    The predictive effect of teachers’ perception of school principals’ motivating language on teachers’ self-efficacy via a cultural context

    The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between teachers' perception of school principals' motivating language and teachers' self-efficacy mediated by the cultural context. School principals' linguistic communication skills are critical to sustain the motivation of teachers and their self-efficacy. Motivating language theory (MLT), on which this study is based, provides a model that helps us understand how the language, more precisely, the speech acts, used by school principals have an impact on teachers' self-efficacy. A survey method was employed with 252 teachers through convenience sampling. The teachers' mean age was 34.87 (SD = 9.22) years, and the average length of service was 11.72 (SD = 9.42) years. The results showed that school principals' use of motivating language was significantly and positively associated with teachers' self-efficacy (b = 0.10, p < 0.000). The low-context culture was found to have a full mediating effect in this relationship (b = 0.04, t = 3.1771, p < 0.000). The findings contribute to leader communication theory by highlighting a particular emphasis on the language school principals use to motivate teachers

    Universality in W+Multijet Production

    We study WW-boson production accompanied by multiple jets at 7 TeV at the LHC. We study the jet-production ratio, of total cross sections for WW+nn- to WW+(n1n-1)-jet production, and the ratio of distributions in the total transverse hadronic jet energy HTjetsH_{\rm T}^{\rm jets}. We use the ratios to extrapolate the total cross section, and the differential distribution in HTjetsH_{\rm T}^{\rm jets}, to WW+6-jet production.     High multiplicity W+jets predictions at NLO

    The BlackHat Library for One-Loop Amplitudes

    We present recent next-to-leading order (NLO) results in perturbative QCD obtained using the BlackHat software library. We discuss the use of n-tuples to separate the lengthy matrix-element computations from the analysis process.     This is one of the first studies investigating factors related to the adjustment of expatriate spouses. The study extends, both conceptually and methodologically, the limited research on spouse adjustment by testing the effects of language profciency and educational level on adjustment. Furthermore, it is the first study to survey non US respondents in their native language. In the end, we found that time since arrival, educational level, language proficiency, and willingness to communicate are directly related to spouse adjustment

    Scattering amplitudes with massive fermions using BCFW recursion

    We study the QCD scattering amplitudes for \bar{q}q \to gg and \bar{q}q \to ggg where q is a massive fermion. Using a particular choice of massive fermion spinor we are able to derive very compact expressions for the partial spin amplitudes for the 2 \to 2 process. We then investigate the corresponding 2 \to 3 amplitudes using the BCFW recursion technique. For the helicity conserving partial amplitudes we again derive very compact expressions, but were unable to treat the helicity-flip amplitudes recursively, except for the case where all the gluon helicities are the same. We therefore evaluate the remaining partial amplitudes using standard Feynman diagram techniques.Comment: 21 page

    Higgs production in gluon fusion at next-to-next-to-leading order QCD for finite top mass

    The inclusive Higgs production cross section from gluon fusion is calculated through NNLO QCD, including its top quark mass dependence. This is achieved through a matching of the 1/mtop expansion of the partonic cross sections to the exact large s-hat limits which are derived from k_T-factorization. The accuracy of this procedure is estimated to be better than 1% for the hadronic cross section. The final result is shown to be within 1% of the commonly used effective theory approach, thus confirming earlier findings.Comment: 28 pages, 14 figure

    On-shell recursion relations for all Born QCD amplitudes

    We consider on-shell recursion relations for all Born QCD amplitudes. This includes amplitudes with several pairs of quarks and massive quarks. We give a detailed description on how to shift the external particles in spinor space and clarify the allowed helicities of the shifted legs. We proof that the corresponding meromorphic functions vanish at z --> infinity. As an application we obtain compact expressions for helicity amplitudes including a pair of massive quarks, one negative helicity gluon and an arbitrary number of positive helicity gluons.Comment: 30 pages, minor change

    MHV Techniques for QED Processes

    Significant progress has been made in the past year in developing new `MHV' techniques for calculating multiparticle scattering amplitudes in Yang-Mills gauge theories. Most of the work so far has focussed on applications to Quantum Chromodynamics, both at tree and one-loop level. We show how such techniques can also be applied to abelian theories such as QED, by studying the simplest tree-level multiparticle process, e^+e^- to n \gamma. We compare explicit results for up to n=5 photons using both the Cachazo, Svrcek and Witten `MHV rules' and the related Britto-Cachazo-Feng `recursion relation' approaches with those using traditional spinor techniques.Comment: 19 pages, 10 figures.
