    Improving bounds on Îł\gamma in B±→DK±B^{\pm} \to DK^{\pm} and B±,0→DXs±,0B^{\pm,0} \to D X_s^{\pm,0}

    In view of recent experimental progress in rate and CP asymmetry measurements in B±→DK±B^{\pm} \to DK^{\pm}, we reconsider information on the weak phase Îł\gamma which can be obtained from these processes. Model-independent inequalities are proven for sin⁥2Îł\sin^2\gamma in terms of two ratios of partial rates for B±,0→DXs±,0B^{\pm,0} \to D X_s^{\pm,0}, where XsX_s is any multiparticle charmless state carrying strangeness ±1\pm 1. Good prospects are shown to exist for using these inequalities and CP asymmetry measurements in two body and multibody decays in order to improve present bounds on Îł\gamma.Comment: References updated, to be published in Phys. Using data from the FOCUS experiment we analyze the D+π−D^+\pi^- and D0π+D^0\pi^+ invariant mass distributions. We measure the D2∗0D_2^{*0} mass M_{D_2^{*0}} = (2464.5 \pm 1.1 \pm 1.9) \mev and width \Gamma_{D_2^{*0}} = (38.7 \pm 5.3 \pm 2.9) \mev, and the D2∗+D_2^{*+} mass M_{D_2^{*+}} = (2467.6 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.76) \mev and width \Gamma_{D_2^{*+}} = (34.1 \pm 6.5 \pm 4.2) \mev. We find evidence for broad structures over background in both the neutral and charged final state. If each is interpreted as evidence for a single L=1, jq=1/2j_q=1/2 excited charm meson resonance, the masses and widths are M_{1/2}^0 =(2407 \pm 21 \pm 35) \mev, \Gamma_{1/2}^0 = (240 \pm 55 \pm 59) \mev, and M_{1/2}^+ = (2403 \pm 14 \pm 35) \mev \Gamma_{1/2}^+ = (283 \pm 24 \pm 34) \mev, respectively.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures. Single and Pair Production of Doubly Charged Higgs Bosons at Hadron Colliders

    Full text link
    Current searches for doubly charged Higgs bosons (H^{\pm\pm}) at the Fermilab Tevatron are sensitive to single production of H^{\pm\pm}, although the pair production mechanism q\bar q\to H^{++}H^{--} is assumed to be dominant. In the context of a Higgs Triplet Model we study the mechanism q'\bar q\to H^{\pm\pm}H^{\mp} at the Tevatron and CERN Large Hadron Collider, and show that its inclusion can significantly improve the search potential for H^{\pm\pm}. Moreover, assuming that the neutrino mass is generated solely by the triplet field Yukawa coupling to leptons, we compare the branching ratios of H^{\pm\pm}\to l^\pm l^\pm and H^{\pm\pm}\to H^\pm W^* for the cases of a normal hierarchical, inverted hierarchical and degenerate neutrino mass spectrum.Comment: 17 pages, 15 figures, references added, version to appear in PR

    Full text link
    We report measurements of branching fractions and time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0→D+D−B^{0} \to D^{+}D^{-} and B0→D∗±D∓B^{0} \to D^{*\pm}D^{\mp} decays using a data sample that contains (772±11)×106BBˉ(772 \pm 11)\times 10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected at the ΄(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. We determine the branching fractions to be B(B0→D+D−)=(2.12±0.16±0.18)×10−4\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to D^{+}D^{-})=(2.12 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.18)\times 10^{-4} and B(B0→D∗±D∓=(6.14±0.29±0.50)×10−4\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to D^{*\pm}D^{\mp}=(6.14 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.50)\times 10^{-4}. We measure CP asymmetry parameters SD+D−=−1.06−0.14+0.21±0.08\mathcal{S}_{D^{+}D^{-}} = -1.06_{-0.14}^{+0.21} \pm 0.08 and CD+D−=−0.43±0.16±0.05\mathcal{C}_{D^{+}D^{-}} = -0.43 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.05 in B0→D+D−B^{0} \to D^{+}D^{-} and AD∗D=+0.06±0.05±0.02\mathcal{A}_{D^{*}D} = +0.06 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.02, SD∗D=−0.78±0.15±0.05\mathcal{S}_{D^{*}D} = -0.78 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.05, CD∗D=−0.01±0.11±0.04\mathcal{C}_{D^{*}D} = -0.01 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.04, ΔSD∗D=−0.13±0.15±0.04\Delta\mathcal{S}_{D^{*}D} = -0.13 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.04 and ΔCD∗D=+0.12±0.11±0.03\Delta\mathcal{C}_{D^{*}D} = +0.12 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.03 in B0→D∗±D∓B^{0} \to D^{*\pm}D^{\mp}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We exclude the conservation of CP symmetry in both decays at equal to or greater than 4σ4\sigma significance.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure

