    Novel surfactant-free route to delaminated all-silica and titanosilicate zeolites derived from a layered borosilicate MWW precursor

    Layered borosilicate zeolite precursor ERB-1P (Si/B = 11) is delaminated via simultaneous deboronation and SDA removal, to yield material DZ-1 consisting of silanol nests, using a simple aqueous Zn(NO_3)_2 treatment. Characterization of this synthesis process by PXRD shows loss of long-range order, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) demonstrates transformation of rectilinear layers in the layered zeolite precursor to single and curved layers in the delaminated material. N_2 physisorption confirms the expected decrease of micropore volume and increase in external surface area for delaminated materials relative to their calcined 3D zeolite counterpart. Elemental analysis shows loss of B and absence of Zn in the delaminated material. Resonances corresponding to silanol nests are evident via^(29)Si solid-state NMR spectroscopy in DZ-1, which should be located within 12-MR pockets near the external surface. We have successfully utilized these nests as tetrahedral recognition sites for incorporation of Ti within an isolated framework coordination environment in material Ti-DZ-1. Diffuse-reflectance ultraviolet (DR-UV) spectroscopy of Ti-DZ-1 confirms isolated framework Ti sites, which are assigned to bands in the range of 210 nm–230 nm. Infrared spectra of Ti-DZ-1 consist of a distinct absorption band at 960 cm^(−1), which is absent in DZ-1 prior to Ti incorporation and has been previously correlated with the presence of framework Ti species. Infrared spectra after pyridine adsorption demonstrate bands consistent with Lewis-acid sites in the resulting Ti-substituted delaminated zeolite. The accessibility of these Lewis-acid sites is confirmed when using Ti-DZ-1 as a catalyst for cyclohexene epoxidation using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the organic oxidant – a reaction for which both DZ-1 and TS-1 are inactive

    Two-step synthesis of Fe2O3 and Co3O4 nanoparticles: towards a general method for synthesizing nanocrystalline metal oxides with high surface area and thermal stability

In the first step, metal nitrate precursors were deposited by wet impregnation onto the AC, then heated in argon at 350 °C to immobilize the metal oxides. In the second step, the AC was removed by calcination in air at 500 °C, to obtain the unsupported metal oxide NCMs. Characterization by N2-sorption isotherms, TGA, XPS and EXAFS reveals that the metal oxide particles are crystalline and nanometre-sized, with surface areas up to 148 m2 g−1. Moreover, the TEM images show particle sizes in the range 5–10 nm, even after calcination at 500 °C for 2 h.     Role of Delamination in Zeolite-Catalyzed Aromatic Alkylation: UCB‑3 versus 3‑D Al-SSZ-70

    Delaminated zeolite UCB-3 exhibits 2.4-fold greater catalytic activity relative to its three-dimensional (3D) zeolite counterpart, Al-SSZ-70, and 2.0-fold greater activity (per catalyst mass) when compared with industrial catalyst MCM-22, for the alkylation of toluene with propylene at 523 K. The former increase is nearly equal to the observed relative increase in external surface area and acid sites upon delamination. However, at 423 K for the same reaction, UCB-3 exhibits a 3.5-fold greater catalytic activity relative to 3D Al-SSZ-70. The higher relative rate enhancement for the delaminated material at lower temperature can be elucidated on the basis of increased contributions from internal acid sites. Evidence of possible contributions from such acid sites is obtained by performing catalysis after silanation treatment, which demonstrates that although virtually all catalysis in MCM-22 occurs on the external surface, catalysis also occurs on internal sites for 3D Al-SSZ-70. The additional observed enhancement at low temperatures can therefore be rationalized by greater access to internal active sites as a result of sheet breakage during delamination. Such breakage leads to shorter characteristic internal diffusion paths and was visualized using TEM comparisons of UCB-3 and 3D Al-SSZ-70

    INTEnsive care bundle with blood pressure reduction in acute cerebral hemorrhage trial (INTERACT3): Study protocol for a pragmatic stepped-wedge cluster-randomized controlled trial

