The impact of interactive music therapy on the pediatric oncology population

    Get PDF
It is an unfortunate truth that a child with cancer will experience pain or anxiety during their battle with illness. Research shows that Interactive Music Therapy is extremely effective at the bedside of hospitalized pediatric cancer patients in reducing pain (Thrane, 2013; Huang, Good, Zauszniewski, 2010; Potvin, Bradt, Kesslick, 2015; Naylor, Kingsnorth, Lamont, McKenever, 2011; Tanriverdi, Aydemir, 2013) and anxiety (Callaghan, Dun, Baron, Barry, 2012; Thrane, 2013; Potvin et al., 2015; Docherty, Cherven, Stegenga, Ferguson, Roll, Stickler, Haase, 2012; Robb et al.,. 2008; Kemper, Bouhairie, Martin, Woods 2008; Tanriverdi, Aydemir, 2013). In cancer centers, the demand is quickly growing for adjunctive therapies to support sick children (Barry, O’Callaghan, Wheeler, Grocke, 2010). The purpose of this project is to review and evaluate current evidence surrounding the use of interactive music therapy for pediatric oncology patients. Implications of the research and methods for implementing holistic and interactive nursing care will be explored

Jovens violinistas e a Teoria do Gosto

States of 15C via the (18O,16O) reaction

A study of the 15C states was pursued in 2008 at the Catania INFN-LNS laboratory by the 13C(18O,16O)15C reaction at 84 MeV incident energy. The 16O ejectiles were detected at forward angles by the MAGNEX magnetic spectrometer. Thanks to an innovative technique the ejectiles were identified without the need of time of flight measurements. Exploiting the large momentum acceptance (25%) and solid angle (50 msr) of the spectrometer, the 15C energy spectra were obtained with a quite relevant yield up to about 20 MeV excitation energy. The application of the powerful technique of the trajectory reconstruction did allow to get an energy resolution of about 250 keV FWHM, limited mainly by straggling effects. The spectra show several known low lying states up to about 7 MeV excitation energy as well as two unknown resonant structures at about 11.4 and 13.5 MeV. The strong excitation of these latter together with the measured width of about 2 MeV FWHM could indicate the presence of collective modes of excitation connected to the transfer of a correlated neutron pair

Preliminary study of the 19F(7Li,7Be)19O reaction at 52 MeV with MAGNEX

The 19F(7Li,7Be)19O charge-exchange reaction at 52 MeV incident energy has been performed at INFN-LNS in Catania using the MAGNEX spectrometer. The use of an algebraic ray-reconstruction technique has allowed to extract the 19O excitation energy spectrum and the experimental angular distributions obtained with a single angular setting of the spectrometer

Field reconstruction in large aperture quadrupole magnets

    Get PDF
A technique to interpolate complex three-dimensional field distributions such as those produced by large magnets is presented. It is based on a modified charge density method where the elementary sources of the magnetic field are image charges with Gaussian shape placed on a three-dimensional surface. The strengths of the charges are found as the solution of a best-fit problem, whose special features are discussed in detail. The method is tested against the measured field of the MAGNEX large acceptance quadrupole, showing a high level of accuracy together with an effective compensation of the effect of the experimental errors present in the data. In addition the model field is in general analytical and Maxwellian. As a consequence, the reliability of the presented technique to the challenging problem of trajectory reconstruction in modern large acceptance spectrometers is demonstrated

Bulk and decay properties of neutron-deficient odd-mass Hg isotopes near A=185

Ground and isomeric states of the neutron-deficient odd-A isotopes 183Hg, 185Hg, and 187Hg are described from a microscopic calculation based on a self-consistent, axially deformed Hartree-Fock mean field with the Skyrme functional and pairing within BCS approximation. For each equilibrium shape and different odd-neutron states, results on mean-square charge radii and magnetic dipole moments are given and analyzed in the context of their sensitivity to the nuclear deformation and to the spin and parity. Spin-isospin correlations within proton-neutron quasiparticle random phase approximation are then introduced in the nuclear states to obtain the distributions of Gamow-Teller strength and the beta+/EC half-lives of these isotopes, whose measurements are planned at ISOLDE-CERN using total absorption gamma-ray spectroscopy techniques
