    A versatile Montgomery multiplier architecture with characteristic three support

    We present a novel unified core design which is extended to realize Montgomery multiplication in the fields GF(2n), GF(3m), and GF(p). Our unified design supports RSA and elliptic curve schemes, as well as the identity-based encryption which requires a pairing computation on an elliptic curve. The architecture is pipelined and is highly scalable. The unified core utilizes the redundant signed digit representation to reduce the critical path delay. While the carry-save representation used in classical unified architectures is only good for addition and multiplication operations, the redundant signed digit representation also facilitates efficient computation of comparison and subtraction operations besides addition and multiplication. Thus, there is no need for a transformation between the redundant and the non-redundant representations of field elements, which would be required in the classical unified architectures to realize the subtraction and comparison operations. We also quantify the benefits of the unified architectures in terms of area and critical path delay. We provide detailed implementation results. The metric shows that the new unified architecture provides an improvement over a hypothetical non-unified architecture of at least 24.88%, while the improvement over a classical unified architecture is at least 32.07%

    Optimization of 5-axis milling processes using process models

    Productivity and part quality are extremely important for all machining operations, but particularly for 5-axis milling where the machine tool cost is relatively higher, and most parts have complex geometries and high quality requirements with tight tolerances. 5- axis milling, presents additional challenges in modeling due to more complex tool and workpiece interface geometry, and process mechanics. In this paper, modeling and optimization of 5-axis processes with cutting strategy selection are presented. The developed process models are used for cutting force predictions using a part-tool interface identification method which is also presented. Based on the model predictions and simulations, best cutting conditions are identified. Also, for finish process of a complex surface, machining time is estimated using three machining strategy alternatives. Results are demonstrated by example applications, and verified by experiments

    Design and implementation of a fast and scalable NTT-based polynomial multiplier architecture

    In this paper, we present an optimized FPGA implementation of a novel, fast and highly parallelized NTT-based polynomial multiplier architecture, which proves to be effective as an accelerator for lattice-based homomorphic cryptographic schemes. As I/O operations are as time-consuming as NTT operations during homomorphic computations in a host processor/accelerator setting, instead of achieving the fastest NTT implementation possible on the target FPGA, we focus on a balanced time performance between the NTT and I/O operations. Even with this goal, we achieved the fastest NTT implementation in literature, to the best of our knowledge. For proof of concept, we utilize our architecture in a framework for Fan-Vercauteren (FV) homomorphic encryption scheme, utilizing a hardware/software co-design approach, in which polynomial multiplication operations are offloaded to the accelerator via PCIe bus while the rest of operations in the FV scheme are executed in software running on an off-the-shelf desktop computer. Specifically, our framework is optimized to accelerate Simple Encrypted Arithmetic Library (SEAL), developed by the Cryptography Research Group at Microsoft Research, for the FV encryption scheme, where large degree polynomial multiplications are utilized extensively. The hardware part of the proposed framework targets Xilinx Virtex-7 FPGA device and the proposed framework achieves almost 11x latency speedup for the offloaded operations compared to their pure software implementations

    Accelerating LTV based homomorphic encryption in reconfigurable hardware

    After being introduced in 2009, the first fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) scheme has created significant excitement in academia and industry. Despite rapid advances in the last 6 years, FHE schemes are still not ready for deployment due to an efficiency bottleneck. Here we introduce a custom hardware accelerator optimized for a class of reconfigurable logic to bring LTV based somewhat homomorphic encryption (SWHE) schemes one step closer to deployment in real-life applications. The accelerator we present is connected via a fast PCIe interface to a CPU platform to provide homomorphic evaluation services to any application that needs to support blinded computations. Specifically we introduce a number theoretical transform based multiplier architecture capable of efficiently handling very large polynomials. When synthesized for the Xilinx Virtex 7 family the presented architecture can compute the product of large polynomials in under 6.25 msec making it the fastest multiplier design of its kind currently available in the literature and is more than 102 times faster than a software implementation. Using this multiplier we can compute a relinearization operation in 526 msec. When used as an accelerator, for instance, to evaluate the AES block cipher, we estimate a per block homomorphic evaluation performance of 442 msec yielding performance gains of 28.5 and 17 times over similar CPU and GPU implementations, respectively

    Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of Childhood Trauma Questionnaire