    Full text link
    Using the ARGUS detector at the e+e−e^+ e^- storage ring DORIS II, we have measured the Michel parameters ρ\rho, Ο\xi, and ΟΎ\xi\delta for τ±→l±ΜΜˉ\tau^{\pm}\to l^{\pm} \nu\bar\nu decays in τ\tau-pair events produced at center of mass energies in the region of the ΄\Upsilon resonances. Using τ∓→ρ∓Μ\tau^\mp \to \rho^\mp \nu as spin analyzing tags, we find ρe=0.68±0.04±0.08\rho_{e}=0.68\pm 0.04 \pm 0.08, Οe=1.12±0.20±0.09\xi_{e}= 1.12 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.09, ΟΎe=0.57±0.14±0.07\xi\delta_{e}= 0.57 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.07, ρΌ=0.69±0.06±0.08\rho_{\mu}= 0.69 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.08, ΟΌ=1.25±0.27±0.14\xi_{\mu}= 1.25 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.14 and ΟΎΌ=0.72±0.18±0.10\xi\delta_{\mu}= 0.72 \pm 0.18 \pm 0.10. In addition, we report the combined ARGUS results on ρ\rho, Ο\xi, and ΟΎ\xi\delta using this work und previous measurements.Comment: 10 pages, well formatted postscript can be found at http://pktw06.phy.tu-dresden.de/iktp/pub/desy97-194.p

    Production of doubly charged scalars from the decay of singly charged scalars in the Higgs Triplet Model

    Full text link
    The existence of doubly charged Higgs bosons (H^{\pm\pm}) is a distinctive feature of the Higgs Triplet Model (HTM), in which neutrinos obtain tree-level masses from the vacuum expectation value of a neutral scalar in a triplet representation of SU(2)_L. We point out that a large branching ratio for the decay of a singly charged Higgs boson to a doubly charged Higgs boson via H^\pm\to H^{\pm\pm}W^* is possible in a sizeable parameter space of the HTM. From the production mechanism q'qbar\to W^* \to H^{\pm\pm}H^\mp the above decay mode would give rise to pair production of H^{\pm\pm}, with a cross section which can be comparable to that of the standard pair-production mechanism qqbar\to \gamma^*,Z^* \to H^{++}H^{--}. We suggest that the presence of a sizeable branching ratio for H^\pm\to H^{\pm\pm}W^* could significantly enhance the detection prospects of H^{\pm\pm} in the four-lepton channel. Moreover, the decays H^0\to H^\pm W^* and A^0\to H^\pm W^* from production of the neutral triplet scalars H^0 and A^0 would also provide an additional source of H^\pm, which can subsequently decay to H^{\pm\pm}.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, two figures added in v2, to appear in Physical Review

    Observation of B+- -> omega K+- Decay

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the charmless two-body mode B±→ωK±B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm} decay, and a new measurement of the branching fraction for the B±→ωπ±B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm} decay. The measured branching fractions are B(B±→ωK±)=(9.2−2.3+2.6±1.0)×10−6{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega K^{\pm}) = (9.2{}^{+2.6}_{-2.3}\pm 1.0) \times 10^{-6} and B(B±→ωπ±)=(4.2−1.8+2.0±0.5)×10−6{\cal B} (B^{\pm} \to \omega \pi^{\pm}) = (4.2{}^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.5) \times 10^{-6}. %and we set 90% confidence level upper limits of %B(B−→ωπ−)<8.1×10−6{\cal B} (B^- \to \omega \pi^-) < 8.1\times 10^{-6}. We also measure the partial rate asymmetry of B±→ωK±B^{\pm}\to\omega K^{\pm} decays and obtain ACP=−0.21±0.28±0.03{\cal A}_{CP} = -0.21 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.03. The results are based on a data sample of 29.4 fb−1^{-1} collected on the ΄(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e−e^{+} e^{-} collider.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, resubmitted to Phys.