    Background: Early intensive blood pressure (BP) lowering remains the most promising treatment for acute intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), despite discordant results between clinical trials and potential variation in the treatment effects by approach to control BP. As the third in a series of clinical trials on this topic, the INTEnsive care bundle with blood pressure Reduction in Acute Cerebral hemorrhage Trial (INTERACT3) aims to determine the effectiveness of a goal-directed care bundle protocol of early physiological control (intensive BP lowering, glycemic control, and pyrexia treatment) and reversal of anticoagulation, in acute ICH.Methods: INTERACT3 is a pragmatic, international, multicenter, stepped-wedge (4 phases/3 steps), cluster-randomized controlled trial to determine the effectiveness of a multifaceted care package in adult (age ≥ 18 years) patients (target 8360) with acute ICH (\u3c 6 h of onset) recruited from 110 hospitals (average of 19 consecutive patients per phase) in low- and middle-income countries. After a control phase, each hospital implements the intervention (intensive BP lowering, target systolic \u3c 140 mmHg; glucose control, target 6.1-7.8 mmol/L and 7.8-10.0 mmol/L in those without and with diabetes mellitus, respectively; anti-pyrexia treatment to target body temperature ≤ 37.5 °C; and reversal of anticoagulation, target international normalized ratio \u3c 1.5 within 1 h). Information will be obtained on demographic and baseline clinical characteristics, in-hospital management, and 7-day outcomes. Central trained blinded assessors will conduct telephone interviews to assess physical function and health-related quality of life at 6 months. The primary outcome is the modified Rankin scale (mRS) at 6 months analyzed using ordinal logistic regression. The sample size of 8360 subjects provides 90% power (α = 0.05) to detect a 5.6% absolute improvement (shift) in the primary outcome of the intervention versus control standard care, with various assumptions.Discussion: As the largest clinical trial in acute ICH, INTERACT3 is on schedule to provide an assessment of the effectiveness of a widely applicable goal-directed care bundle for a serious condition in which a clearly proven treatment has yet to be established.Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03209258.     Trends of hypercholesterolemia change in Shenzhen, China during 1997-2018

    To demonstrate the trends of hypercholesterolemia change in Shenzhen, China from 1997 to 2018. Participants were residents aged 18 to 69 years in Shenzhen, China, and were recruited using multi-stage cluster sampling. All participants were surveyed about their socio-demographics, lifestyle, occupation, mental health, and social support. Physical measurements and blood samples for subsequent measurements were collected according to a standardized protocol. A total of 26,621 individuals participated in the three surveys with 8,266 in 1997, 8,599 in 2009, and 9,756 in 2018. In both women and men, there was a significant downward linear trend in age-adjusted mean high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) from 1997 to 2018 (women: 0.17 ± 0.06, p = 0.008 vs. men: 0.21 ± 0.04, p < 0.001). In contrast, the age-adjusted total triglycerides and total cholesterol in both sexes have demonstrated an increasing trend in the past two decades. However, no significant changes in age-adjusted low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) in both men and women between 2009 and 2018 were found (women: 0.00 ± 0.02, p = 0.85 vs. men 0.02 ± 0.03, p = 0.34). The age-adjusted prevalence of hypercholesterolemia observed a rapid rise from 1997 to 2009 and appeared to be stabilized in 2018, which was similar to the trend of the prevalence of high total triglycerides in women. Changes in trends were varied by different types of lipids traits. Over the observed decades, there was a clear increasing trend of prevalence of low HDL-C (<1.04 mmol/L) in both sexes (women: 8.8% in 1997 and doubled to reach 17.5% in 2018 vs. men was 22.1% in 1997 and increased to 39.1% in 2018), particularly among younger age groups. Hence, a bespoke public health strategy aligned with the characteristics of lipids epidemic considered by sex and age groups needs to be developed and implemented

    Selective molecular recognition by nanoscale environments in a supported iridium cluster catalyst