    Objective: This study is concerned with examining the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). The CTQ is a self-report instrument designed to evaluate abuse and neglect experiences of childhood and adolescence. Material and Methods: Patients with trauma-related dissociate disorder (n=24), their first-degree relatives (n=50), and non-clinical controls (n=50) matched with the latter group participated in the study. CTQ Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) and a short instrument gathering qualitative information about childhood traumatic experiences (CCKKISL) were administered to all participants. Results Dissociative disorder patients (mean=24.2; 17-39) were younger than their family members who participated the study (mean=40.5;18-70) and the non-clinical group matched with them (mean=40.2; 20-70) in average. Women were in majority among dissociative patients (79.2%) whereas this rate was 54.0% for both their family members and the non-clinical group. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the scale were excellent. A comparison between three study groups with graded differences in trauma histories and an evaluation of the consistency with the qualitative reports of childhood trauma by CCKKISL supported the construct validity of the scale. There was positive correlation between CTQ and DES scores. In factor analysis, all items distributed in the rubrics of predetermined trauma types correctly except those of the physical neglect subscale. Two items were modified by adding clarifications in paranthesis. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the CTQ is reliable and valid as its original form

    Frontal and occipital perfusion changes in dissociative identity disorder

    The aim of the study was to investigate if there were any characteristics of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in dissociative identity disorder. Twenty-one drug-free patients with dissociative identity disorder and nine healthy volunteers participated in the study. In addition to a clinical evaluation, dissociative psychopathology was assessed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Dissociative Disorders, the Dissociative Experiences Scale and the Clinician-Administered Dissociative States Scale. A semi-structured interview for borderline personality disorder, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire were also administered to all patients. Normal controls had to be without a history of childhood trauma and without any depressive or dissociative disorder. Regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) was studied with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with Tc99m-hexamethylpropylenamine (HMPAO) as a tracer. Compared with findings in the control group, the rCBF ratio was decreased among patients with dissociative identity disorder in the orbitofrontal region bilaterally. It was increased in median and superior frontal regions and occipital regions bilaterally. There was no significant correlation between rCBF ratios of the regions of interest and any of the psychopathology scale scores. An explanation for the neurophysiology of dissociative psychopathology has to invoke a comprehensive model of interaction between anterior and posterior brain regions. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.     Dissociative Depression Among Women in the Community

    This study screened the prevalence and correlates of dissociative disorders among depressive women in the general population. The Dissociative Disorders Interview Schedule and the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder sections of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV were administered to 628 women in 500 homes. The prevalence of current major depressive episode was 10.0%. Of the women, 26 (40.6%) had the lifetime diagnosis of a DSM-IV, dissociative disorder, yielding a prevalence of 4.1% for dissociative depression. This group was younger (mean age = 30.7 years) than the nondissociative depression women (mean age = 39.6 years). There was no difference between the 2 groups on comorbid somatization disorder, PTSD, or borderline personality disorder. Besides suicide attempts, the dissociative group was characterized by secondary features of dissociative identity disorder; Schneiderian symptoms; borderline personality disorder criteria; and extrasensory perceptions, including possession experiences. They reported suicidality, thoughts of guilt and worthlessness, diminished concentration and indecisiveness, and appetite and weight changes more frequently than the nondissociative group. Early cessation of school education and childhood sexual abuse were frequently reported by the dissociative depression group. With its distinct features, the concept of dissociative depression may facilitate understanding of treatment resistance in, development of better psychotherapy strategies for, and new thinking on the neurobiology and pharmacotherapy of depressive disorders

    The Prevalence of Conversion Symptoms in Women From a General Turkish Population

    Background: Conversion symptoms have historically be seen to be related to dissociative disorders and early trauma. Objective: This study sought to determine the prevalence of conversion symptoms among women in the general Turkish population. Method: Participants (N = 628) were administered The Dissociative Disorders Interview Schedule, the Borderline Personality Disorder section of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R Personality Disorders, and the PTSD Module of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R; 48.7% of participants had a lifetime history of a conversion symptom. They reported various types of childhood abuse and neglect more frequently than nonconversion subjects. Results: Lifetime diagnosis of major depression, dissociative disorder, and childhood physical abuse predicted a conversion symptom. Effects of childhood neglect and emotional and sexual abuse among subjects with conversion symptoms were mediated by comorbid lifetime diagnosis of major depression and dissociative disorders. Conclusion: The authors suggest revisions to the DSM-V regarding conversion and somatization disorders
