The WEBT Campaign on the Blazar 3C279 in 2006
The quasar 3C279 was the target of an extensive multiwavelength monitoring
campaign from January through April 2006, including an optical-IR-radio
monitoring campaign by the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) collaboration.
In this paper we focus on the results of the WEBT campaign. The source
exhibited substantial variability of optical flux and spectral shape, with a
characteristic time scale of a few days. The variability patterns throughout
the optical BVRI bands were very closely correlated with each other. In
intriguing contrast to other (in particular, BL Lac type) blazars, we find a
lag of shorter- behind longer-wavelength variability throughout the RVB ranges,
with a time delay increasing with increasing frequency. Spectral hardening
during flares appears delayed with respect to a rising optical flux. This, in
combination with the very steep IR-optical continuum spectral index of ~ 1.5 -
2.0, may indicate a highly oblique magnetic field configuration near the base
of the jet. An alternative explanation through a slow (time scale of several
days) acceleration mechanism would require an unusually low magnetic field of <
0.2 G, about an order of magnitude lower than inferred from previous analyses
of simultaneous SEDs of 3C279 and other FSRQs with similar properties.Comment: Accepted for publication in Ap

Research shows that students with academic grit have better achievement, learning regulation, and resilience abilities than students without academic grit. Even so, research results show that it is still rare to find academic grit in a person. Academic hope is a positive psychological variable that has many benefits to positive educational variables and has been proven to be able to predict academic grit. This study tries to look back at the ability of academic hope to academic grit in middle school students. The participants used in this study were 194 students of SMK-SMAK Makassar. There were two instruments distributed to SMK-SMAK Makassar students, namely the academic hope scale and the academic grit scale which were distributed to research respondents. Tests on the data collected show that academic expectations can provide significant academic grit and make a large effective contribution. There are two aspects of academic expectations, namely pathway and agency. Path analysis as an additional analysis to see the predictive ability of each aspect of academic expectations shows that the path makes a large effective contribution, while the agency makes a small effective contribution. These results show the balance of academic expectations of one's academic grit

Guidelines for autopsy investigation of sudden cardiac death: 2017 update from the Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology.
Although sudden cardiac death (SCD) is one of the most important modes of death in Western countries, pathologists and public health physicians have not given this problem the attention it deserves. New methods of preventing potentially fatal arrhythmias have been developed and the accurate diagnosis of the causes of SCD is now of particular importance. Pathologists are responsible for determining the precise cause and mechanism of sudden death but there is still considerable variation in the way in which they approach this increasingly complex task. The Association for European Cardiovascular Pathology has developed these guidelines, which represent the minimum standard that is required in the routine autopsy practice for the adequate investigation of SCD. The present version is an update of our original article, published 10 years ago. This is necessary because of our increased understanding of the genetics of cardiovascular diseases, the availability of new diagnostic methods, and the experience we have gained from the routine use of the original guidelines. The updated guidelines include a detailed protocol for the examination of the heart and recommendations for the selection of histological blocks and appropriate material for toxicology, microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular investigation. Our recommendations apply to university medical centers, regionals hospitals, and all healthcare professionals practicing pathology and forensic medicine. We believe that their adoption throughout Europe will improve the standards of autopsy practice, allow meaningful comparisons between different communities and regions, and permit the identification of emerging patterns of diseases causing SCD. Finally, we recommend the development of regional multidisciplinary networks of cardiologists, geneticists, and pathologists. Their role will be to facilitate the identification of index cases with a genetic basis, to screen appropriate family members, and ensure that appropriate preventive strategies are implemented
Effectiveness of life skills training on increasing self-esteem of high school students
AbstractObjective This study designed to investigate effectiveness of training life skills on adolescents’ students. Method This study is a pseudo-experimental study which accomplished on 160 students in Karaj city. Subjects of the study selected randomly from list of students in all of the schools of Karaj; then they divided randomly in two groups. Trained counsellors taught the life skills to students of the study group, and 80 reminder subjects assigned as control group. After educating the training program, subjects administered Cooper Smith self-esteem questionnaire (58-items version). Results Findings of the study indicated that life skills training lead to significant increase of self-esteem in study group in contrast to control group subjects. Conclusion Psycho education and mental health programs such as life skills training could cause to increase the necessary skills in students and decline school and educational problems
Evaluation of the Oxidative Stress Response of Aging Yeast Cells in Response to Internalization of Fluorescent Nanodiamond Biosensors
Fluorescent nanodiamonds (FNDs) are proposed to be used as free radical biosensors, as they function as magnetic sensors, changing their optical properties depending on their magnetic surroundings. Free radicals are produced during natural cell metabolism, but when the natural balance is disturbed, they are also associated with diseases and aging. Sensitive methods to detect free radicals are challenging, due to their high reactivity and transiency, providing the need for new biosensors such as FNDs. Here we have studied in detail the stress response of an aging model system, yeast cells, upon FND internalization to assess whether one can safely use this biosensor in the desired model. This was done by measuring metabolic activity, the activity of genes involved in different steps and the locations of the oxidative stress defense systems and general free radical activity. Only minimal, transient FND-related stress effects were observed, highlighting excellent biocompatibility in the long term. This is a crucial milestone towards the applicability of FNDs as biosensors in free radical research