    The active sites of enzymes are contained within nanoscale environments that exhibit exquisite levels of specificity to particular molecules. The development of such nanoscale environments on synthetic surfaces, which would be capable of discriminating between molecules that would nominally bind in a similar way to the surface, could be of use in nanosensing, selective catalysis and gas separation. However, mimicking such subtle behaviour, even crudely, with a synthetic system remains a significant challenge. Here, we show that the reactive sites on the surface of a tetrairidium cluster can be controlled by using three calixarene–phosphine ligands to create a selective nanoscale environment at the metal surface. Each ligand is 1.4 nm in length and envelopes the cluster core in a manner that discriminates between the reactivities of the basal-plane and apical iridium atoms. CO ligands are initially present on the clusters and can be selectively removed from the basal-plane sites by thermal dissociation and from the apical sites by reactive decarbonylation with the bulky reactant trimethylamine-N-oxide. Both steps lead to the creation of metal sites that can bind CO molecules, but only the reactive decarbonylation step creates vacancies that are also able to bond to ethylene, and catalyse its hydrogenation

    Who is the main caregiver of the mother during the doing-the-month : is there an association with postpartum depression?

    Background: To examine the relationship between the main caregiver during the “doing-the-month” (a traditional Chinese practice which a mother is confined at home for 1 month after giving birth) and the risk of postpartum depression (PPD) in postnatal women. Methods: Participants were postnatal women stayed in hospital and women who attended the hospital for postpartum examination, at 14–60 days after delivery from November 1, 2013 to December 30, 2013. Postpartum depression status was assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Univariate and multivariable logistic regressions were used to identify the associations between the main caregiver during “doing-the-month” and the risk of PPD in postnatal women. Results: One thousand three hundred twenty-five postnatal women with a mean (SD) age of 28 (4.58) years were included in the analyses. The median score (IQR) of PPD was 6.0 (2, 10) and the prevalence of PPD was 27%. Of these postnatal women, 44.5% were cared by their mother-in-law in the first month after delivery, 36.3% cared by own mother, 11.1% by “yuesao” or “maternity matron” and 8.1% by other relatives. No association was found between the main caregivers and the risk of PPD after multiple adjustments. Conclusions: Although no association between the main caregivers and the risk of PPD during doing-the-month was identified, considering the increasing prevalence of PPD in Chinese women, and the contradictions between traditional culture and latest scientific evidence for some of the doing-the-month practices, public health interventions aim to increase the awareness of PPD among caregivers and family members are warranted

    Heteroatom-Tolerant Delamination of Layered Zeolite Precursor Materials

    The synthesis of the first delaminated borosilicate layered zeolite precursor is described, along with its aluminosilicate analogue, which consists of Al-containing UCB-3 and B-containing UCB-4 from as-made SSZ-70. In addition, the delamination of PREFER (which is the precursor to ferrierite zeolite) under similar conditions yields delaminated layered zeolite precursors consisting of Al-containing UCB-5 and Ti-containing UCB-6. Multinuclear solid-state NMR spectroscopy (^(11)B and ^(27)Al), diffuse-reflectance UV-vis spectroscopy, and heteroatom/Si ratios measured via elemental analysis are consistent with a lack of heteroatom leaching from the framework following delamination. Such mild delamination conditions are achieved by swelling the zeolite precursor in a fluoride/chloride surfactant mixture in DMF solvent, followed by sonication. Powder X-ray diffraction, argon gas physisorption, and chemisorption of bulky base probes strongly suggest delamination, and demonstrate a 1.5-fold increase in the number density of external acid sites and surface area of calcined UCB-3, relative to calcined Al-SSZ-70. The synthesis of microporous pockets in materials UCB-3–UCB-5 suggests the possibility of interlayer porosity in SSZ-70, which is a layered zeolite precursor material whose structure remains currently unknown. The mildness of the delamination method presented here, as well as the lack of need for acidification in the synthesis procedure, enables the delamination of heteroatom-containing zeolites while preserving the framework integrity of labile heteroatoms, which could otherwise be leached under harsher conditions
