Single crystals of GaSe were grown from the melt using 3-zone vertical Bridgman-Stockbarger system. In order to determine the doping effect, nitrogen and silicon ions were implanted to the grown crystals. Surface morphology and stoichiometry were examined using scanning electron microscope equipped with EDAX and structure properties were examined by x-ray diffraction technique. It was observed that the resulting ingot was stoichiometric and the structure was hexagonal. To identify the effects of ion implantation on the physical properties of the samples depending on annealing; electrical conductivity, hall measurements, current-voltage characteristics, photoconductivity and photoluminescence measurements were carried out in the temperature range of 100-450 K. Also spectral transmission measurements were carried out for all the samples at room temperature. It was observed that both N- and Si- implantation followed by annealing process decreased the resisitivity values from 107 to 103 (?-cm). Temperature dependent conductivity measurements were analyzed to deduce the dominant transport mechanisms. The trap levels were also investigated by the space charge limited currents (SCLC) measurements. The temperature dependence of hole concentrations showed that as-grown, N- and Si-implanted samples behave as partially compensated p-type semiconductors. Using suitable statistical method, transport parameters such as acceptor level, donor and acceptor concentrations were extracted from the experimental data. Trapping centers and recombination mechanisms were determined from the temperature dependent photoconductivity measurements by investigating the relation between photocurrent and illumination intensity. N- and Si- implantation effects on GaSe were also examined by spectral photoconductivity and transmission measurements. And lastly, radiative recombination mechanisms inPh.D. - Doctoral Progra

Structural and electrical properties of TlGa(SxSe1-x)2 mixed crystals

    No full text
Systematic investigations of crystal structure, electrical conductivity and photoconductivity have been carried out on the complete series of TlGa(SxSe1-x)2 solid solutions. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses together with TREOR90 computer program have revealed that this compound shows different structural modifications at each composition. The possible charge transfer mechanisms have been investigated by performing temperature dependent electrical conductivity measurements in the temperature range of 100-400 K for different values of x. Information about the band gap of these composite solution have been investigated by means of spectral distribution of photocurrent as a function of x. Temperature dependent photoconductivity behaviour and characteristics of the recombination centers have also been investigated by measuring photocurrent at various illumination intensities and applied electric fields in the studied temperature range. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. The (1E, 2E)-(4-bromophenyl)(hydroxyimino)acetaldehyde oxime complexes, [ML2], M = Co(II), Cu(II), and Ni(II), were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, FT-IR spectra, and thermal analysis techniques. The optical band gap of this ligand and its complexes were determined by UV-vis spectrophotometer in the wavelength range 300–800 nm. A decrease in the energy band gap of the [CoL2], [NiL2], and [CuL2] complexes has been observed compared with LH ligand. Temperature-dependent conductivity measurements showed that all samples behave like semiconductor. Activation energies calculated from Arrhenius plots showed that the conduction occurs via both intramolecular and the intermolecular processes

    No full text
In this study, semiconducting thin films of undoped and In doped CdSe have been deposited by conventional thermal evaporation technique on cold glass substrates. The structural and electrical properties of the films have been investigated by means of XRD, SEM, temperature dependent electrical conductivity and Hall Effect measurements. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated preferential orientation in the (002) direction. XRD and SEM measurements presented an increase of grain size from 26 to 29 nm with In doping. Conductivity measurements showed that In doping causes an increase in conductivity around four orders of magnitude. Information about the band gap of these films has been investigated by means of spectral distribution of photocurrent and absorption measurements. The band gap energies calculated from photoconductivity measurements and compared with results deduced from absorption spectra. © 2014, National Institute R and D of Materials Physics. The conductivity, mobility, photoconductivity and photo response measurements in GaS0.75Se0.25 mixed crystals were carried out in the temperature range of 150-450 K. The room temperature conductivity, mobility and electron concentration values were 10(-9) (Omega-cm)(-1), 48 cm(2)V(-1) s(-1) and similar to 10(9) cm(-3), respectively. Two donor levels were obtained from temperature-dependent conductivity and carrier concentration, located at energies of about 755 and 465 meV below the conduction band. Single donor-single acceptor analysis yields the same donor level at 465 meV with donor and acceptor concentrations of 8.7x10(14) and 5.3x10(13) cm(-3), respectively. The mobility-temperature dependence shows that ionized impurity scattering dominates the conduction up to the temperature 3 10 K with different temperature exponent, while above this critical temperature; the phonon scattering is dominant conduction mechanism. From the photo-response spectra, the maximum photocurrent was observed for all the samples at 2.42 eV, and varied slightly with temperature. Moreover, the photocurrent-light intensity dependence in these crystals obeys the power law, I-ph proportional to phi(gamma) with gamma between 1.7 and 2.0 for various applied fields and temperatures. Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma of the nasopharynx

    No full text
Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcomas of the nasopharynx are rare tumours; only seven cases have been reported in the English language medical literature. The authors present an eighth case, which occurred in a 70-year-old woman whose main complaint was nasal obstruction. It has been more than 10 years since FDC sarcoma was reported to occur in extranodal sites, and clinical and pathological characteristics of extranodal FDC sarcomas remain to be defined. The lack of a high index of suspicion is the main reason for misdiagnosis. The authors point out the difficulties in the diagnosis and management of this rare condition

A RARE COMPLICATION AFTER REPAIRING TEMPORAL LOBE HERNIATION INTO MASTOID CAVITY: NON-CONVULSIVE STATUS EPILEPTICUS

    No full text
The aim of this study is to present the case of an 18-year-old male who developed non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) after the operation for temporal lobe herniation. The herniation of meningeal and brain tissues into the middle ear and mastoid cavity is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition. Temporal lobe herniation might occur after otologic surgeries which are often related with an iatrogenic bony defect of tegmen tympani. NCSE can be defined as prolonged seizure activity and is an extremely rare complication of otological surgeries. To our knowledge, this is the first case for NCSE which developed after otologic surgery in the literature
