    Quasi-BiHamiltonian Systems and Separability

Two quasi--biHamiltonian systems with three and four degrees of freedom are presented. These systems are shown to be separable in terms of Nijenhuis coordinates. Moreover the most general Pfaffian quasi-biHamiltonian system with an arbitrary number of degrees of freedom is constructed (in terms of Nijenhuis coordinates) and its separability is proved.Comment: 10 pages, AMS-LaTeX 1.1, to appear in J. Generalized Nijenhuis Torsions and Block-Diagonalization of Operator Fields.

The theory of generalized Nijenhuis torsions, which extends the classical notions due to Nijenhuis and Haantjes, offers new tools for the study of normal forms of operator fields. We prove a general result ensuring that, given a family of commuting operator fields whose generalized Nijenhuis torsion of level m vanishes, there exists a local chart where all operators can be simultaneously block-diagonalized. We also introduce the notion of generalized Haantjes algebra, consisting of operators with a vanishing higher-level torsion, as a new algebraic structure naturally generalizing standard Haantjes algebras

On the integrability of stationary and restricted flows of the KdV hierarchy.

A bi--Hamiltonian formulation for stationary flows of the KdV hierarchy is derived in an extended phase space. A map between stationary flows and restricted flows is constructed: in a case it connects an integrable Henon--Heiles system and the Garnier system. Moreover a new integrability scheme for Hamiltonian systems is proposed, holding in the standard phase space.Comment: 25 pages, AMS-LATEX 2.09, no figures, to be published in J. Phys. A: Math. Gen.

Reduction of bihamiltonian systems and separation of variables: an example from the Boussinesq hierarchy

We discuss the Boussinesq system with t5t_5 stationary, within a general framework for the analysis of stationary flows of n-Gel'fand-Dickey hierarchies. We show how a careful use of its bihamiltonian structure can be used to provide a set of separation coordinates for the corresponding Hamilton--Jacobi equations.Comment: 20 pages, LaTeX2e, report to NEEDS in Leeds (1998), to be published in Theor. Inactivation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in mineral water by DP1 bacteriophage immobilized on ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer used as seal caps of plastic bottles

Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been found in bottled natural mineral water, even though its presence is not allowed in this product by different food regulations. This study aimed to investigate the inactivation of P. aeruginosa present in mineral water by vB_PaeM_CEB_DP1 (short name DP1) bacteriophage immobilized on ethylenevinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer used as seal caps of plastic bottles. EVA was chemically modified using microwaveassisted alcoholysis, improving polymerphage binding. After that, DP1 phage was attached to EVA and EVAOH copolymers and both surfaces were tested for plaque formation using P. aeruginosa. Then, both materials containing immobilized phages were used as seal caps of plastic bottles and its antimicrobial capacity was tested against P. aeruginosa contaminating mineral water. The EVAOH resulted in higher hydrogen bond density that contributed significantly to the phage immobilization on the polymer surface. The polymers containing immobilized phages were able to reduce 0.53 log of P. aeruginosa population present inside mineral water bottles after 14days.The authors thank CAPES for scholarships to Cesar H. The Hamiltonian Structure of the Second Painleve Hierarchy

In this paper we study the Hamiltonian structure of the second Painleve hierarchy, an infinite sequence of nonlinear ordinary differential equations containing PII as its simplest equation. The n-th element of the hierarchy is a non linear ODE of order 2n in the independent variable zz depending on n parameters denoted by t1,...,tn1{t}_1,...,{t}_{n-1} and αn\alpha_n. We introduce new canonical coordinates and obtain Hamiltonians for the zz and t1,...,tn1t_1,...,t_{n-1} evolutions. We give explicit formulae for these Hamiltonians showing that they are polynomials in our canonical coordinates

    PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUNITY-ORIENTED POLICING

    Get PDF
As the philosophy of policing shifts from a traditional to a community-based approach, its implementation needs to be assessed. The study determined the program implementation of community-oriented policing in the town of Dumingag Zamboanga del Sur and its effectiveness in crime reduction from 2014 to 2018. The study employed a descriptive-survey method with the questionnaire-checklist as the main instrument used in gathering the data and information. The survey questionnaire underwent an evaluation process by field expert and tested using Cronbach’s alpha. Weighted Arithmetic Mean, Percentage and ANOVA were the statistical tools used in the data analyses. The participants were PNP, residents, and Barangay Officials of Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur. The results showed that PNP and Barangay officials perceived that the extent of community- oriented policing in Dumingag was implemented without lapses. However, residents rated that the implementation has minimal lapses. The study also revealed that there was a reduction of crimes committed for the past five years of the implementation. The result shows a significant difference among the perceived extent of implementation of the three groups of respondents

Treatment of atrial fibrillation with a dual defibrillator in heart failure patients (TRADE HF): protocol for a randomized clinical trial.

    Get PDF
Background: Heart failure(HF) and atrial fibrillation(AF) frequently coexist in the same patient and are associated with increased mortality and frequent hospitalizations. As the concomitance of AF and HF is often associated with a poor prognosis, the prompt treatment of AF in HF patients may significantly improve outcome.Methods/design: Recent implantable cardiac resynchronization (CRT) devices allow electrical therapies to treat AF automatically. TRADE-HF (trial registration: NCT00345592; http://www.clinicaltrials.gov) is a prospective, randomized, double arm study aimed at demonstrating the efficacy of an automatic, device-based therapy for treatment of atrial tachycardia and fibrillation(AT/AF) in patients indicated for CRT. The study compares automatic electrical therapy to a traditional more usual treatment of AT/AF: the goal is to demonstrate a reduction in a combined endpoint of unplanned hospitalizations for cardiac reasons, death from cardiovascular causes or permanent AF when using automatic atrial therapy as compared to the traditional approach involving hospitalization for symptoms and in-hospital treatment of AT/AF.Discussion: CRT pacemaker with the additional ability to convert AF as well as ventricular arrhythmias may play a simultaneous role in rhythm control and HF treatment. The value of the systematic implantation of CRT ICDs with the capacity to deliver atrial therapy in HF patients at risk of AF has not yet been explored. The TRADE-HF study will assess in CRT patients whether a strategy based on automatic management of atrial arrhythmias might be a valuable option to reduce the number of hospital admission and to reduce the progression the arrhythmia to a permanent for

Differential Calculi on Associative Algebras and Integrable Systems

After an introduction to some aspects of bidifferential calculus on associative algebras, we focus on the notion of a "symmetry" of a generalized zero curvature equation and derive Backlund and (forward, backward and binary) Darboux transformations from it. We also recall a matrix version of the binary Darboux transformation and, inspired by the so-called Cauchy matrix approach, present an infinite system of equations solved by it. Finally, we sketch recent work on a deformation of the matrix binary Darboux transformation in bidifferential calculus, leading to a treatment of integrable equations with sources.Comment: 19 pages, to appear in "Algebraic Structures and Applications", S.
