The first record of the Neolicaphrium recens Frenguelli, 1921 (Mammalia, Litopterna) from Pleistocene deposits of the Río Dulce, Rio Hondo Department, Santiago del Estero Province, Argentina, is reported. The morphology and morphometry observed in the specimen MPAT073 is coincident with the diagnostic characteristics of that species. This finding represents the northernmost and westernmost record of the species, and thus extends its geographical distribution. Geological data suggest that the material comes from a still unnamed Pleistocene stratigraphic unit.

Morphology of the hand skeleton of bats of the genus Noctilio (Chiroptera: Noctilionidae)

In this study, we provide a description of the anterior autopodium of two extant species of bats of the genus Noctilio. Based on the description of Noctilio and the comparisons with other Neotropical bat species, we conclude that this genus has a set of morphological characteristics (e.g. the shape of the radiusscaphocentralunate facet, the presence of two scaphocentralunatemagnum facets, the palmar notch of the trapezoid and the palmarly expanded greater tubercle in metacarpal V) that clearly distinguish it from the families Phyllostomidae, Molossidae, and Vespertilionidae. The distinguished morphological characters of Noctilio may be closely related to its evolutionary history, but also to ecological aspects such as the slow and maneuverable flight and piscivorous and arthropodophagous habits. However, in the proximal carpal joint of Noctilio some characters are shared with phyllostomids and some vespertilionids while it differs with molossids and Lasiurini. Finally, the anatomical and functional information provided will be very useful for future comparative studies involving extant and extinct species, in order to analyze the anatomical changes archived for to powered flight.Fil: Gaudioso, Pablo Javier. Morphology of the axial skeleton of seven bat genera (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae)

ABSTRACT Here we present detailed descriptions and comparisons of the axial skeleton of seven species of bats belonging to five subfamilies of Phyllostomidae of different trophic guilds. The material examined consisted of 34 complete skeletons of seven species. For five of the studied species, previous descriptions have not been conducted, and for the vampires only limited information is available, so that descriptions for these species are here completed. The axial skeleton has characters that allow grouping of the species phylogenetically of the same subfamily and by feeding habits. At the same time, there are characters that associate species from different subfamilies with different types of diet or ways to obtain food
