In many business domains, rapid changes have occurred as a consequence of digital innovation, i.e., the application of novel information technologies to achieve specific business goals. A domain where digital innovation has great potential is smart mobility, which aims at moving around large sets of people and goods in a specific geographic setting in an efficient and effective way. So far, many innovations in this domain have concentrated on relatively isolated, technology-driven developments, such as smart route planning for individual travelers. Nice as they are, they have relatively small impact on mobility on a large scale. To achieve substantial digital innovations – for example, optimizing commuting on a city-scale – it is necessary to align the efforts and related values of a spectrum of stakeholders that need to collaborate in a common business model. To this aim, the study proposes the use of service-dominant business logic, which emphasizes the interaction of value network partners as they co-create value through collaborative processes. Moving to this paradigm has significant implications on the way business is done: the business requirements for services will change faster, and the complexity of value networks required to meet these requirements will increase further. This requires new approaches to business engineering that are grounded in the premises of service-dominant logic. The paper introduces the service-dominant business model radar (SDBM/R) as an integral component of a business engineering framework. Following a design science approach, the SDBM/R has been developed in close collaboration with industry experts and evaluated through an extensive series of hands-on workshops with industry professionals from several business domains. This paper focuses on the application and evaluation in the smart mobility domain, addressing the design of new business models for digital innovation of collaborative transport of people and goods. In summary, it contributes a novel business design approach that has an academic background and relevant practical embedding

Background: As a result of factors such as digitization and rapid technology change, organizations are compelled to innovate their business models at an accelerated pace. While the domain of business model innovation has focused on understanding and structuring the process of innovation, it offers limited guidance for evaluating business models during the innovation process. Business model evaluation plays a vital role in supporting decision-making about the performance or viability of new business models and motivating continued investments. Existing literature on methods for business model evaluation and their application is limited and available information is scattered. Furthermore, as the BMI process covers a broad spectrum of activities - from business model initiation to implementation - the evaluation challenges and the effectiveness of evaluation methods vary across the phases of innovation. Thus, there is a need for a better understanding on methods for business model evaluation, and their timing and application for business model innovation. Method: Through a systematic literature review, we have investigated the methods available for business model evaluation and focused on understanding their characteristics and effective timing of application in the business model innovation process. Results: We have identified six groups of methods used for business model evaluation. Additionally, we find that early phase business model evaluation is predominantly qualitative in nature, whereas late phases of business model innovation are generally supported through quantitatively-oriented methods. Moreover, we observe that limited evaluation support is available in the literature to support the initiation phase of business model innovation. Based on our findings, we propose a guiding structure for aligning the available methods with the respective innovation phases. Conclusion: The proposed guiding structure offers guidance for business model evaluation in practice and serves as a basis for future research in developing more effective methods and tools for business model evaluation and development

Evaluating the Design of Service-Dominant Business Models: A Qualitative Method

Background: Driven by factors such as digitization and rapid technological change, many contemporary organizations adopt a service orientation to sustain competitiveness and to improve their value propositions to customers. In doing so, organizations typically engage in collaborative service ecosystems to co-create value and exchange services, and conceptualize such collaborations using business models. The resulting models should be evaluated to support the development of service ecosystems and their long- term viability. Despite academic efforts on the evaluation of traditional, organization- centric business models, limited research is present supporting the evaluation of service- dominant business models, taking into account their key characteristics, such as service exchange and value co-creation in business networks. Method: Following a design science research methodology, we have iteratively designed a method addressing the qualitative evaluation of service-dominant business models, building on and integrating the theory on service-dominant logic, business model design and business model evaluation. To structure the steps of the design process, we leverage a situational method engineering approach, following a paradigm-based strategy. To evaluate the validity and utility our method, we have applied it to a real-life business case in the mobility domain, involving eight industry stakeholders in the process. Results: The method constitutes a set of guiding questions and a procedural description of their use, addressing the evaluation concerns of feasibility, viability, structural validity and robustness with respect to the service-dominant business model. The results of the evaluation demonstrate that the use of the method facilitates users to reflect qualitatively on design decision with respect the business model design and offers insights on its expected performance. Conclusions: This work contributes to extant research on service systems engineering and the instantiation of service-dominant logic, clarifying how service ecosystems can be evaluated through the business model concept and explicating how business models are impacted through service-dominant logic

TÜBİTAK EEEAG Proje01.04.2016The main purpose of the research project was to develop an agility maturity model and a toolbox in order to carry out agile software development processes compatible with manifesto for agile software development in software organizations in an effective and integrated way. “Agility maturity model” is defined as “agility assessment reference model” in such a way that the properties its name provides remain the same. In the scope of the project, the studies conducted are as follows: a) Development of AgilityMod agility assessment reference model: For the development of the model, the meta-structure of ISO 15504 process assessment reference models is taken as basis. Instead of process structure and practices of ISO 15504, new aspects and special practices are defined. Therefore, the model is suitable for agile process architecture and includes all components which are necessary for any assessment model. b) Development of assessment software: In order to facilitate and popularize the AgilityMod, a software is developed. c) Validation of the model in software organizations: AgilityMod is applied with the case studies in 9 different organizations and positive feedbacks are gathered. d) Introduction of the model in national and international conferences: The studies conducted during the project were published as 3 international conferences papers and presented in an educational workshop of a national conference. Additionally, 1 of the studies is accepted to be published in an international journal in 2016 and 2 of the studies are accepted to be presented in two international conferences

Today, more and more organizations are adopting agile methodologies to their software development processes. However, this adoption process is not straightforward due to the extensive knowledge and effort required. Currently, most agile adopters use assessments at a regular basis to understand the extent of their agility and to determine the success of their agile adoption. There have been many studies conducted about agile assessment models in the literature. Still, these models require significant time and effort to apply. The amounts of time and effort required to perform agility assessment with defined agility assessment models could be decreased with tool usage. However, existing agility assessment tools do not meet expected criteria for organizations to determine their agility. Therefore, there is a need for a generic agility assessment tool that automates and guides the agility assessment process fully and is reachable for all organizations through the web infrastructure. In this thesis, an agility assessment approach supported with an automated web-based agility assessment tool is developed. The study first explores the existing agility assessment tools, then examines the most prominent features of those tools, deducts expected criteria from the features, and evaluates the tools based on the expected criteria. After that the study presents an exemplar agility assessment process that defines the rules to perform and agility assessment with a comprehensive agility assessment reference model. Then, presents the requirements and design of the tool. Afterwards, the details of a multiple case study that conducted to evaluate the tool is presented. Finally, conclusion and future work is given with details. M.S. - Master of Scienc

[EN] In this consistently growing world, there seems to exist one particular question which is quite simple yet extremely complex to respond to: Should governments intervene with economic activities and dictate the utilization of resources? Throughout history, there have been numerous points of view asserted by economists in order to eliminate the confusion about the meaning and the source of value. Although it has been rather complicated to agree on a conventional truth and to come up with a universal solution, the importance of sustaining the discussion is eminently indispensable. Furthermore, to be able to understand different factors and rationalize different decisions it is important to have a descriptive knowledge about the economy and different perspectives it contains. Therefore, this study aims to investigate and, if possible, relate economic advancements and corrosions with actions taken by states after a brief historical and didactical research on economics. In other words, the main intent is to discuss the effects and adequacy of government-led interventions by having the 'Economic freedom of the world' index and other historic information as a base while comparing two countries that have had political, historical and economic similarities.Doguslu, EO.
