On "the authentic damping mechanism" of the phonon damping model

Some general features of the phonon damping model are presented. It is concluded that the fits performed within this model have no physical content

Islamization of West-African radicalism. Research among the youths in the Grand Yoff neighbourhood in Dakar, Senegal

In order to determine the radicalization level of the Muslim society in West Africa and in order to understand the influence coming over radicalized Africans from Islam fundamentalism exporting countries, we conducted a sociologic survey on a target group consisting of 107 Muslim men, aged between 18 and 45, from the popular neighbourhood Grand Yoff in Dakar, Senegal. We surveyed their religiousness and radicalization in correlation with their attitude towards the West and their behaviour in front of various daily life situations. That is because in one of the poorest regions in the world, political claims mix with the social ones and lead to the emergence of social radicalism, on which the Islam overlaps perfectly

Cities for people or the reason for social radicalization? Dakar’s special case

In West Africa, in particular Dakar, Senegal, due to the lack of coherent programs of control of chaotic urbanization, in the popular neighborhoods without any kind of infrastructure, a series of profound crises emerged in the last 15-20 years have led to an unprecedented increase in the differences between urban development levels and, implicitly, social segregation and radicalism. The issue of housing has a major impact on the welfare of the citizen, especially from a social point of view. The home is a private space necessary for personal security and isolation from the world, a space of relaxation and everyday life, one that should provide the necessary comfort for every individual

New particle-hole symmetries and the extended interacting boson model

We describe shape coexistence and intruder many-particle-hole (mp-nh)excitations in the extended interacting boson model EIBM and EIBM-2,combining both the particle-hole and the charge degree of freedom.Besides the concept of I-spin multiplets and subsequently $SU(4)$ multiplets, we touch upon the existence of particle-hole mixed symmetry states. We furthermore describe regular and intrudermany-particle-hole excitations in one nucleus on an equal footing, creating (annihilating) particle-hole pairs using the K-spin operatorand studying possible mixing between these states. As a limiting case,we treat the coupling of two IBM-1 Hamiltonians, each decribing the regular and intruder excitations respectively, in particular lookingat the $U(5)$-$SU(3)$ dynamical symmetry coupling. We apply such coupling scheme to the Po isotopes

Shape coexistence in atomic nuclei and its spectroscopic fingerprints

In the present discussion we concentrate on shape coexistence asobtained within a deformed single-particle field as well as startingfrom the spherical shell-model, incorporating deformationeffects via the residual proton-neutron quadrupole interaction. Wediscuss in particular the appearance of shape coexisting phenomena inthe Pb region. In a second part then, we present a number ofexperimental fingerprints that allow to recognize the appearance ofshape coexisting phenomena or of shape mixing through the use ofselective experiments (e.g. band structure, spectroscopic factors,static moments, E0 properties and alpha-decay)
