Visserij in cijfers 2009
Deze jaarlijkse rapportage over de Nederlandse visserij bevat gegevens over de bedrijfsresultaten en financiële positie van de kottervisserij in 2008 met ramingen voor 2009, en met vergelijkende cijfers van voorgaande jaren. Naast de bedrijfseconomische gegevens van de kottervisserij wordt ook ingegaan op uitkomsten van de overige kleine zeevisserijvloot, op resultaten van de grote zeevisserij, de mosselcultuur en de oestersector en daarnaast ook op ontwikkelingen in de handel in visproducten met het buitenland. Over de visteeltsector wordt niet gerapporteerd vanwege gebrek aan actuele gegevens. This annual report about Dutch fisheries contains data about the business results and financial position of cutter fisheries in 2008, with estimates for 2009 and comparative figures from previous years. Besides economic data relating to cutter fisheries, the report also studies the net results of the other small high seas fishing fleet, the results of large high seas fisheries, mussel farming and the oyster sector, as well as developments in international trade in fish products. The report does not address the fish farming sector due to lack of current data

This paper describes the characteristics, costs and revenues of the so-called noncommercial small-scale fleet based on a survey sent to all the skippers owning a vessel that according to the LEI definition falls within the category of non-commercial small-scale fisheries. With this data the economic importance of this part of the fleet can be determined
Fishing activities on the Frisian Front and the Cleaver Bank; Historic developments and effects of management
In 2008, the Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality notified four proposed Sites of Community Interest (pSCIs) to the European Commission (for protection as Special Conservation Areas (SCAs) under the Habitats Directive). These areas are the Dogger Bank, Cleaver Bank, the Coastal Zone and the Vlakte van de Raan. The areas have been chosen for their specific habitats and ecological values (Bos et al., 2008). In addition, the Frisian Front will be designated as SPA (Special Protection Area) under the Bird Directive. Based on this decision a process has been executed during the last four years for the development of the provisions of this Directive in Dutch legislation and policy, namely the North Sea Natura 2000 project. LEI facilitated this process by making an initial inventory of the fishing activities of both Dutch and foreign fleets in these areas (Van Oostenbrugge et al., 2010). The current status is that for the areas in the coastal zone, management measures have been finalised and implemented. In the Dutch exclusive economic zone the state of play is that for the Dogger Bank, Cleaver Bank and the Frisian Front management proposals are being prepared for decision making in the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) context. Designating these areas under national law requires the Nature Protection Act to enter into force in the Dutch EEZ. This has been discussed in parliament (on 13 June 2012). Some questions remain on the importance of these areas for the Dutch fisheries and the economic consequences of management measures. The consequences of the management regime for the Dogger Bank are estimated by the ICES in the international process of the Dogger Bank Steering Group. The ministry of Economic Affairs has asked LEI to update the report from 2010 for the Frisian Front and the Cleaver Bank. Because a large part of the Belgian, UK and German flagged vessels are owned by Dutch companies, those fishing fleets are also taken into account in the current study

Naast de bedrijfseconomische gegevens van de kottervisserij, wordt ook ingegaan op resultaten van de grote zeevis-serij, de mosselcultuur, belangrijke onderdelen van de visteeltsector en daarnaast ook ontwikkelingen in de buitenlandse handel in visproducten. This annual report on Dutch fisheries contains data on the business results and the fi-nancial position of cutter fishing in 2006 and an outlook for 2007, with comparative figures from previous years. Oorzaken voor de achteruitgang in de Nederlandse Visteelt
De visteelt in Nederland heeft het zwaar de afgelopen jaren. Naar aanleiding van een vraag van Landbouw Natuurbeheer en Voedselkwaliteit onderzocht he Landbouw Economisch Instituut (LEI), in samenwerking met IMARES en externe deskundigen de oorzaken van de achteruitgang. Tijdens de NGVA bijeenkomst van 21 januari 2010 in Wageningen werden de voorlopige resultaten gepresenteerd. Belangrijke elementen zijn de toegenomen concurrentie van importproducten, hoge kosten en een gebrek aan ondernemerschap. Prediction of final infarct volume from native CT perfusion and treatment parameters using deep learning
CT Perfusion (CTP) imaging has gained importance in the diagnosis of acute
stroke. Conventional perfusion analysis performs a deconvolution of the
measurements and thresholds the perfusion parameters to determine the tissue
status. We pursue a data-driven and deconvolution-free approach, where a deep
neural network learns to predict the final infarct volume directly from the
native CTP images and metadata such as the time parameters and treatment. This
would allow clinicians to simulate various treatments and gain insight into
predicted tissue status over time. We demonstrate on a multicenter dataset that
our approach is able to predict the final infarct and effectively uses the
metadata. An ablation study shows that using the native CTP measurements
instead of the deconvolved measurements improves the prediction.Comment: Accepted for publication in Medical Image Analysi
Estimating the Magnitude of Genetic Factors by Calculating the Genetic Relative Risk of Stroke in First-Ever Lacunar Stroke Patients
BACKGROUND: Positive family history of stroke is an independent risk factor for lacunar stroke. However, the magnitude of familial aggregation of a certain disease is better evaluated by the genetic relative risk. This is calculated by dividing the prevalence of specific disease in family members of patients by the prevalence of this disease in the general population. In a cohort of lacunar stroke patients, who were subtyped clinically and radiologically, we determined the genetic relative risk of stroke. METHODS: By questionnaire and additional interview, we obtained a complete first-degree family history of stroke. The prevalence of stroke in first-degree relatives of these lacunar stroke patients was compared to the self-reported prevalence of stroke in a Dutch community based cohort of elderly volunteers. Secondly, the influence of proband characteristics and family composition on parental and sibling history of stroke were evaluated. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We collected data of 1066 first-degree relatives of 195 lacunar stroke patients. Strokes occurred in 13.5% of first-degree relatives. The genetic relative risk was 2.94 (95%CI 2.45-3.53) for overall first-degree relatives, 4.52 (95%CI 3.61-5.65) for patients' parents and 2.10 (95%CI 1.63-2.69) for patients' siblings. Age of proband and proband status for hypertension influenced the chance of having a parent with a history of stroke whereas the likelihood of having a concordant sibling increased with sibship size. CONCLUSIONS: We found an increased genetic relative risk of stroke in first-degree relatives of patients with lacunar stroke.
