Epitaxial growth and transport properties of Nb-doped SrTiO thin films
Nb-doped SrTiO epitaxial thin films have been prepared on (001)
SrTiO substrates using pulsed laser deposition. A high substrate
temperature () was found to be necessary to achieve
2-dimensional growth. Atomic force microscopy reveals atomically flat surfaces
with 3.9 \AA steps. The films show a metallic behavior, residual
resistivity ratios between 10 and 100, and low residual resistivity of the
order of 10cm. At 0.3 K, a sharp superconducting transition,
reaching zero resistance, is observed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Phase diagram at finite temperature and quark density in the strong coupling limit of lattice QCD for color SU(3)
We study the phase diagram of quark matter at finite temperature (T) and
finite chemical potential (mu) in the strong coupling limit of lattice QCD for
color SU(3). We derive an analytical expression of the effective free energy as
a function of T and mu, including baryon effects. The finite temperature
effects are evaluated by integrating over the temporal link variable exactly in
the Polyakov gauge with anti-periodic boundary condition for fermions. The
obtained phase diagram shows the first order phase transition at low
temperatures and the second order phase transition at high temperatures
separated by the tri-critical point in the chiral limit. Baryon has effects to
reduce the effective free energy and to extend the hadron phase to a larger mu
direction at low temperatures.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figure
Measurement of Single and Double Spin-Flip Probabilities in Inelastic Deuteron Scattering on 12C at 270 MeV
The deuteron single and double spin-flip probabilities, S1 and S2, have been
measured for the 12C(pol{d},pol{d}') reaction at Ed = 270 MeV for an excitation
energy range between 4 and 24 MeV and a scattering angular range between
Theta_lab = 2.5 and 7.5 deg. The extracted S1 exhibits characteristic values
depending on the structure of the excited state. The S2 is close to zero over
the measured excitation energy range. The SFP angular distribution data for the
2+ (4.44 MeV) and 1+ (12.71 MeV) states are well described by the microscopic
DWIA calculations
Tables of Hyperonic Matter Equation of State for Core-Collapse Supernovae
We present sets of equation of state (EOS) of nuclear matter including
hyperons using an SU_f(3) extended relativistic mean field (RMF) model with a
wide coverage of density, temperature, and charge fraction for numerical
simulations of core collapse supernovae. Coupling constants of Sigma and Xi
hyperons with the sigma meson are determined to fit the hyperon potential
depths in nuclear matter, U_Sigma(rho_0) ~ +30 MeV and U_Xi(rho_0) ~ -15 MeV,
which are suggested from recent analyses of hyperon production reactions. At
low densities, the EOS of uniform matter is connected with the EOS by Shen et
al., in which formation of finite nuclei is included in the Thomas-Fermi
approximation. In the present EOS, the maximum mass of neutron stars decreases
from 2.17 M_sun (Ne mu) to 1.63 M_sun (NYe mu) when hyperons are included. In a
spherical, adiabatic collapse of a 15 star by the hydrodynamics
without neutrino transfer, hyperon effects are found to be small, since the
temperature and density do not reach the region of hyperon mixture, where the
hyperon fraction is above 1 % (T > 40 MeV or rho_B > 0.4 fm^{-3}).Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures (Fig.3 and related comments on pion potential are

Complex Scaled Spectrum Completeness for Coupled Channels
The Complex Scaling Method (CSM) provides scattering wave functions which
regularize resonances and suggest a resolution of the identity in terms of such
resonances, completed by the bound states and a smoothed continuum. But, in the
case of inelastic scattering with many channels, the existence of such a
resolution under complex scaling is still debated. Taking advantage of results
obtained earlier for the two channel case, this paper proposes a representation
in which the convergence of a resolution of the identity can be more easily
tested. The representation is valid for any finite number of coupled channels
for inelastic scattering without rearrangement.Comment: Latex file, 13 pages, 4 eps-figure
The Earliest Optical Observations of GRB 030329
We present the earliest optical imaging observations of GRB 030329 related to
SN 2003dh. The burst was detected by the HETE-2 satellite at 2003 March 29,
11:37:14.67 UT. Our wide-field monitoring started 97 minutes before the trigger
and the burst position was continuously observed. We found no precursor or
contemporaneous flare brighter than () in 32 s (64 s) timescale
between 10:00 and 13:00 UT. Follow-up time series photometries started at
12:51:39 UT (75 s after position notice through the GCN) and continued for more
than 5 hours. The afterglow was at min after burst.
Its fading between 1.2 and 6.3 hours is well characterized by a single
power-law of the form in -band. No significant flux variation was
detected and upper limits are derived as % in
minutes to hours timescales and % in seconds to
minutes timescales. Such a featureless lightcurve is explained by the smooth
distribution of circumburst medium. Another explanation is that the optical
band was above the synchrotron cooling frequency where emergent flux is
insensitive to the ambient density contrasts. Extrapolation of the afterglow
lightcurve to the burst epoch excludes the presence of an additional flare
component at minutes as seen in GRB 990123 and GRB 021211.Comment: ApJL, in pres
