Theoretical progress for the associated production of a Higgs boson with heavy quarks at hadron colliders
The production of a Higgs boson in association with a pair of top-antitop or
bottom-antibottom quarks plays a very important role at both the Tevatron and
the Large Hadron Collider. The theoretical prediction of the corresponding
cross sections has been improved by including the complete next-to-leading
order QCD corrections. After a brief introduction, we review the results

Number of adaptive steps to a local fitness peak
We consider a population of genotype sequences evolving on a rugged fitness
landscape with many local fitness peaks. The population walks uphill until it
encounters a local fitness maximum. We find that the statistical properties of
the walk length depend on whether the underlying fitness distribution has a
finite mean. If the mean is finite, all the walk length cumulants grow with the
sequence length but approach a constant otherwise. Experimental implications of
our analytical results are also discussed

Bee nesting substrate choice can influence habitat use, conservation effort efficacy, and population or landscape-use modeling, but information on nesting sites are often scattered in the literature. Here we bring together the available information on nests of a widespread bee, Anthophora (Clisodon) terminalis Cresson, and describe an unusual new nesting substrate use for this species
A combined molecularâbeam epitaxy and scanning tunneling microscopy system
A combined molecularâbeam epitaxy and scanning tunneling microscopy system has been constructed. The design has been optimized for the study of IIIâV semiconductors with the goal of examining the surface with both in situ scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and reflection highâenergy electron diffraction (RHEED). Using this system, it is possible to quench the growth and produce realâspace images of the surface as it appeared during deposition. Kuiper Binary Object Formation
It has been observed that binary Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs) exist contrary to
theoretical expectations. Their creation presents problems to most current
models. However, the inclusion of a third body (for example, one of the outer
planets) may provide the conditions necessary for the formation of these
objects. The presence of a third massive body not only helps to clear the
primordial Kuiper Belt but can also result in long lived binary Kuiper belt
objects. The gravitational interaction between the KBOs and the third body
causes one of four effects; scattering into the Oort cloud, collisions with the
growing protoplanets, formation of binary pairs, or creation of a single Kuiper
belt object. Additionally, the initial location of the progenitors of the
Kuiper belt objects also has a significant effect on binary formation
Anxious/depressed symptoms are related to microstructural maturation of white matter in typically developing youths
AbstractThere are multiple recent reports of an association between anxious/depressed (A/D) symptomatology and the rate of cerebral cortical thickness maturation in typically developing youths. We investigated the degree to which anxious/depressed symptoms are tied to age-related microstructural changes in cerebral fiber pathways. The participants were part of the NIH MRI Study of Normal Brain Development. Child Behavior Checklist A/D scores and diffusion imaging were available for 175 youths (84 males, 91 females; 241 magnetic resonance imagings) at up to three visits. The participants ranged from 5.7 to 18.4 years of age at the time of the scan. Alignment of fractional anisotropy data was implemented using FSL/Tract-Based Spatial Statistics, and linear mixed model regression was carried out using SPSS. Child Behavior Checklist A/D was associated with the rate of microstructural development in several white matter pathways, including the bilateral anterior thalamic radiation, bilateral inferior longitudinal fasciculus, left superior longitudinal fasciculus, and right cingulum. Across these pathways, greater age-related fractional anisotropy increases were observed at lower levels of A/D. The results suggest that subclinical A/D symptoms are associated with the rate of microstructural development within several white matter pathways that have been implicated in affect regulation, as well as mood and anxiety psychopathology.</jats:p
The low-energy theory for the Bose-Hubbard model and the normal ground state of bosons
A bosonic realization of the SU(2) Lie algebra and of its vector
representation is constructed, and an effective low-energy description of the
Bose-Hubbard model in the form of anisotropic theory of quantum rotors is
proposed and discussed. A possibility of a normal zero-temperature bosonic
phase with neither crystalline nor superfluid order around the tip of the

Sheep productivity in an Astrebla grassland of south-west Queensland
A grazing study conducted between 1979 and 1983 assessed the seasonal trends of ewe productivity in Astrebla grassland in southwestern Queensland. This study was designed originally to compare productivity on two pastures with different compositions, however, these differences in pastures composition were not achieved.
Large differences in liveweight, wool growth and reproductive performance occurred between years in response to differences in pasture growth resulting from large variation in the seasonal incidence of rainfall. Rainfall effective for plant growth, both forbs and grasses, resulted in a high quality diet which resulted, in turn, in increased sheep productivity. Reproductive performance was particularly sensitive to the quality of the ewes diet around the time of lambing through the effect of diet quality on lamb survival and growth rate.
It is suggested that the effect of rainfall on reproductive performance is of greater importance than the yield of forbs present in the pasture
Direct Measurement of the Top Quark Charge at Hadron Colliders
We consider photon radiation in tbar-t events at the upgraded Fermilab
Tevatron and the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as a tool to measure the
electric charge of the top quark. We analyze the contributions of tbar-t-gamma
production and radiative top quark decays to p-p, pbar-p -> gamma l^+/- nu
bbar-b jj, assuming that both b-quarks are tagged. With 20~fb^{-1} at the
Tevatron, the possibility that the ``top quark'' discovered in Run I is
actually an exotic charge -4/3 quark can be ruled out at the 95% confidence
level. At the LHC, it will be possible to determine the charge of the top quark
with an accuracy of about 10%.Comment: Revtex, 24 pages, 2 tables, 9 figure
