Precise adjustable power suplly
This bachelor´s thesis deals with the proposing precise switching power supply. This switching power supply works with a maximum of 99 % duty cycle. Input voltage is 12 V and output can be set in the range of 1.2 V - 11.9 V. Current can be a source of burden 0 A - 20 A. The entire power supply is controlled by microcontroller. While addressing the proposal switching power supply have been developed five prototypes. Last prototype works well, but the output appeared significant interference.
The process of identity (re)construction of six brazilian english language learners: a poststructuralist qualitative study
Abstract : This qualitative study investigates the process of identity (re)construction of six Brazilian English language learners. The study focused on the participants' most memorable experiences regarding English language learning throughout their entire lives; their investments in learning English; the significant imagined communities in their language learning experiences; the subject positions they assumed within their college groups; the subject positions they assumed regarding the English language. Data were generated with six students taking the undergraduate degree in Letras-Inglês at UFSC, from 2011 to 2013, while I was doing Estágio de Docência, and included class observation, field notes, a student profile form, a written narrative, an open questionnaire, written definitions of culture and language, oral presentations, interviews, and e-mail correspondences. Data analysis followed some strategies of grounded theory, with a focus on investment and imagined communities (Norton, 2000; 2001, for example), and took the participants' comments into consideration. The findings suggest that participants went through a process of identity (re)construction while learning English. Moreover, the results show that families greatly influence students' learning of English, and that learning happens mostly in informal contexts, thus the educational contexts function as appendices. The participants invested in learning English since their childhood, hoping to acquire material and/or symbolic resources. Imagined communities were related to people with whom the participants wished to connect through English, including the virtual world, people with more power, experience, knowledge and/or status, and who respect and value diversity. The students participated more in class when they felt confident and validated, and resorted to non-participation when they were positioned in undesirable ways. Finally, all students wished to relate to the world through the English language, but often felt marginalized and separated from other speakers and users of the language
A large deviation principle for Minkowski sums of heavy-tailed random compact convex sets with finite expectation
We prove large deviation results for Minkowski sums of iid random
compact sets where we assume
that the summands have a regularly varying distribution and
finite expectation. The main focus is on random convex compact sets. The
results confirm the heavy-tailed large deviation heuristics:
``large'' values of the sum are essentially due to the ``largest''
summand. These results extend those in Mikosch et al. (2011) for generally
non-convex sets, where we assumed that the normalization of the sum
grows faster than the number of terms.Thomas Mikosch's research is partly supported by

Effect of Common Buffers and Heterocyclic Ligands on the Binding of Cu(II) at the Multimetal Binding Site in Human Serum Albumin
Visible-range circular dichroism titrations were used to study Cu(II) binding properties of Multimetal Binding Site (MBS) of Human Serum Albumin (HSA). The formation of ternary MBS-Cu(II)-Buffer complexes at pH 7.4 was positively verified for sodium phosphate, Tris, and Hepes, the three most common biochemical buffers. The phosphate > Hepes > Tris order of affinities, together with strong spectral changes induced specifically by Tris, indicates the presence of both Buffer-Cu(II) and Buffer-HSA interactions. All complexes are strong enough to yield a nearly 100% ternary complex formation in 0.5 mM HSA dissolved in 100 mM solutions of respective buffers. The effects of warfarin and ibuprofen, specific ligands of hydrophobic pockets I and II in HSA on the Cu(II) binding to MBS were also investigated. The effects of ibuprofen were negligible, but warfarin diminished the MBS affinity for Cu(II) by a factor of 20, as a result of indirect conformational effects. These results indicate that metal binding properties of MBS can be modulated directly and indirectly by small molecules

Notes to Albert Schweitzer, His Concept of "Reverence for Life" and the Fifth Commandment
The theologian, musician and physician Albert Schweitzer is one of the great Persons of modern times. But he was a big critic of modernity and even of Christianity, and tried to give his time a new ethical basis with his concept of "Reverence for Life". However, it must be revealed that his concept has certainly to do with moments of self-promotion. With his ethical concept he stands in a special relation to the Fifth Commandment "Thou shalt not kill". The more important it must be to realize, what influence had this relation in the political debates on war and peace he was engaged in. But even if it is to see that Schweitzer's conclusions remain contradictory and even if he was not successfull to built up a perfekt ethical system, his concept of "Reverence for Life" gives an important impuls against the modern rational manipulation and exploitation of the world and for a life in God"˜s creation that is worth living
