    Development of the Abnormal Tension Pattern Recognition Module for Twisted Yarn Based on Deep Learning Edge Computing

    This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence module for recognizing abnormal tension in textile weaving, The module can be used to address the time-consuming and inaccurate issues associated with traditional manual methods. Long short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural networks as the algorithm for identifying different types of abnormal tension are employed in this module. This study focuses on training and validating the model using five common patterns. Additionally, an approach involving the integration of plug-in modules and edge computing in deep learning is employed to achieve the research objectives without altering the original system architecture. Multiple experiments were conducted to search for the optimal model parameters. According to the experimental results, the average recognition rate for abnormal tension is 97.12%, with an average computation time of 46.2 milliseconds per sample. The results indicate that the recognition accuracy and computation time meet the practical performance requirements of the system

    Complementary Therapy with Traditional Chinese Medicine for Ischemic Stroke

    Stroke has remained the leading cause of morbidity or mortality worldwide over the past decade. Stroke survivors suffer various degrees of disability and also contribute to the large socioeconomic disease burden. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) serves as an important alternative or complementary therapy in many countries. This chapter aims to explore the utility of TCM for ischemic stroke, including a review of recent literature on the mechanisms of herbal medicine and acupuncture therapy on ischemic stroke, a summary of clinical trial results for the safety and efficacy of acupuncture, and finally a discussion of acupuncture as a preventive therapy for ischemic stroke in clinical practice. On the basis of these reports, more and more scientific evidences suggest that TCM use was safe for ischemic stroke at acute and subacute stages. Moreover, TCM has benefit for stroke recovery as well as it reduces the likelihood of hospital readmission for cardiovascular or subsequent stroke events

    An end-to-end bidirectional authentication system for pallet pooling management through blockchain internet of things (BIoT)

    Pallet pooling is regarded as a sustainable and cost-effective measure for the industry, but it is challenging to advocate due to weak data and pallet authentication. In order to establish trust between end-users and pallet pooling services, the authors propose an end-to-end, bidirectional authentication system for transmitted data and pallets based on blockchain and internet-of-things (IoT) technologies. In addition, secure data authentication fosters the pallet authenticity in the whole supply chain network, which is achieved by considering the tag, location, and object-specific features. To evaluate the object-specific features, the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) approach is adopted to match key-points and descriptors between two pallet images. According to the case study, it is found that the proposed system provides a low bandwidth blocking rate and a high probability of restoring complete data payloads. Consequently, positive influences on end-user satisfaction, quality of service, operational errors, and pallet traceability are achieved through the deployment of the proposed system

    Social globalization and design innovation

    While designs play a critical role in corporate innovation and business operations, the determinants of design innovation (i.e., new aesthetic or stylistic forms) are largely underexplored in the literature. Accumulating evidence suggests that openness to the exchange of ideas, the adoption of progressive policies, and the circulation of human capital play significant roles in driving regional innovative activities. In this study, we ask a variation of this question: Is there evidence that social globalization, i.e., “the spread of ideas, information, images and people” (Dreher et al., 2008, p. 43) – can drive the extent of national design innovation? We leverage a survey instrument reporting on globalization levels, the KOF Globalization Index, to measure national levels of social globalization. We find that national levels of social globalization predict design innovation, as measured by the number of annual design awards granted by the Industrie Forum (iF) over the period 1973-2015. To address the potential endogeneity in our analysis, we instrument for social globalization using a differences-in-differences approach and an instrumental variable approach. Our findings remain robust when we use U.S. design patents as an alternative measure for design innovation. We further show that personal contact could be the main underlying mechanism for social globalization to encourage design innovation.Othe

    Drain tube migration into the anastomotic site of an esophagojejunostomy for gastric small cell carcinoma: short report

    Intraluminal migration of a drain through an anastomotic site is a rare complication of gastric surgery. Case Presentation: We herein report the intraluminal migration of a drain placed after a lower esophagectomy and total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y anastomosis for gastric small cell carcinoma. Persistent drainage was noted 1 month after surgery, and radiographic studies were consistent with drain tube migration. Endoscopy revealed the drain had migrated into the esophagojejunostomy anastomotic site. The drain was removed from outside of abdominal wound while observing the anastomotic site endoscopically. The patient was treated with suction via a nasogastric tube drain for 5 days, and thereafter had an uneventful recovery. Conclusions: Though drain tube migration is a rare occurrence, it should be considered in patients with persistent drainage who have undergone gastric surgery

    5-Methoxybenzothiophene-2-Carboxamides as Inhibitors of Clk1/4: Optimization of Selectivity and Cellular Potency

    Clks have been shown by recent studies to be promising targets for cancer therapy, as they are considered key regulators in the process of pre-mRNA splicing, which in turn affects every aspect of tumor biology. In particular, Clk1 and -4 are overexpressed in several human tumors. Most of the potent Clk1 inhibitors reported in the literature are non-selective, mainly showing off-target activity towards Clk2, Dyrk1A and Dyrk1B. Herein, we present new 5-methoxybenzothiophene2-carboxamide derivatives with unprecedented selectivity. In particular, the introduction of a 3,5- difluoro benzyl extension to the methylated amide led to the discovery of compound 10b (cell-free IC50 = 12.7 nM), which was four times more selective for Clk1 over Clk2 than the previously published flagship compound 1b. Moreover, 10b showed an improved growth inhibitory activity with T24 cells (GI50 = 0.43 µM). Furthermore, a new binding model in the ATP pocket of Clk1 was developed based on the structure-activity relationships derived from new rigidified analogues

    Indomethacin protects rats from neuronal damage induced by traumatic brain injury and suppresses hippocampal IL-1β release through the inhibition of Nogo-A expression

    BACKGROUND: Nogo-A is a member of the reticulon family of membrane-associated proteins and plays an important role in axonal remodeling. The present study aimed to investigate alterations in Nogo-A expression following traumatic brain injury (TBI)-induced inflammation and neuronal damage. METHODS: A weight-drop device was used to deliver a standard traumatic impact to rats. Western blot, RT-PCR and ELISA were used to analyze the expression of Nogo-A and IL-1β. Nogo-A antisense, and an irrelevant control oligonucleotide was intracerebroventricularly infused. We also performed H & E staining and luxol fast blue staining to evaluate the neuronal damage and demyelination resulting from TBI and various treatments. RESULTS: Based on RT-PCR and western blot analyses, the expression of Nogo-A was found to be significantly upregulated in the hippocampus beginning eight hours after TBI. In addition, TBI caused an apparent elevation in IL-1β levels and severe neuronal damage and demyelination in the tested animals. All of the TBI-associated molecular and cellular consequences could be effectively reversed by treating the animals with the anti-inflammatory drug indomethacin. More importantly, the TBI-associated stimulation in the levels of both Nogo-A and IL-1β could be effectively inhibited by a specific Nogo-A antisense oligonucleotide. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the suppression of Nogo-A expression appears to be an early response conferred by indomethacin, which then leads to decreases in the levels of IL-1β and TBI-induced neuron damage
