CuisineNet: Food Attributes Classification using Multi-scale Convolution Network
Diversity of food and its attributes represents the culinary habits of
peoples from different countries. Thus, this paper addresses the problem of
identifying food culture of people around the world and its flavor by
classifying two main food attributes, cuisine and flavor. A deep learning model
based on multi-scale convotuional networks is proposed for extracting more
accurate features from input images. The aggregation of multi-scale convolution
layers with different kernel size is also used for weighting the features
results from different scales. In addition, a joint loss function based on
Negative Log Likelihood (NLL) is used to fit the model probability to multi
labeled classes for multi-modal classification task. Furthermore, this work
provides a new dataset for food attributes, so-called Yummly48K, extracted from
the popular food website, Yummly. Our model is assessed on the constructed
Yummly48K dataset. The experimental results show that our proposed method
yields 65% and 62% average F1 score on validation and test set which
outperforming the state-of-the-art models.Comment: 8 pages, Submitted in CCIA 201
A Multi Criteria Recommendation Engine Model for Cloud Renderfarm Services
Cloud services that provide a complete platform for rendering the animation files using the resources in the cloud are known as cloud renderfarm services. This work proposes a multi criteria recommendation engine model for recommending these Cloud renderfarm services to animators. The services are recommended based on the functional requirements of the animation file to be rendered like the rendering software, plug-in required etc and the non functional Quality of Service (QoS) requirements like render node cost, time taken to upload animation files etc. The proposed recommendation engine model uses a domain specific ontology of renderfarm services to identify the right services that could satisfy the functional requirements of the user and ranks the identified services using the popular Multi Criteria Decision Analysis method like Simple Additive Weighting (SAW). The ranked list of services is provided as recommended services to the animators in the ranking order. The Recommendation model was tested to rank and recommend the cloud renderfarm services in multi criteria requirements by assigning different QoS criteria weight for each scenario. The ranking based recommendations were generated for six different scenarios and the results were analyzed. The results show that the services recommended for each scenario were different and were highly dependent on the weights assigned to each criterion
Effect of pilates and breathing exercise on quality of life and sleep quality among medical students with premenstrual syndrome
Background: Quality of life and sleep quality have been documented as a challenge for college students, with reports indicating impacts on daytime functioning and academic achievement. The present study evaluates the effect of Pilates and breathing exercise on quality of life and sleep quality among medical college students.
Methods: This pre-test and post-test quasi experimental study involving 132 participants consists of one experimental group (assigned Pilates and breathing exercise) and control group (breathing exercise). After the first supervised session, participants were instructed to perform the exercise protocol three times a week for eight weeks. Quality of life and sleep quality were measured by short form 36 quality of life questionnaire and Pittsburgh sleep quality index, respectively. The variables were assessed at baseline and after eight weeks of the study.
Results: After eight weeks, findings showed an improvement in the quality of life and sleep quality in experimental group (p<0.05) compared to the control group. The subjects in the experimental group who followed the Pilates and breathing exercise improved quality of life after the intervention. Especially the role limitation in their activities of daily living due to health problem and emotional problem and the social functioning improved significantly comparing to the pre-test evaluation done prior to the intervention. When comparing the different PSQI components in both pre and post-test of experimental group, the strongest difference was observed in component 3 (sleep duration, p<0.05) and component 7 (daytime dysfunction, p<0.05).
Conclusions: Eight week of Pilates and breathing exercise have significant improvement in quality of life and sleep quality in medical college students
Testing compliance of drug taking-A simple bed side method
Assessment of compliance in drug taking is
a problem in a crowded Outpatient Department.
