Remarks on the algebraic structure of (2, 2) double forms
We study the algebraic features of covariant tensors of valence four
containing two blocks of skew indices. After a rather general treatment, we
specialize ourselves to four-dimensional spacetimes and discuss several
complementary aspects of these objects. In particular, we focus our attention
on the corresponding invariant subspaces and generalise previous relations such
as the Ruse-Lanczos identity, the Bel-Matte decomposition and the Lovelock-like
quadratic identities. We conclude pointing out some possible applications of
the formalism
Use of filamentous fungi for improving electricity production and textile dye treatment in a microbial fuel cell
Urban and industrial wastewaters have received an increased interest towards energy harvesting using microbial fuel cells (MFC). The combined use of microbial anode oxidizing organic substrates and enzymatic cathode reducing oxygen is a promising new approach for the simultaneous treatment of wastewater and generation of electricity. In this context, our study evaluated the performance of a two-chambered MFC operated with three laccase producing strains of filamentous fungi (Ff), immobilized on the cathodic compartment and filled up with simulated textile dye effluent (TDE) and urban wastewater in the anodic compartment. The result indicated a rapid TDE decolourisation (>86 % within 72 h). Electrochemical monitoring of the MFC during TDE decolourisation indicated power density (>35 mW m2, control 3,61) and laccase activity (989.6 U l–1) in the presence of Pleurotus ostreatus on the cathodic compartment. Considering the initial COD value of 464 ± 20 mg.l-1, the organic removal in the anodic compartment after 20 days of MFC operation was 90.2%. Final toxicity measurements in the TDE treated indicated a much lower impact when compared to the original TDE. These are the initial studies to select Ff as models for MFC application and further adaptation for wastewater treatment and bioelectricity generatio
Synthesis and characterization of fructosyltransferase from Aspergillus oryzae ipt-301 for high fructooligosaccharides production
Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are mainly produced by microbial fructosyltransferases (FTase, E.C.2.4.1.9), and Aspergillus oryzae IPT-301 has shown high fructosyl transferring and low hydrolytic activities, which leads to high FOS production yields, but the main operating parameters for its best performance have been scarcely studied. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate the cellular growth, production and characterization of mycelial and extracellular FTases by Aspergillus oryzae IPT-301. Experimental design showed that the extracellular FTase performance was optimized (high transfructosylation activity and low hydrolytic activity) for reaction pH 5.5 - 6.75 and temperature of 45-50 °C and was fitted by the Michaelis-Menten model, while the mycelial FTase showed better performance at pH below 6.5 and temperature above 46 °C and was better fitted by the Hill model. The results obtained showed that the fungus represents a promising source for FOS production on a laboratorial scale. The authors gratefully acknowledge The State of Minas Gerais Research Foundation (FAPEMIG, Process APQ-02131-14) for providing financial support and the Institute for Technological Research (IPT/SP)/Programa Novos Talentos, through an individual research grant attributed to Cristiane Angélica Ottoni.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Implicit Regularization and Renormalization of QCD
We apply the Implicit Regularization Technique (IR) in a non-abelian gauge
theory. We show that IR preserves gauge symmetry as encoded in relations
between the renormalizations constants required by the Slavnov-Taylor
identities at the one loop level of QCD. Moreover, we show that the technique
handles divergencies in massive and massless QFT on equal footing.Comment: (11 pages, 2 figures

Regularization Independent Analysis of the Origin of Two Loop Contributions to N=1 Super Yang-Mills Beta Function
We present a both ultraviolet and infrared regularization independent
analysis in a symmetry preserving framework for the N=1 Super Yang-Mills beta
function to two loop order. We show explicitly that off-shell infrared
divergences as well as the overall two loop ultraviolet divergence cancel out
whilst the beta function receives contributions of infrared modes.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, typos correcte
