    Morphometric differentiation in small juveniles of the pink spotted shrimp (Farfantepenaeus brasiliensis) and the southern pink shrimp (F. notialis) in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

    The morphometric and morphological characters of the rostrum have been widely used to identify penaeid shrimp species (Heales et al., 1985; Dall et al., 1990; Pendrey et al., 1999). In this setting, one of the constraints in studies of penaeid shrimp populations has been the uncertainty in the identification of early life history stages, especially in coastal nursery habitats, where recruits and juveniles dominate the population (Dall et al., 1990; Pérez-Castañeda and Defeo, 2001). In the western Atlantic Ocean, Pérez-Farfante (1969, 1970, 1971a) described diagnostic characters of the genus Farfantepenaeus that allowed identification of individuals in the range of 8−20 mm CL (carapace length) on the basis of the following morphological features: 1) changes in the structure of the petasma and thelycum; 2) absence or presence of distomarginal spines in the ventral costa of the petasma; 3) the ratio between the keel height and the sulcus width of the sixth abdominal somite; 4) the shape and position of the rostrum with respect to the segments and flagellum of the antennule; and 5) the ratio between rostrum length (RL) and carapace length (RL/CL). In addition, she classified Farfantepenaeus into two groups according to the shape and position of the rostrum with respect to the segments and flagellum of the antennule and the ratio RL/CL: 1) F. duorarum and F. notialis: short rostrum, straight distally, and the proximodorsal margin convex, usually extending anteriorly to the end of distal antennular segment, sometimes reaching to proximal one-fourth of broadened portion of lateral antennular flagellum, with RL/CL 0.80. Pérez-Farfante stressed that, for the recognition to species level of juveniles <10 mm CL, all the characters listed above should be considered because occasionally one alone may not prove to be diagnostic. However, the only characters that could be distinguished for small juveniles in the range 4−8 mm CL are those defined on the rostrum. Therefore, it has been almost impossible to identify and separate small specimens of Farfantepenaeus (Pérez-Farfante, 1970, 1971a; Pérez-Farfante and Kensley, 1997)

    While Ramón Pérez de Ayala is widely regarded as a leading liberal with strong anti-Catholic and indeed anti-religious views, a close examination of his novels reveals a more ambivalent attitude to religious experience. Indeed, his liberalism could be said to embrace religion in its spiritual, as distinct from its temporal, dimensions. This article examines a number of Pérez de Ayala's major novels and discusses his views on, among other things, his knowledge of biblical criticism, his views on transcendence, pantheism, education, Church and State, scholasticism, neo-Thomist aesthetics, sexuality, women and marriage. Perez de Ayala makes extensive use of the Bible and religious texts in his works and, in his advocacy of a return to the values of early Christianity, could be said to show affinities with religious or theological modernism, which is conventionally held not to have any impact within Spain

    Felipe Pérez Martí, who was the Venezuelan Minister of Planning and Development in the government of Hugo Chávez, proposes an economic model that he calls the altruistic economy or fourth way, which leads cooperative game theory to its logical extremes postulating a pure communism.     La película Sangre de Mayo, de José Luis Garci, y la obra teatral Puerta del Sol: un Episodio Nacional, de Juan Carlos Pérez de la Fuente, son la adaptación de las novelas de Benito Pérez Galdós, Trafalgar, La corte de Carlos IV y El 19 de marzo y el 2 de mayo. Estos trabajos cinematográficos y teatrales muestran como se traduce el lenguaje narrativo al fílmico.     Drosophila melanogaster gene tan was originally discovered in the early 20th century as a mutant strain lacking the dark pi gment pattern of wild-type (wt) f lies and, therefore, showing a light yellowish brown color (McEwen, 1918). Flies lack ing Tan function also exhibited abnormalities in vision (Benzer, 1967; Inoue et al. , 1988; True et al. , 2005), and tan males displayed an abnormal courtship behavior (Cook, 1980; Tomkins et al. , 1982). tan 1 ( t 1 ) and tan 3 ( t 3 ) alleles were found as spontaneous mutations, t 3 mutant being apparently lighter than t 1 (Brehme, 1941). tan is the structural gene for N- β -alanyldopamine hydrolase (NBAD-hydrolase or Tan protein), the enzyme that generates dopamine (DA) from NBAD (Wright, 1987; True et al. , 2005). Tan is expressed as a precursor protein of 43.7 kDa. Th is precursor is clea ved into two subunits of 29.9 and 13.8 kDa that apparently conform together a he terodimeric active protein (Wagner et al. , 2007). The enzyme that generates NBAD from DA, th e opposite reaction to the one catalyzed by Tan, is the NBAD-synthase or E bony protein (Wright, 1987; Pérez et al ., 1997), which is codified by the gene ebony . Since both Tan and Ebony ar e involved in cuticle tanni ng, carcinine re gulation, and NBAD metabolism in nervous tissue (Wright, 1987; Pérez et al. , 1997, 2004; Hovemann et al. , 1998; Borycz et al. , 2002; True et al. , 2005), it has been suggested that they function together in a system regulating the levels of dopamine during cuticle sclerotization a nd histamine in the visual metabolism (Borycz et al. , 2002; Pérez et al. , 2010). During the last few years, several publicati ons appeared regarding NBAD-synthase (Wappner et al ., 1996a, b; Pérez et al ., 1997, 2002, 2004, 2010; Hovemann et al. , 1998; Borycz et al. , 2002; Wittkopp et al., 2002; Schachter et al ., 2007), but very little is known about tan (True et al. , 2005; Wagner et al. , 2007).
