Majorana fermions in s-wave noncentrosymmetric superconductor with Rashba and Dresselhaus (110) spin-orbit couplings
The asymmetric spin-orbit (SO) interactions play a crucial role in realizing
topological phases in noncentrosymmetric superconductor (NCS).We investigate
the edge states and the vortex core states in s-wave NCS with Rashba and
Dresselhaus (110) SO couplings by both numerical and analytical methods. In
particular, we demonstrate that there exists a novel semimetal phase
characterized by the flat Andreev bound states in the phase diagram of the
s-wave Dresselhaus NCS which supports the emergence of Majorana fermion (MF).
The flat dispersion implies a peak in the density of states which has a clear
experimental signature in the tunneling conductance measurements and the MFs
proposed here should be experimentally detectable
The Normal State Resistivity of Grain Boundaries in YBa2Cu3O7-delta
Using an optimized bridge geometry we have been able to make accurate
measurements of the properties of YBa2Cu3O7-delta grain boundaries above Tc.
The results show a strong dependence of the change of resistance with
temperature on grain boundary angle. Analysis of our results in the context of
band-bending allows us to estimate the height of the potential barrier present
at the grain boundary interface.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure
Detection and mitigation of signaling storms in mobile networks
Mobile Networks are subject to "signaling storms" launched by malware or apps, which overload the the bandwidth at the cell, the backbone signaling servers, and Cloud servers, and may also deplete the battery power of mobile devices. This paper reviews the subject and discusses a novel technique to detect and mitigate such signaling storms. Through a mathematical analysis we introduce a technique based on tracking time-out transitions in the signaling system that can substantially reduce both the number of misbehaving mobiles and the signaling overload in the backbone
Storms in mobile networks
Mobile networks are vulnerable to signalling attacks and storms caused by traffic that overloads the control plane through excessive signalling, which can be introduced via malware and mobile botnets. With the advent of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications over mobile networks, the potential for signalling storms increases due to the normally periodic nature of M2M traffic and the sheer number of communicating nodes. Several mobile network operators have also experienced signalling storms due to poorly designed applications that result in service outage. The radio resource control (RRC) protocol is particularly susceptible to such attacks, motivating this work within the EU FP7 NEMESYS project which presents simulations that clarify the temporal dynamics of user behavior and signalling, allowing us to suggest how such attacks can be detected and mitigated
Kinematic approach to the mixed state geometric phase in nonunitary evolution
A kinematic approach to the geometric phase for mixed quantal states in
nonunitary evolution is proposed. This phase is manifestly gauge invariant and
can be experimentally tested in interferometry. It leads to well-known results
when the evolution is unitary.Comment: Minor changes; journal reference adde
Higher Derivative CP(N) Model and Quantization of the Induced Chern-Simons Term
We consider higher derivative CP(N) model in 2+1 dimensions with the
Wess-Zumino-Witten term and the topological current density squared term. We
quantize the theory by using the auxiliary gauge field formulation in the path
integral method and prove that the extended model remains renormalizable in the
large N limit. We find that the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory is dynamically
induced in the large N effective action at a nontrivial UV fixed point. The
quantization of the Chern-Simons term is also discussed.Comment: 8 pages, no figure, a minor change in abstract, added Comments on the
quantization of the Chern-Simons term whose coefficient is also corrected,
and some references are added. Some typos are corrected. Added a new
paragraph checking the equivalence between (3) and (5), and a related

Energy levels of the soliton--heavy-meson bound states
We investigate the bound states of heavy mesons with finite masses to a
classical soliton solution in the Skyrme model. For a given model Lagrangian we
solve the equations of motion exactly so that the heavy vector mesons are
treated on the same footing as the heavy pseudoscalar mesons. All the energy
levels of higher grand spin states as well as the ground state are given over a
wide range of the heavy meson masses. We also examine the validity of the
approximations used in the literatures. The recoil effect of finite mass
soliton is naively estimated.Comment: 24 pages, REVTeX v3.0, 6 figures are available upon request
Deformations of coisotropic submanifolds for fibrewise entire Poisson structures
We show that deformations of a coisotropic submanifold inside a fibrewise
entire Poisson manifold are controlled by the -algebra introduced by
Oh-Park (for symplectic manifolds) and Cattaneo-Felder. In the symplectic case,
we recover results previously obtained by Oh-Park. Moreover we consider the
extended deformation problem and prove its obstructedness
