Consumer reviews and experiences on UGC platforms are interoperable decision-making sources. Revolutionized UGC communication platform has changed millennial moms' birthplace decision-making process. They are rising concerns that UGC may lead to unsafe birth practices and risk the safety of the mother and baby. This preliminary qualitative study objective focused on exploring how other birth experiences shared over the UGC platform influence millennial moms' birthplace decisions. Preliminary findings identified two themes: verification and ratification and visibility and trustworthiness. The study provides in-depth information that aids policymakers, service providers, and marketers in understanding the millennial birthplace decision-making process from the consumers' perspective.                                                                                                          Keywords: user-generated-content; decision-making process; experience; information search eISSN: 2398-4287 © 2022. Get PDF
This study examines how Malaysian leader and member in healthcare industry interpret and demonstrate leader-member relationships differentiation influence team effectiveness, operationalized as team satisfaction and team viability. Our sample of 475 staff nurses represented 92 wards in four hospitals. Results revealed that team potency mediates the relationship between LMX differentiation and team effectiveness. These findings validate our proposition of leader-member exchange differentiation in Malaysian healthcare industry and empirical support for the central roles of team potency as a socio-emotional process in workgroups

The Relationship Between Leader-Member Exchange Differentiation and Team Performance: Cooperative Communication as Mediator

    Get PDF
The objective of this paper is to propose a conceptual model that explains the psychological process of how leader-member exchange (LMX) differentiation influences team performance. Based on theories of LMX and social information processing, it is argued that several important mechanisms underpin the relationship between LMX differentiation and team performance. Therefore, the researchers suggest that the team process mechanism such as cooperative communication serves as a psychological process to influence LMX differentiation and team performance relationship. The conceptual significance and how it affects the relationship is discussed in this paper. The proposed model increases the understanding of the role of cooperative communication in the relationship between LMX differentiation and team performance. The findings of this study will also help minimize the negative effect of LMX differentiation and may ultimately lead to better team performance

BACKGROUND: As a third-world country experiencing a rise in the elderly population and changes to traditional family structures, improving psychological health is critical to improving quality of life (QoL) in the older adults living in residential care facilities in Jordan. PURPOSE: This study aimed to (a) estimate the prevalence of depression among nursing home (NH) residents in Jordan; (b) measure perceived QoL in these NH residents in the dimensions of mobility, self-care, usual activity, pain and discomfort, and anxiety/depression; and (c) assess the influence of depression on each of these QoL dimensions. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited a convenience sample of 155 participants living in a residential care facility in Jordan. The instruments used included a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, the Mini-Mental State Examination, a Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), and the EuroQol, which is a five-dimension, five-level questionnaire. The data were presented as means, standard deviations, and percentages as well as adjusted odds ratios (AORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: A high prevalence of depression was found in the study population, with 72.3% having a score between 6 and 9 on the GDS, which is suggestive of depression. Moreover, 18.1% scored ≥ 10 on the GDS, which is indicative of a nearly continual state of depression. With regard to the QoL dimensions, 84.5% of the participants reported experiencing pain, 81.9% reported anxiety/depression, 80.6% reported problems performing usual activities, 75.5% reported problems with self-care, and 63.2% reported mobility difficulties. Pain, anxiety, and depression were found to be significantly associated with level of depression (AOR = 2.78 and 95% CI [1.18, 6.57], AOR = 5.81 and 95% CI [2.14, 15.78], and AOR = 4.75 and 95% CI [1.87, 12.07], respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Depression is common among NH residents in Jordan and is associated significantly with poor QoL. This study yielded empirical data that may be used to develop strategies to enhance or promote the mental health status and QoL of NH residents in Jordan

The studys objectives were to ascertain the volume of television sports programming watched by college students in Jordanian universities as well as how these programs influenced their understanding of physical fitness. This was accomplished by using a survey method on 400 students from Yarmouk University and Zarqa University, who made up an equally stratified sample. The findings showed that men watch more television sports programming than women. Additionally, people who regularly exercise tend to watch these programs more than those who do not exercise at all. The results also showed that Yarmouk University students, as opposed to students at Al-Zarqa University, had a greater understanding of physical fitness due to the large part of television sports programs. Additionally, these programs have a more significant impact on influencing students in scientific colleges knowledge of physical health than they do on students in art colleges. Furthermore, compared to people who dont engage in any physical activities, they have a more significant impact on forming this awareness in people who regularly exercise. The findings also showed that the importance of television sports programs in influencing participants awareness of physical health increased with the participants intensity of watching