Using riboflavin as a urinary marker is a simple
and rational method. Identifying riboflavin in
the urine by fluorescence on exposure to ultraviolet
(UV) rays or torch light is being used in
medical practice but not extensively. In this
study, the validity and reliability of these methods
were assessed. The sensitivity and specificity
of this test by UV method was 86% and 82% for
Reader I (medical person) and 82% and 94% for
Reader II (paramedical person). For Reader 1, the
accuracy of reading by UV lamp was the same as
torch light (85%) whereas for Reader II the accuracy
was better with UV lamp (87%) than with
torch (79%). In reading the fluorescence by UV
lamp the crude agreement between the 2 readers
was 82% and chance corrected agreement was
64%. UV lamp method appears to be a reliable
way of assessing compliance both by medical and
paramedical persons whereas torch method appears
to be more reliable when used by a medical
person than by a paramedical person
A study of efficacy of ormeloxifene in abnormal uterine bleeding of ovulatory disorders
Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) of ovulatory disorders is defined as the state of abnormal bleeding from the genital tract without any clinically detectable organic, systemic and iatrogenic cause. AUB is one of the common gynaecological issues among the patients visiting the hospital as it could affect at least 1/3rd of women in the child bearing age. Ormeloxifene, a nonsteroidal, nonhormonal and selective estrogen receptor modulator is a highly safe drug in treating acute and abnormal menstrual bleeding. Methods: The 40 cases of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) with ovulatory disorder in the range of 40-52 years of age were treated with 60 mg ormeloxifene twice a week for first 12 weeks and once a week for next 12 weeks. The patients were evaluated for haemoglobin, pictorial blood loss assessment chart (PBAC) score and endometrial thickness before and after treatment. Results: A significant decrease in endometrial thickness and PBAC score was observed. Also, the level of haemoglobin is found to increase significantly from 8.4±0.8 to 9.9±0.7. In this study, following 6 months of treatment with ormeloxifene, 90% of cases had marked improvement in their symptoms, while 10% of the patients required surgical management i.e., hysterectomy. Amenorrhea was observed in 7.5% of total cases and hypomenorrhea in 5% cases. Conclusions: Based on these results we could conclude that ormeloxifene could be the drug of choice in patients with AUB as it is very safe with manageable side effects. This simple drug-based therapy has facilitated compliance, tolerability and noticeable reduction of symptoms resulting in satisfaction towards the treatment
Transmigration of copper T presenting as abdominal wall mass: a case report
Copper T is one of the widely used intra uterine contraceptive devices due to its safe, effective and reversible nature. It has also been widely used as it is cost effective too. Copper T is usually inserted immediate post-partum, post abortal, during the proliferative phase of any menstrual cycle or 6 to 8 weeks following post-partum. Complications associated with use of Copper T include heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine perforation, displacement and rarely, transmigration. Post-insertion of copper T, women need to have regular follow up visits to prevent such complications. Patients should be advised to check for the presence of threads periodically. Considerable number of patients with transmigration of copper T has been reported in literature. Sites into which transmigration has been reported include broad ligament, ovarian fossa, urinary bladder, sigmoid colon, rectum, peritoneum, omentum, pouch of douglas, retro peritoneal space, iliac veins, ovaries, appendix and rarely in the abdominal wall. Transmigrated copper T may be diagnosed with ultrasonogram, X-ray and CT scan. Copper containing intra-uterine devices are known to provoke inflammatory reactions and symptoms depending upon the sites to which they have been transmigrated. Hence, we should resort to early intervention and remove the misplaced copper IUCD at the earliest. Here, we are reporting a rare case of transmigration of copper T into the anterior abdominal wall elaborating on various facets of copper T including its advent, incidence of use, efficient diagnosis and well-planned retrieval.
The postfinasteride syndrome; an overview
As a 5-α reductase inhibitor, Finasteride has proven effective in ameliorating two conditions documented to be androgen dependent, namely male androgenic alopecia and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Therapeutic results are maintained as long as the drug is administered, with treatment cessation generally leading to the return of symptomatology for each condition. In addition, during the therapeutic phase, several adverse effects have been reported, some of which persist long or indefinitely after treatment cessation, known as “post-finasteride syndrome.”
Herein we present and discuss the most common finasteride side effects, along with a psycho-neuroendocrine rationale that could explain the persistence of many adverse effects after treatment cessation. Moreover, we argue that finasteride adverse effects occurring during finasteride administration should be delineated from postfinasteride side effects (encountered after treatment cessation), suggesting the need to be addressed separately within a therapeutic perspective. Until a tailored therapeutic approach of postfinasteride syndrome becomes available, we have noted that hand preference and sexual orientation seem to be useful as possible predicting factors for finasteride side effects and postfinasteride syndrome.
Finally, even though finasteride administration is considered relatively safe, literature data urges prudence. Specifically, recent studies report that some subjects receiving finasteride develop severe depressive episodes including suicidal thoughts, in part due to persistent sexual side effects
No-Load and Load Tests on 3 Phase Induction Motors used in Irrigation Pumping with Balanced and Unbalanced Supply
Agriculture is the major ocupation in villages and is backbone of India, where irrigated agriculture sector plays an important role in economic development and poverty alleviation of the nation. About 75% of present population of India obtains its livelyhood from the same. Iirrigation is harnessing of water resources for the crops by using motor pumps. Usually wells, tanks, perennial canal and multipurpose river valley projects are worked out. As electrical motors are very affordable and cheaper they are the usual choice to drive pumps. Due to the variation in supply to the pump motor the expected performance is not achieved and lead to variation in machine parameters. The operation of 3 phase motor on single phase supply leads to negative effects like overheating, insulation failure, torque pulsation, de rating and reduction in efficiency. In spite of these adverse effects on motor and irrigation power supply feeder, it is observed that farmers run their 3 phase motor on reduced voltage condition using capacitor splitter and other such. A study of operation of 3 phase motor on no-load and load is performed with balanced and unbalanced voltage condition. Simulation is performed in MATLAB/SIMULINK package for the comparison and justification
