of the crab mentality being manifested at home and school leads to various factors

Influence of leadership behavior and leadership styles on employee motivation and satisfaction in hospital wards
Due to the lack of staff in healthcare facilities psychological strains can arise for nursing staff. Nursing staff often work beyond their limits, which leads to a decrease in motivation and satisfaction and can even lead to thoughts of resigning or leaving the nursing profession. The aim of this master's thesis is to examine current literature on leadership behaviour, different leadership styles and their influence on employee satisfaction and motivation. Furthermore, the experiences of nursing staff and managers in hospital wards on the topic of increasing motivation and satisfaction
through leadership behaviour and leadership styles will be collected. In order to answer the research questions, a systematic literature research was combined with a qualitative research approach using guided interviews.
Personal experiences and experiences of nursing staff were collected in order to obtain authentic results and well-founded answers on the topic. The collected data was analysed using Mayring's summarised analysis. The collected data shows that the supportive leadership styles, in particular the transformational leadership, have a strong positive influence on the motivation and satisfaction of employees in hospital wards. The laissez-faire and authoritarian leadership styles, have a negative effect. In addition, it is confirmed that leadership behavior, in particular the communication of managers, has a positive influence on employees in hospital wards. The master's thesis shows that supportive leadership styles, positive leadership behaviour, effective communication and regular conversations or the willingness to listen are important for a positive working environment and the well-being of nursing staff, which can also increase their motivation and satisfaction.Abweichender Titel laut Übersetzung der Verfasserin/des VerfassersMasterarbeit Wien, FH Campus Wien 202
Notes on the Lanzones muscle scale predator, Chilocorus nigrita
Chilocorus nigrita was observed and recorded in the Philippines as muscle scale predator. Its biology and predatory efficiency was observed under laboratory condition. The said predator was observed to be an efficient biological control agent for lanzones muscle scale which was reportedly a very serious insect pest of lanzones in Mindanao. Mass rearing technique for the Chilocorus nigrita was also developed under laboratory condition at Davao National Crop Research and Development Center of the Bureau of Plant Industry (DNCRDC-BPI). This predator is currently mass-reared and distributed to lanzones farmers with muscle scale infestations in different towns and provinces in the northern and eastern parts of Mindanao
Mass production technique for Chilocorus nigrita F., a biocontrol agent against scale insect
Chilocorus nigrita is found worldwide and known to be a predator of scale insect species like citrus scale in Africa and coconut scale Aspidiotus destructor in the Pacific Islands. C. Nigrita was first observed in Digos, Davao del Sur as a mango scale predator and recently evaluated and found as effective predator for Lanzones mussel scale insect at BPI-NDCRDC, and is now mass-reared for distribution as scale biological control agent. The coconut scale, Aspidiotus destructor, is preferably utilized as the prey for C. nigrita and it can be mass produced more sufficiently under laboratory conditions. The host material for the coconut scale (Aspidiotus destructor) is mature squash fruit. This is initially done by collecting coconut leaves infested with A. destructor, cutting the leaves into small pieces and placing on top of the squash fruit until fully covered with scales to serve as mother host material. A. destructor is introduced to other host materials by placing new clean squash fruits on top and on both sides of the mother host material and letting crawlers move or transfer to them. Enclose the host materials in plastic boxes or cages for C. nigrita introduction for feeding and multiplication (egg deposition and larval feeding up to adult stage)
