Holographic fixing, readout, and storage dynamics in photorefractive materials

    Get PDF
Holographic gratings in photorefractive crystals that are based on charge redistribution inevitably decay as a result of ionic and electronic conduction. Under certain and restricted conditions these decay times can be acceptably long. Relevant decay rates and transient hologram field expressions are derived with special reference to LiNbO3. Some experimental data are presented

A Modeling Study of the Initial Formation of Polar Lows in the Vicinity of the Arctic Front

    Get PDF
A regional mathematical model of the wind system of the lower atmosphere, developed recently in the Polar Geophysical Institute, is applied to investigate the initial stage of the formation of polar lows at latitudes of the European Arctic. The mathematical model is based on numerical solving of nonsimplified gas dynamic equations and produces three-dimensional distributions of the atmospheric parameters in the height range from 0 to 15 km over a limited region of the Earth’s surface. Simulation results indicated that the origin of a convexity in the configuration of the arctic front can lead to the formation of a polar low during the period of about one day

    Get PDF
The article presents results of development of a mathematical model of nonstationary hydraulic processes in gas centrifuge cascade for separation of multicomponent isotope mixtures. This model was used for the calculation parameters of gas centrifuge cascade for separation of silicon isotopes. Comparison of obtained values with results of other authors revealed that developed mathematical model is adequate to describe nonstationary hydraulic processes in gas centrifuge cascades for separation of multicomponent isotope mixtures

    Get PDF
The article presents results of research filling gas centrifuge cascade by process gas fed into different stages. The modeling of filling cascade was done for nickel isotope separation. Analysis of the research results shows that nickel isotope concentrations of light and heavy fraction flows after filling cascade depend on feed stage number

Symbolic Dynamics in the Free-Fall Equal-Mass Three-Body Problem

    Get PDF
The paper has been presented at the 12th International Conference on Applications of Computer Algebra, Varna, Bulgaria, June, 2006Free-fall equal-mass three-body systems are numerically studied using symbolic dynamics. We scan the two-dimensional homology map of initial configurations in steps of 0.001 along both axes. States of binary and triple encounters as well as changes of configuration are used to construct symbolic sequences. Symbolic sequences are characterized by Shannon and Markov entropies. Different ergodic components corresponding to different distinct peaks on the histograms of these entropies are revealed

Interlayer tunneling spectroscopy of graphite at high magnetic field oriented parallel to the layers

Interlayer tunneling in graphite mesa-type structures is studied at a strong in-plane magnetic field HH up to 55 T and low temperature T=1.4T=1.4 K. The tunneling spectrum dI/dVdI/dV vs. VV has a pronounced peak at a finite voltage V0V_0. The peak position V0V_0 increases linearly with HH. To explain the experiment, we develop a theoretical model of graphite in the crossed electric EE and magnetic HH fields. When the fields satisfy the resonant condition E=vHE=vH, where vv is the velocity of the two-dimensional Dirac electrons in graphene, the wave functions delocalize and give rise to the peak in the tunneling spectrum observed in the experiment.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures; corresponds to the published version in Eur. VNS-BASED ALGORITHMS FOR THE CENTROID-BASED CLUSTERING PROBLEM

    Get PDF
The k-means algorithm with the corresponding problem formulation is one of the first methods that researchers use when solving a new automatic grouping (clus-tering) problem. Its improvement, modification and combination with other algorithms are described in the works of many researchers. In this research, we propose new al-gorithms of the Greedy Heuristic Method, which use an idea of the search in variable neighborhoods for solving the classical cluster analysis problem, and allows us to obtain a more accurate and stable result of solving in comparison with the known algorithms. Our computational experiments show that the new algorithms allow us to obtain re-sults with better values of the objective function value (sum of squared distances) in comparison with classical algorithms such as k-means, j-means and genetic algorithms on various practically important datasets. In addition, we present the first results for the GPU realization of the Greedy Heuristic Method

Dynamics and configurations of galaxy triplets

    Get PDF
The purpose is to infer the probable dynamical states of galaxy triplets by the observed data on their configurations. Two methods are proposed for describing the distributions of the triplet configuration parameters characterizing a tendency to alignment and hierarchy: (1) obtaining a representative sample of configurations and determining its statistical parameters (moments and percentages); and (2) dividing the region of possible configurations of triple systems (Agekian and Anosova, 1967) into a set of segments and finding the probabilities for the configurations to find themselves in each of them. Both these methods allow representation of the data by numerical simulations as well as observations. The effect of projection was studied. It rather overestimates the alignment and hierarchy of the triple systems. Among the parameters of interest there are found some parameters that are least sensitive to projection effects. The samples consist of simulated galaxy triplets (with hidden mass) as well as of 46 probably physical triple galaxies (Karachentseva et al., 1979). The observed triples as well as numerical models show a tendency to alignment. The triple galaxies do not show any tendency to hierarchy (formation of the temporary binaries), but this tendency may be present for simulated triplets without significant dark matter. The significant hidden mass (of order ten times the total mass of a triplet) decreases the probability of forming a binary and so weakens the hierarchy. Small galaxy groups consisting of 3 to 7 members are probably the most prevalent types of galaxy aggregate (Gorbatsky, 1987). Galaxy triplets are the simplest groups, but dynamically nontrivial ones

Modeling of high energy impact on ice in taking into account the temperature

    Get PDF
In this paper, the problems deep penetration of compact impactors into the ice, taking into account different temperatures were solved. The behavior of ice is described by the basic system equations of continuum mechanics, i.e., the equations of continuity, momentum and energy in the lagrangian approach. Medium are compressible, isotropic, no mass forces, internal sources of heat and thermal conductivity. Medium also includethe shockwave phenomena, as well as formation “spall” and “shear” damage. The stress tensor is divided into deviatoric and spherical components. Equation of statewas chosen in the form of Walsh. The components of the stress tensor deviator located on the elasticplastic flow model based on the equations of Prandtl-Reis associated with von Mises yield criterion. Initial impactor velosity was varied atfrom 50 to 325 m/s. Numerical simulation results showed the influence of temperature of the ice to the depth of penetration of the impactors

Research of a third-order nonlinear differential equation in the vicinity of a moving singular point for a complex plane

    Get PDF
This article generalizes the previously obtained results of existence and uniqueness theorems for the solution of a third-order nonlinear differential equation in the vicinity of moving singular points in the complex domain, as well as constructs an analytical approximate solution, and obtains a priori estimates of the error of this approximate solution. The study was carried out using the modified method of majorants to solve this equation, which differs from the classical theory, in which this method is applied to the right-hand side of the equation The final point of the article is to conduct a numerical experiment to test the theoretical positions obtained
