Can realistic nuclear interactions tolerate a resonant tetraneutron ?
The possible existence of four-neutron resonances close to the physical
energy region is explored. Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations have been solved in
configuration space using realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction models. Complex
Scaling and Analytical Continuation in the Coupling Constant methods were used
to follow the resonance pole trajectories, which emerge out of artificially
bound tetraneutron states. The final pole positions for four-neutron states lie
in the third energy quadrant with negative real energy parts and should thus
not be physically observable.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figs, 2 tables. To be published in Phys. Rev.
Three-neutron resonance trajectories for realistic interaction models
Three-neutron resonances are investigated using realistic nucleon-nucleon
interaction models. The resonance pole trajectories are explored by first
adding an additional interaction to artificially bind the three-neutron system
and then gradually removing it. The pole positions for the three-neutron states
up to J=5/2 are localized in the third energy quadrant-Im (E)<=0, Re
(E)<=0-well before the additional interaction is removed. Our study shows that
realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction models exclude any possible experimental
signature of three-neutron resonances.Comment: 13 pages ; 8 figs ; 5 table
The Gender Earnings Differential in Russia After a Decade of Economic Transition
The gender earnings differential in Russia 2000-02 is examined using a nationally representative household survey. Adjusted for hours worked, women’s monthly earnings are 62% of men’s, and women’s long-run effective wage is 69% of men’s. While women’s higher human capital endowments reduce the gender earnings differential, job segregation by gender accounts for about three quarters of it. Wage arrears compress earnings actually received and slightly reduce the gender pay gap. The unexplained part of the differential is largely attributed to discrimination against women.gender, Russia, transition, wages
The Sectoral Distribution of Employment and Job Segregation by Gender in Russia
The gender patterns of industrial, occupational, and firm-type distribution of employment in Russia 2000-02 are examined using a nationally representative household survey. After a decade of reforms, the degree of gender job segregation remains high. Women gravitate to lower paid industries and occupations, while men concentrate in more highly paid sectors of the economy. The attitudes and stereotypes resulting from the patriarchal social and cultural legacy play an important role in determining the patterns of gender job segregation by influencing both employers’ preferences and workers’ choices.employment, gender, Russia, transition
Changes in gender wage discrimination in the 1990s: a tale of three very different economies
In this paper gender wage decompositions are performed for three very different countries, that is, Japan, Russia and the USA for the years of 1993 and 2000, using the ISSP data set. From the research of this paper, it is shown that the gender wage differential in Japan has narrowed between 1993 and 2000, and the results reveal price and characteristics effects for this country that differ markedly from those observed elsewhere, with female disadvantage being particularly marked. Also, this paper finds that gender wage differentials in Russia and the USA have increased during the years considered here
