    A Feasibility Study on Using Gfrp Composites Bar in Rc Flexural Member

    Steel reinforcements are commonly used for Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams all around the world to take flexural tension. But, the durability of the structure is reduced due to reinforcement steel corrosion. Avoiding reinforcement corrosion and finding alternative material to take flexural tension is the contemporary research work in the field of structural engineering. In the present study, RC beams are reinforced with Glass Fibre Reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites bar at tension zone and flexural test was carried out to determine the bending moment resistance of the beam. GFRP bars were prepared in the industry with the help of pultruded U-section box formwork. GFRP bars were coated with sand using epoxy resin to increase the bond between bars and the RC beam. Three GFRP reinforced concrete beam specimens of size 700 mm × 200 mm × 200 mm were prepared. Also, same size of normal steel reinforced cement concrete beam member was prepared. After 28 days curing, three point bending test was carried out for all the four beams. Flexural capacity of beams with GFRP bars were compared with RC beam with steel bars. The results revealed that the flexural capacity of RC beams with GFRP bars is more than that of RC beam with steel bars. Also, theoretical analysis was carried out to determine the flexural strength of RC beam with steel and GFRP bars and compared with experimental results

    ASSESSMENT, EVALUATION AND ANALYSIS OF THE MEDICATION ERRORS OF THE PATIENTS ADMITTED AT THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT OF A TERTIARY CARE TEACHING HOSPITAL OF A SOUTH INDIAN CITY

    OBJECTIVE: The study was to assess, evaluate and analyze the medication errors of the patients admitted at the Emergency Department of a tertiary care teaching hospital.METHODS: The study was conducted for 6 months. Data was collected from the patients  admitted in the Emergency Department. The collected data was analyzed to identify medication errors and prescription errors in emergency unit in hospital by using drug information tools like Micromedex, Drug interaction checker, Stockley drug interaction text, BNF, Journals with good impact factor etc.RESULTS: A total of 200 patients were enrolled in the study according to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria in which 108 were males and 92 were females. 340 medication errors were obtained in 122 patients and 78 patients did not have any error. Medication errors were more commonly in the age group of 61-70 years (49%). In 340 medication errors, DDIs were the most (63.3%), followed by drug duplication (13.53%) and drugs given without indication (8.5%). In DDIs moderate interactions were the mostly seen error. On prescription analysis, drugs prescribed without strength (67.6%), omission error (16.4%), drugs prescribed without frequency (16%) was the most commonly seen. The most common pharmacological classification of drugs associated with medication errors were Antibiotics (25.6%), Anti-hypertensive drugs (13.65%) and Anti-platelet drugs (12.9%).CONCLUSION: Incidence of medication errors was mainly due to the use of Antibiotics. Due to the fast paced nature and overcrowding in ED, more number of prescription errors were obtained.   Â

    The estimated average annual landings of large pelagics in Kerala during 2013 -2019 was 35678 t, which formed about 16% of the national average landings of large pelagics of India. The average group wise contribution during 2013-2019 was mainly by tunas (54%), billfishes (15%), seer fishes (14%) and barracudas (8%). The peak fishery occurred during October to March with trawl nets, gill nets and hooks & lines employed. The mechanized, motorized and traditional sectors tap the resources which have demand in the domestic as well as export markets and a supply chain is well established. Several transdermal approaches have been used and recently the Iontophoretic technique has been widely used. This technique of facilitated movement of ion across a membrane under the influence of an externally applied potential difference is one of the most promising physical penetrations enhancing method. The rationale behind using this technique is the capability of this method to increase the systemic delivery of high molecular weight compounds with controlled input kinetics. Also improved systemic bioavailability, ensuring from bypassing the first pass metabolism. This article presents a review of literature relating to iontophoresis. This review briefly describes the history of iontophoresis and discussion of factors which affect Iontophoretic drug delivery.     Developing composites of zinc and hydroxyapatite for degradable orthopedic implant applications

    In the present work, Zn-HA composites were developed by powder metallurgy route targeted for bone implant applicaitons. Zn-HA powders with varying HA content (1, 2, and 4 wt.%) were ball milled for 1 hr and sintered to produce composite compacts. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies were done for all the ball milled powders and sintered compacts. No impurities were observed in the ball milled powders. Microstructural observations revealed the formation of lamellar structure in the composites due to the plastic deformation of the Zn powders during ball milling. Grain size measurements revealed the decreased grain size with increase of addition of HA. Furthermore, aspect ratio (length to thickness ratio) of the grains was measured and found that the aspect ratio was also decreased with the increased HA content. Higher microhardness was measured for all the composites compared with pure Zn. However, composite with 1% has shown higher hardness compared with the remaining composites. Form the preliminary observations, it can be concluded that Zn-HA composites can be successfully produced with lamellar morphology by ball milling followed by sintering for biomedical applications with increased hardness

    Goats provide an essential food supply in the form of milk and meat. Goat milk has distinct qualities, but it shares many similarities with human and bovine milk regarding its nutritional and therapeutic benefits. Because of their different compositions, goat and cow milk products could have different tastes, nutrients, and medicinal effects. Modification in composition aid of goat milk determining the viability of goat milk processing methods. Comparatively, goat's milk has higher calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus levels than cow's or human milk but lower vitamin D, B12, and folate levels. Goat milk is safe and healthy for infants, the old, and healing ailments. Capric, caprylic, and capric acid are three fatty acids that have shown promise as potential treatments for various medical issues. Considering the benefits and drawbacks of goat milk over cow milk is essential; goat milk is more digestible, has unique alkalinity, has a better buffering capacity, and has certain medicinal benefits. Acidifying goat milk shrinks fat globules and makes protein friable (with less αs1-casein and more αs2-casein). Goat milk treats malabsorption illnesses because it has more short- and medium-chain triglycerides that give developing children energy. In wealthy countries, goat milk and its products—yoghurt, cheeses, and powdered goods—are popular with connoisseurs and persons with allergies and gastrointestinal issues who need alternative dairy products. A food product category containing fermented goat milk with live probiotic microbes appears promising nutritionally and medicinally.
