Brain macrophages in human cortical contusions as indicator of survival period
The aim of this study was to establish a morphologic time scheme with which cases of cerebral contusion with unknown survival periods can be dated. Our study of 275 cases was limited to qualitative and quantitative changes in macrophages. The appearance of macrophages and their distribution as well as their content of neutral fat, esterified cholesterol, erythrocytes, siderin, hematoidin, and ceroid were correlated with the survival period. For each cytologic criterium, the observation period, distribution-free limits of tolerance, and relative frequency of identification in different survival periods were determined, and the limits of confidence calculated. The findings permit the dating of trauma in cases with unknown survival periods. Moreover, the probability of this dating was calculated
Determined to die! Ability to act following multiple self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head. The cook county office of medical examiner experience (2005-2012) and review of literature
Cases of multiple (considered 2+) self-inflicted gunshot wounds are a rarity and require careful examination of the scene of
occurrence; thorough consideration of the decedent’s psychiatric, medical, and social histories; and accurate postmortem documentation of the
gunshot wounds. We present a series of four cases of multiple self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s
Office between 2005 and 2012 including the first case report of suicide involving eight gunshot wounds to the head. In addition, a
review of the literature concerning multiple self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head is performed. The majority of reported cases document
two gunshot entrance wound defects. Temporal regions are the most common affected regions (especially the right and left temples). Determining
the capability to act following a gunshot wound to the head is necessary in crime scene reconstruction and in differentiation between homicide
and suicide

THE EFFECT OF ORIENTATION-NEUTRAL CURSORS ON MOVEMENT TIME, POSITIONING PERFORMANCE, AND STIMULUS-RESPONSE (S-R) COMPATIBILITY
Very little research exists on the topic of computer cursor design and utilization. Since this is an important area in successful and efficient user interaction with graphical user interfaces, additional study is necessary. To investigate the impact of cursors with no implicit directional cues (orientation-neutral cursors) on movement time, positioning performance, and stimulus-response compatibility, six experiments were designed. In these experiments, six orientation-neutral cursors were compared against each other as well as against four directional cursors. Twelve participants with advanced computer skills between the ages of 18 and 30, right-handed, and normal or corrected-to-normal eyesight participated in the experiments, which were conducted in a tightly controlled environment. The study contained six different experiments, each designed to evaluate and analyze a set of cursor types. Each experiment consisted of nine targets, eight arranged on an imaginary circle surrounding a central target. Participants were instructed to point-and-click alternating between the center target and highlighted targets on the outer circle with emphasis on speed (movement time) and accuracy (positioning performance). All experiments measured two dependent variables, movement time and positioning performance. Statistical analysis tests revealed a correlation for some cursor types between the two dependent variables, while changing target shapes indicated no statistical significance on the overall results. Slower movement times resulted in more precise positioning performances (greater degree of accuracy) and vice versa. This study concludes that there is no one cursor of those tested that performed best for anyone. Moreover, this study did not provide the same results in the replication of the mouse-input-portion of Po et al. (2005). The results of this study provide material upon which further studies could expand
This paper offers an analysis of violence and racism in the light of relations between Indians and Metis in Mexico. The starting point of the analysis is symbolic violence, considered as normal in the cultural construct of the nation and acted out in the tendency to criminalize indigenous peoples. Specific aspects of violence, symbolic or otherwise, are presented in this paper to illustrate what is emerging from inter-ethnic relations in Mexico City.
TensorLayer: A Versatile Library for Efficient Deep Learning Development
Deep learning has enabled major advances in the fields of computer vision,
natural language processing, and multimedia among many others. Developing a
deep learning system is arduous and complex, as it involves constructing neural
network architectures, managing training/trained models, tuning optimization
process, preprocessing and organizing data, etc. TensorLayer is a versatile
Python library that aims at helping researchers and engineers efficiently
develop deep learning systems. It offers rich abstractions for neural networks,
model and data management, and parallel workflow mechanism. While boosting
efficiency, TensorLayer maintains both performance and scalability. TensorLayer
was released in September 2016 on GitHub, and has helped people from academia
and industry develop real-world applications of deep learning.Comment: ACM Multimedia 201
