    Interplay of Density and Phase Fluctuations in Ultracold One-dimensional Bose Gases

    The relative importance of density and phase fluctuations in ultracold one dimensional atomic Bose gases is investigated. By defining appropriate characteristic temperatures for their respective onset, a broad experimental regime is found, where density fluctuations set in at a lower temperature than phase fluctuations. This is in stark contrast to the usual experimental regime explored up to now, in which phase fluctuations are largely decoupled from density fluctuations, a regime also recovered in this work as a limiting case. Observation of the novel regime of dominant density fluctuations is shown to be well within current experimental capabilities for both 23Na^{23}Na and 87Rb^{87}Rb, requiring relatively low temperatures, small atom numbers and moderate aspect ratios.Comment: Expanded experimental discussion, modified Fig.

    Characteristic and Correlation Between TIME and Complication After Destructive Eye Procedure Patient at Plastic and Reconstruction Division Sanglah Hospital\u27s Eye Clinic Bali-Indonesia

    Destructive eye procedure can be carried out by enucleation, evisceration and excenteration. Some efforts have been developed to reduce the complications, but it still occur within several years after the operation. This research aims to find out the characteristic and correlation between time and complications in patient after destructive eye procedure at Plastic and Reconstruction Division Sanglah Hospital\u27s Eye Clinic. For addition, characteristic of other patients in plastic and reconstruction also provided. This report is an analytical cross sectional study. Data were collected retrospectively from medical report of patients with history of destructive eye procedure in Sanglah Hospital\u27s eye clinic from January 1st until December 31st 2010. Patient\u27s characteristics were presented as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Correlations between variables were statistically analyzed with Correlation of Lambda. Eye trauma, anophthalmic socket and nasolacrimal duct obstruction were the most common diagnosis at plastic and reconstruction division Sanglah Hospital\u27s eye clinic. There were 17 patients with history of destructive eye procedure in this report, including 76.5% male and 23.5% female. There is 58.8% destructive eye procedure held in age 13-50 year, mean 30.75 (SD 19.81). Infection (35.3%), trauma (23.5%) and tumor (11.8%) were the most common cause of destructive eye procedure in this study. Complications of destructive eye procedure occur in 70.6% of patient with contracted socket was the most common complication (58.3%). There was medium correlation between time and complication after the procedure, but the correlation was not statistically significant (r = 0.40; p > 0.05). In conclusion, from this study we obtained that there was medium correlation between time and complication after the procedure, but the correlation was not statistically significant

    Investigations on Deposit Formation in the Holes of Diesel Injector Nozzles

    Current developments in fuels and emissions regulations are resulting in an increasingly severe operating environment for diesel fuel injection systems. The formation of deposits within the holes or on the outside of the injector nozzle can affect the overall system performance. The rate of deposit formation is affected by a number of parameters, including operating conditions and fuel composition. For the work reported here an accelerated test procedure was developed to evaluate the relative importance of some of these parameters in a high pressure common rail fuel injection system. The resulting methodology produced measurable deposits in a custom made injector nozzle on a single cylinder engine. The results indicate that fuels containing 30%v/v and 100% Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME), that does not meet EN 14214 produced more deposit than an EN590 petroleum diesel fuel. Overall, the addition of zinc to the fuel had the biggest effect on deposit formation and resulted in a 12.2% decrease in Indicated Mean Effective Pressure (IMEP). The effects of zinc were unexpectedly reduced when it was added to fuel containing 30%v/v biodiesel. Reducing the common-rail pressure with 30%v/v biodiesel (no added zinc) increased the loss in IMEP. Raising the air and fuel temperatures by 40°C and 30°C respectively showed no bigger loss in IMEP.     Basis-dependent dynamics of trapped Bose-Einstein condensates and analogies with semi-classical laser theory

    We present a consistent second order perturbation theory for the lowest-lying condensed modes of very small, weakly-interacting Bose-Einstein condensates in terms of bare particle eigenstates in a harmonic trap. After presenting our general approach, we focus on explicit expressions for a simple three-level system, mainly in order to discuss the analogy of a single condensate occupying two modes of a trap with the semi-classical theory for two-mode photon lasers. A subsequent renormalization of the single-particle energies to include the dressing imposed by mean fields demonstrates clearly the consistency of our treatment with other kinetic approaches.Comment: 2 Modified Sections: (i) Analogy between 2-mode BEC and Semi-classical laser theory (ii) Links to other kinetic theories made more explicit.
