Improving a Satellite Mission System by means of a Semantic Grid Architecture
The use of a semantic grid architecture can make easier the
deployment of complex applications, in which several organizations are involved and diverse resources are shared. This paper presents the application of the architecture defined in the Ontogrid project (S-OGSA) into a scenario for the analysis of the quality of the products of satellite missions

A study of the antioxidant capacity of oak wood used in wine ageing and the correlation with polyphenol composition
The antioxidant capacity of oak wood used in the ageing of wine was studied by four different methods: measurement of scavenging capacity against a given radical (ABTS, DPPH), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) and the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). Although, the four methods tested gave comparable results for the antioxidant capacity measured in oak wood extracts, the ORAC method gave results with some differences from the other methods. Non-toasted oak wood samples displayed more antioxidant power than toasted ones due to differences in the polyphenol compositon. A correlation analysis revealed that ellagitannins were the compounds mainly responsible for the antioxidant capacity of oak wood. Some phenolic acids, mainly gallic acid, also showed a significant correlation with antioxidant capacity
Wine science in the metabolomic era: wine-omics research
Las figuras y tablas que contiene el documento se localizan al final del mismo.Metabolomics approaches have proved valuable in a wide range of areas of knowledge. This review covers the latest advances in the past five years concerning wine chemistry, thanks to the development of metabolomics approaches. The combination of powerful, robust analytical techniques (NMR, LC-MS, GC-MS, FTICR, UHPLC, and CE) provides high-dimensional data that require advanced chemometric tools in order to handle these datasets appropriately and to assess the chemical composition holistically. Metabolomics studies offer the analysis of as many metabolites as possible to carry out unbiased discrimination and/or classification according to variety, origin, vintage and quality and to enable integration of all time-related metabolic changes of wine history throughout its elaborate processing to assure wine authentication and to preclude adulteration. The authors are grateful to the Spanish Ministry of Economy and

Yellowtail Flounder Length at Maturity in the Grand Bank (1995-98)
In this paper yellowtail length at maturity estimates based data collected in the spring Spanish surveys in the
Regulatory Area of Divisions 3NO are presented. Female length at 50 % maturity decreased from 35 cm in 1995 to
23 cm in 1998. In males, this parameter decreased from 23 cm in 1995 to 19 cm in 1998. The differences in L50
estimates in females were significant between 1997 and the previous years , and between 1998 and both 1996 and 1995,
and were not significant between 1997 and 1998. In males, differences were significant between all the years, except
between 1997 and 1998. The covariance analysis between the linearized maturity curves were highly significant in both
sexes
Data on sharks in NAFO Divisions 3LMNO: 1991-1998
A review of the species composition, distribution and abundance of sharks in both the Spanish commercial
catches (1991-98) and research surveys (1988-98) are carried out. Shark species are by-catches of Greenland halibut
fishery. The proportion of shark species in the total catch is small and the main retained species is the black dogfish,
whereas the main discard is the boreal shark. Since 1996 the retained proportion of black dogfish increase notably,
as well as the proportion of total sharks. In the surveys this shark is the species with the highest biomass index.
Black dogfish is found in the deepest waters. The length range of black dogfish is mainly between 50 and 80 cm,
with a mode about 62-63 cm. No evident geographic pattern in the length distribution is observed during the studied
period
Scattering of elastic waves by periodic arrays of spherical bodies
We develop a formalism for the calculation of the frequency band structure of
a phononic crystal consisting of non-overlapping elastic spheres, characterized
by Lam\'e coefficients which may be complex and frequency dependent, arranged
periodically in a host medium with different mass density and Lam\'e
coefficients. We view the crystal as a sequence of planes of spheres, parallel
to and having the two dimensional periodicity of a given crystallographic
plane, and obtain the complex band structure of the infinite crystal associated
with this plane. The method allows one to calculate, also, the transmission,
reflection, and absorption coefficients for an elastic wave (longitudinal or
transverse) incident, at any angle, on a slab of the crystal of finite
thickness. We demonstrate the efficiency of the method by applying it to a
specific example.Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures, Phys. Rev. B (in press

Water wave propagation and scattering over topographical bottoms
Here I present a general formulation of water wave propagation and scattering
over topographical bottoms. A simple equation is found and is compared with
existing theories. As an application, the theory is extended to the case of
water waves in a column with many cylindrical steps
A Semantic Data Grid for Satellite Mission Quality Analysis
The combination of Semantic Web and Grid technologies and architectures cases the development of applications that share heterogeneous resource,, (data and computing elements) that belong to several organisations. The Aerospace domain has an extensive and heterogeneous network of facilities and institutions, with a strong need to share both data and computational resources for complex processing tasks. One such task is monitoring and data analysis for Satellite Missions. This paper presents a Semantic Data Grid for satellite missions, where flexibility, scalability, interoperability, extensibility and efficient development have been considered the key issues to be addressed