Background: For centuries, clinicians, anthropologists, and palmists have found the creases in the palm interesting. However, only in the last fifty years that research's started to examine the variations in these creases. Based on the three main palmar creases, thenar, proximal, and distal transverse creases, four patterns of palmar creases are identified; nonvariant, Sydney, Suwon, and simian. Previous studies of palmar creases revealed that familial components, race, sex, and age are factors that influence the expression of palmar crease patterns. Simian patterns of palmar creases are linked to various congenital diseases, some characterized by low level of intelligence. Aim: This paper aims to investigate the variations in palmar crease patterns among medical and dental students of Omar Al-Mukhtar University and to study the range of intelligence capacity associated with each pattern. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on 183 students. A paper-based IQ test was performed and photos were taken from both palms of all participants. Results: Out of 183 participants, the nonvariant pattern of palmar creases was found in 92%, in which, 100 students have bilateral 2 points of origin palmar creases and 48 students have bilateral 3 points of origin palmar creases, whereas 18 participants have one palm of 2 points and the other palm of 3 points of origin. Unilateral simian was the dominant type in the aberrant palmar creases, followed by bilateral Sydney, then unilateral Sydney, and Suwon. Conclusion: The students with unilateral simian have the highest average score of 47.166 followed by bilateral nonvariant and unilateral nonvariant. Students with unilateral Sydney have the lowest average score of 41

AIM: To determine the distribution of vancomycin MIC and the frequency of S. aureus strains with reduced vancomycin susceptibility among Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates. METHODS: MRSA isolates (n = 100) were tested for reduced susceptibility to vancomycin using  MIC broth microdilution method (BMD), vancomycin screening agar with different vancomycin concentrations with and without casein, and Vitek 2 system. RESULTS: BMD detected (22%) vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (VISA) and (78%) vancomycin-susceptible S. aureus (VSSA) but couldn’t detect nine (Heterogeneous VISA) (hVISA)   isolates (9%) with MIC ≤ 2 µg/ml that grew on screening agar 4 µg/ml or 6 µg/ml. Adding casein to vancomycin screening agar increased detection rate of VISA by 4.5%.  Screening agar with 6 µg/ml vancomycin overall detection rate for VISA was 95.45%. Probable ‘pre-hVISA’isolates (17%) showed growth on vancomycin screening agar 2 µg/ml with casein. Vitek 2 system failed to detect any VISA isolates. CONCLUSION: Vancomycin screening agar; 2 µg/ml and (4 and 6 µg/ml) were able to detect; probable “pre hVISA and (hVISA and VISA) isolates respectively based on their BMD MIC values. Decreased vancomycin susceptibility in MRSA isolates might be related to MIC creep. Analysis of vancomycin MIC values over longer periods is recommended to further study this phenomenon and its impact on vancomycin treatment failure.   ABSTRACT Aims: Determine the distribution of vancomycin MIC and the frequency of S. aureus strains with reduced vancomycin susceptibility among MRSA isolates.  Methods:  MRSA isolates (n =100) were tested for reduced susceptibility to vancomycin using  MIC broth microdilution method(BMD), vancomycin screening agar with different vancomycin concentrations with and without casein, and Vitek 2 system.  Results: BMD detected (22%) vancomycin intermediate S. aureus(VISA) and (78%) vancomycin susceptible S. aureus(VSSA) but failed to detect nine (Heterogeneous VISA) (hVISA)  isolates (9%) with MIC ≤2ug/ml that grew on screening agar 4ug/ml or 6 ug/ml. ObjectiveWe sought to report our experience of repairing acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD) over 21 years during in-hours versus out-of-hours before and after the establishment of specialized aortic service and rota.MethodsA retrospective analysis of all patients who had ATAAD repair between November 1998 and December 2019 in our center. In-hours were defined as 08:00 to 19:59 hours and out of hours were defined as 20:00 to 07:59 hours.ResultsA total of 286 patients underwent repair of ATAAD. Eighty operations took place during the prerota period (43 operations in hours, 37 out of hours) and 206 operations during the specialized rota period (110 in hours, 96 out of hours). There was no difference in 30-day mortality between the in-hours and out-of-hours groups in either the prerota (23.3% vs 32.4%; P = .36) or specialized rota periods (11.6% vs 11.5%; P = .94). Mean number of cases per year increased by 83% between the prerota and specialized rota periods. Thirty-day mortality reduced in both the in-hours (23.3% vs 11.6%) and out-of-hours (32.4% vs 11.5%) groups since introduction of the specialized aortic rota.ConclusionsOutcomes in repair of ATAAD during in-hours and out-of-hours periods are similar when operated on in a specialized unit with a dedicated aortic team. This emphasizes the current global trend of service centralization without particular attention to time of day to operate on such critical cohort patients
