SmartSpaces: aware of users, preferences, behavioursandhabits, in a non-invasive approach
The aim of this work is to take advantage of emerging technologies available in the market that support the so called wearable devices, and the non-invasive particularity of these to, in an autonomous way, adapt the
environment to the comfort parameters of each user (e.g. thermal, acoustic, air quality, light, sun exposure).
Provide comfort according to the preferences of each individual, is a challenge and an opportunity to create innovative solutions and new paradigms in the context of Intelligent Environments.
Currently this challenge has as main difficulties, the people’s mobility, the disparity of habits, schedules and

Manage users and spaces security constraints on a multi-agent system in a adaptive environment system
Nowadays managing user preferences and local actuators specifications is an actual
problem on IoT adaptive systems. This paper proposes a multi-agent system to achieve a Smart
Environment System, that manages the interaction between persons and physical spaces, where
spaces smartly adapt to user preferences in a transparent way. With this work, we also propose
a set of security customization to secure actuators and users present in managed spaces, that
has been developed using a multi-agent system architecture with different features to achieve a

Landau Gauge Fixing on GPUs and String Tension
We explore the performance of CUDA in performing Landau gauge fixing in
Lattice QCD, using the steepest descent method with Fourier acceleration. The
code performance was tested in a Tesla C2070, Fermi architecture. We also
present a study of the string tension at finite temperature in the confined
phase. The string tension is extracted from the color averaged free energy and

In this work, we consider the GPU implementation of the steepest descent
method with Fourier acceleration for Laudau gauge fixing, using CUDA. The
performance of the code in a Tesla C2070 GPU is compared with a parallel CPU

This paper describes the process of planning, reasoning
and modeling of a Smart Environment with domestic and
industrial application, taking advantage of emerging wearable
devices on the market (smart watches, fitness trackers, etc.) and
newer wireless communication technologies (NFC, BLE, Wi-Fi
Direct). Enabling in a noninvasive way for the user, optimize
the efficiency, comfort, and safety at the environments.
This approach can be applied in home automation, public
spaces and also incorporated at industrial level, to help build

Using ICT to support reflection in pre-service mathematics teacher education
This paper analyses a virtual supervision setting (e-mail and forum) during the practicum in a pre-service secondary school mathematics teacher education program. It is a study of the authors’ own professional practice using a qualitative-interpretative approach and case studies of student teachers. The results show that the setting was significant for pre-service teachers who had a more reflective attitude, but was seen as a burden by the others. The forum enabled fruitful reflections and discussions and e-mail was mostly used for organizational matters. In the future, attention must be paid to the role of the educational supervisor in fostering participation in the forum and use of e-mail.Este artigo analisa um dispositivo de supervisão virtual (e-mail e fórum) durante o estágio num curso de formação inicial de professores de Matemática do ensino secundário. É um estudo dos autores sobre a sua própria prática profissional usando uma abordagem qualitativa e interpretativa e estudos de casos de futuros professores. Os resultados mostram que o dispositivo foi significativo para os futuros professores que tinham uma atitude mais reflexiva mas foi visto como um “peso” pelos outros futuros professores. O fórum permitiu reflexões frutuosas e discussões e o e-mail foi principalmente usado para matérias organizacionais. No futuro, deve ser dada atenção ao papel do supervisor educacional em promover a participação no fórum e o uso do e-mail

Smart environment: using a multi-agent system to manage users and spaces preferences conflicts
In this new technological era of the Internet of Things (IoT), people search for comfort and everything that can simplify their daily lives. This paper proposes a smart environment to help achieve this purpose. The problem or challenge, which aims to overcome this, can be defined in general terms as a contribution to creating intelligent environments capable of adapting to the user’s comfort, needs, and preferences in an automatic, transparent, and non-invasive way, whether these environments are for domestic, professional, or public use. We propose the use of a multi-agent system to achieve the management of the user’s preferences, as well as any preference conflicts that may naturally exist. In this way, the space can adapt smartly to the present user’s preferences in a transparent and non-invasive way. This solution also supports the user’s mobility between different spaces and at different times, making it a fully ubiquitous solution, and consequently, an Ambient Intelligence (AmI) solution. We have developed a complete specification of an architecture that supports the proposed solution.
