ASSESSING KINEMATICS AND KINETICS OF HIGH-SPEED RUNNING USING INERTIAL MOTION CAPTURE: A PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to determine whether inertial motion capture (IMC) in combination with musculoskeletal modeling is a suitable method to assess lower limb kinematics and kinetics during high-speed running. Optical motion capture (OMC), IMC and ground reaction forces (GRF) were used as input for musculoskeletal models. Kinematics showed excellent correlations (knee: ρ=0.98, rRMSE=21.0%, hip: ρ=0.95, rRMSE=18.5 %, ankle: ρ=0.93, rRMSE=46.6%). The ground reaction force predictions showed varying results (anteroposterior: ρ=0.77, rRMSE=33.4%, mediolateral: ρ=0.04, rRMSE=69.1%, vertical: ρ=0.78, rRMSE=25.7%). The examined IMC and musculoskeletal modeling approach was proven a useful alternative to OMC and force plates for outdoor measurements in high-speed running

Hybrid Wars Strategy of NATO Countries as a Challenge for the Russian Federation

    Get PDF
Modern technologies, changing a habitual picture of the world and perception of reality, lead to cardinal changes in all spheres of society activity, including military science. There are new forms and ways of conducting combat operations that led to forthcoming of hybrid wars based on diplomatic, economic, military and information infl uence. The article describes defi nitions of hybrid wars and infl uence on their carrying out such technologies as the posttruth and “fake news”. The analysis of the Hybrid Wars Strategy approved by the NATO countries and adopted as a basis for control of Russia and also the concept of hybrid threats as the tool used for causing damage to the state or the coalition of the states without direct or limited use of military force has been carried out. Forms and ways of control and practice of realization of NATO Hybrid Wars Strategy against Russia have been considered

Development of a novel 3D culture system for screening features of a complex implantable device for CNS repair

Tubular scaffolds which incorporate a variety of micro- and nanotopographies have a wide application potential in tissue engineering especially for the repair of spinal cord injury (SCI). We aim to produce metabolically active differentiated tissues within such tubes, as it is crucially important to evaluate the biological performance of the three-dimensional (3D) scaffold and optimize the bioprocesses for tissue culture. Because of the complex 3D configuration and the presence of various topographies, it is rarely possible to observe and analyze cells within such scaffolds in situ. Thus, we aim to develop scaled down mini-chambers as simplified in vitro simulation systems, to bridge the gap between two-dimensional (2D) cell cultures on structured substrates and three-dimensional (3D) tissue culture. The mini-chambers were manipulated to systematically simulate and evaluate the influences of gravity, topography, fluid flow, and scaffold dimension on three exemplary cell models that play a role in CNS repair (i.e., cortical astrocytes, fibroblasts, and myelinating cultures) within a tubular scaffold created by rolling up a microstructured membrane. Since we use CNS myelinating cultures, we can confirm that the scaffold does not affect neural cell differentiation. It was found that heterogeneous cell distribution within the tubular constructs was caused by a combination of gravity, fluid flow, topography, and scaffold configuration, while cell survival was influenced by scaffold length, porosity, and thickness. This research demonstrates that the mini-chambers represent a viable, novel, scale down approach for the evaluation of complex 3D scaffolds as well as providing a microbioprocessing strategy for tissue engineering and the potential repair of SCI

Glucosinolates from cruciferous vegetables and their potential role in chronic disease: Investigating the preclinical and clinical evidence

    Get PDF
An increasing body of evidence highlights the strong potential for a diet rich in fruit and vegetables to delay, and often prevent, the onset of chronic diseases, including cardiometabolic, neurological, and musculoskeletal conditions, and certain cancers. A possible protective component, glucosinolates, which are phytochemicals found almost exclusively in cruciferous vegetables, have been identified from preclinical and clinical studies. Current research suggests that glucosinolates (and isothiocyanates) act via several mechanisms, ultimately exhibiting anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and chemo-protective effects. This review summarizes the current knowledge surrounding cruciferous vegetables and their glucosinolates in relation to the specified health conditions. Although there is evidence that consumption of a high glucosinolate diet is linked with reduced incidence of chronic diseases, future large-scale placebo-controlled human trials including standardized glucosinolate supplements are needed
