This is an assessment of the Youth Centers (YC) of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) in Turkey. The users evaluated the youth centers considering the physical environments as well as the activities and programs offered by the centers in educational, pedagogical, social, psychological, physiological and relaxing terms. The sample of the study consists of YC users in Diyarbakır, Kırıkkale, Kocaeli, Trabzon, and Van. A total of 561 volunteers, 359 (64%) of whom were women and 202 (36%) were men, (mean age 16-19 (38.5%)) participated in the study voluntarily. In addition to the personal information form, as the data collection tool, a scale designed by the researchers for the measurement of users’ attitudes towards youth centers was employed. The scale was developed from the “Leisure Satisfaction Scale (LSS) designed by Beard and Ragheb (1980). When the results regarding the attitudes of users towards YCs were evaluated, the highest mean was found to be in the psychological sub-factor (x = 3.84 ± 1.11). The results of the T-test analysis showed that male users evaluated the YCs more positively than female users in the physiological sub-factor (p<0,05). ANOVA and Tukey analyses were performed to see whether there were significant differences between the provinces where the research was conducted. The users in Kırıkkale and Kocaeli, in general, have more positive attitudes towards educational, social, relaxing, physiological aspects of the programs and activities and physical environments of the youth centers than those in Van and Trabzon particularly (p<0,05)

This study compared the somatotype values of football players according to their playing positions. The study aimed to determine the physical profiles of players and to analyze the relationships between somatotypes and playing positions. Study participants were members of two teams in the Turkey Professional Football League, Gençlerbirligi Sports Team (GB) (N=24) and Gençlerbirligi Oftas Sports Team (GBO) (N=24). Anthropometric measurements of the players were performed according to techniques suggested by the Anthropometric Standardization Reference Manual (ASRM) and International Biological Program (IBP). In somatotype calculations, triceps, subscapular, supraspinale and calf skinfold thickness, humerus bicondylar, femur bicondylar, biceps circumference, calf circumference and body weight and height were used. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the Graph Pad prism Version 5.00 for Windows (Graph Pad Software, San Diego California USA); somatotype calculations and analyses used the Somatotype 1.1 program and graphical representations of the results were produced. Analysis of non-parametric (two independent samples) Mann-Whitney U Test of the player data showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the two teams. The measurements indicated that, when all of the GB and GBO players were evaluated collectively, their average somatotypes were balanced mesomorph. The somatotypes of GBO goalkeepers were generally ectomorphic mesomorph; GB goalkeepers were balanced mesomorphic, although they were slightly endomorphic

    Get PDF
In this study, we have used a newly modified Ishikawa iteration method and the Haar wavelet method to solve an ordinary linear differential equation with initial conditions. Using the modified Ishikawa iteration approach, we derive approximate solutions to the issue as well as the related iterative schemes. For this problem, the Ishikawa Iteration Method is applied for different lambda and gamma values and approximation solutions for these values are compared with the approximate solution of Haar wavelet collocation and its exact solution. Finally, the error tables are written and the graphs are shown

Today ethical principles and social responsibility projects proved to be for hotels where human resources are the major factors for the success at the industry. E-marketing is one of the widespread method for taking the advantage in such a kind of competitive environment. In this case, social responsibility projects and ethical principles that are implemented by the businesses have been very important as a part of marketing strategies in recent years. Moreover, websites play an important role as intermediary body of marketing strategies as well. Therefore, sharing ethical principles and social responsibility projects via websites is the key factor of effective marketing strategy. The purpose of this research is to determine the extent to which 5 star hotels in Istanbul pay attention to share their ethical principles and social responsibility projects on their websites. For this purpose, the websites of 83 hotels in Istanbul have been examined by applying content analysis. The findings showed that only 25 of the selected hotels were interested in sharing their social and ethical values on their websites. In addition, the topic of ethical principles gained from the websites of 5 star hotels has been examined and social responsibility acts with their eight sub-categories has been evaluated separately. It was found that the hotels supported the projects related the most with education and the least with animals on their websites

English has gained a significant role in technological, business, economic or political areas and has been a part of educational policies in different countries. However, many learners of English have difficulties in learning and using the language effectively due to a number of reasons. Accordingly, a descriptive study was conducted in order to investigate what kind of foreign language (English) learning problems the middle school students experience in Turkey. A total of 164 (92 female and 72 male) middle school students (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade) in 4 public schools in Sakarya, Turkey participated in the study. The data were collected through an open-ended question and semi-structured interviews. The collected data were analyzed and coded thematically. The results have indicated that middle school students mostly face linguistic, instructional, affective barriers as well as lack of assistance and useful resource. Considering the findings, some possible reasons and suggestions were also provided to help teachers and learners overcome the relevant barriers in learning English as a foreign language (EFL) in Turke

The EGFR gene and ALK rearrangements are two genetic drivers of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The frequency of EGFR mutations and ALK rearrangement varies according to not only ethnicity but also gender, smoking status and the histological type of NSCLC. In the present study, we demonstrated the distribution of EGFR mutations in 132 NSCLC patients by using a pyrosequencing technique and the distribution of ALK rearrangements in 51 NSCLC patients by using fluorescent in situ hybridization technique in Turkey. Additionally, we compared the clinicopathological data of NSCLC patients with the mutation status of EGFR in their cancerous tissues. Both EGFR mutations and ALK rearrangements were identified in 19 (14.39 %) and 1 (1.96 %) patients, respectively. We found EGFR mutations in codon 861, 719 and 858 with the ratios of 10.52 % (2/19), 10.52 % (2/19) and 31.58 % (6/19), respectively, and deletion of exon 19 in 47.37 % (9/19) of the patients. We found the frequency of EGFR mutations to be significantly higher in female patients and nonsmokers (p = 0.043, p = 0.027, respectively). Consequently, we found EGFR mutations to be more frequent in female patients and nonsmokers. Future studies on larger patient groups would provide more accurate data to exhibit the relationship between EGFR mutations and ALK rearrangements and the clinicopathological status

    Get PDF
We study the new conservation forms of the nonlinear fin equation in mathematical physics. In this study, first, Lie point symmetries of the fin equation are identified and classified. Then by using the relationship of Lie symmetry and λ-symmetry, new λ-functions are investigated. In addition, the Jacobi Last Multiplier method and the approach, which is based on the fact λ-functions are assumed to be of linear form, are considered as different procedures for lambda symmetry analysis. Finally, the corresponding new conservation laws and invariant solutions of the equation are presented
