Controlling the topological sector of magnetic solitons in exfoliated CrNbS crystals
We investigate manifestations of topological order in monoaxial helimagnet
CrNbS by performing transport measurements on ultra-thin crystals.
Upon sweeping the magnetic field perpendicularly to the helical axis, crystals
thicker than one helix pitch (48 nm) but much thinner than the magnetic domain
size (1 m) are found to exhibit sharp and hysteretic resistance
jumps. We show that these phenomena originate from transitions between
topological sectors with different number of magnetic solitons. This is
confirmed by measurements on crystals thinner than 48 nm --in which the
topological sector cannot change-- that do not exhibit any jump or hysteresis.
Our results show the ability to deterministically control the topological
sector of finite-size CrNbS and to detect inter-sector transitions
by transport measurements.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
Theory of Orbital Ordering, Fluctuation and Resonant X-ray Scattering in Manganites
A theory of resonant x-ray scattering in perovskite manganites is developed
by applying the group theory to the correlation functions of the pseudospin
operators for the orbital degree of freedom. It is shown that static and
dynamical informations of the orbital state are directly obtained from the
elastic, diffuse and inelastic scatterings due to the tensor character of the
scattering factor. We propose that the interaction and its anisotropy between
orbitals are directly identified by the intensity contour of the diffuse
scattering in the momentum space.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Clinical and epidemiological features of enterovirus meningitis in children in 2018
Enteroviral meningitis occupies a leading place in the etiological structure of meningitis. The paper presents a retrospective analysis of 250 medical histories of children with enterovirus meningitis. There is the highest incidence of enterovirus meningitis in the age group of children from 7 to 14 years. Meningitis proceeded in a moderate form, without deaths and residual effects, but in 2 cases there was a severe course of the disease. Enterovirus serous meningitis can be reported as both sporadic diseases and infectious outbreaks.
Influence of spin structures and nesting on Fermi surface and a pseudogap anisotropy in t-t'-U Hubbard model
Influence of two type of spin structures on the form of the Fermi surface
(FS) and a photoemission intensity map is studied for t-t'-U Hubbard model.
Mean field calculations are done for the stripe phase and for the spiral spin
structure. It is shown, that unlike a case of electron doping, the hole-doped
models are unstable with respect to formation of such structures. The pseudogap
anisotropies are different for h- and e- doping. In accordance with ARPES data
for La2SrxCuO4 the stripe phase is characterized by quasi-one-dimensional
segments of FS at k=(\pi,0) and by suppression of spectral weight in diagonal
direction. It is shown that spiral structures display the polarisation
anisotropy: different segments of FS correspond to electros with different spin
polarisations.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

Variations in O-antigen biosynthesis and O-acetylation associated with altered phage sensitivity in Escherichia coli 4s
© 2015, American Society for Microbiology. The O polysaccharide of the lipopolysaccharide (O antigen) of Gram-negative bacteria often serves as a receptor for bacteriophages that can make the phage dependent on a given O-antigen type, thus supporting the concept of the adaptive significance of the O-antigen variability in bacteria. The O-antigen layer also modulates interactions of many bacteriophages with their hosts, limiting the access of the viruses to other cell surface receptors. Here we report variations of O-antigen synthesis and structure in an environmental Escherichia coli isolate, 4s, obtained from horse feces, and its mutants selected for resistance to bacteriophage G7C, isolated from the same fecal sample. The 4s O antigen was found to be serologically, structurally, and genetically related to the O antigen of E. coli O22, differing only in side-chain α-D-glucosylation in the former, mediated by a gtr locus on the chromosome. Spontaneous mutations of E. coli 4s occurring with an unusually high frequency affected either O-antigen synthesis or O-acetylation due to the inactivation of the gene encoding the putative glycosyltransferase WclH or the putative acetyltransferase WclK, respectively, by the insertion of IS1-like elements. These mutations induced resistance to bacteriophage G7C and also modified interactions of E. coli 4s with several other bacteriophages conferring either resistance or sensitivity to the host. These findings suggest that O-antigen synthesis and O-acetylation can both ensure the specific recognition of the O-antigen receptor following infection by some phages and provide protection of the host cells against attack by other phages

Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya interaction: How to measure its sign in weak ferromagnetics?
Three experimental techniques sensitive to the sign of the
Dzyaloshinskii--Moriya interaction are discussed: neutron diffraction,
Moessbauer gamma-ray diffraction, and resonant x-ray scattering. Classical
examples of hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) and MnCO3 crystals are considered in detailComment: 5 pages, 1 figure; to be published in JETP Letter
