Post-COVID Symptoms in EU Cross-Border Cooperation

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the conditions of normal life in many aspects. However, it most impacted the life of people around national borders. What is more, while in other regions, after the successful vaccination campaigns, life begins to return normal, the borderlands still display signs of the effect of the pandemic, what we could call post-COVID symptoms. Developing the Silver Economy and Related Government Resources for Seniors: A Position Paper

The precarious rights of senior citizens, especially those who are highly educated and who are expected to counsel and guide the younger generations, has stimulated the creation internationally of advocacy associations and opinion leader groups. The strength of these groups, however, varies from country to country. In some countries, they are supported and are the focus of intense interest; in others, they are practically ignored. For this is reason we believe that the creation of a network of all these associations is essential. The proposed network would act as a support for the already-existing policies of the United Nations' High Commission for Human Rights, of independent experts, and of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People. All three have long ago recommended the creation of a recognized instrument for uniting presently scattered efforts. The proposed network, therefore, will seek to promote the international exchange of relevant expertise, and it will reinforce the commitments and actions that single countries are currently taking to meet these objectives. For example, informative public events can be organised to promote particular support initiatives and to provide an opportunity for new members of the network to be presented. The network will promote health for senior citizens, disease prevention, senior mobility, safe free time for seniors, alimentary education, protection against new risks and dangers, as well as equity in the services necessary for seniors to adopt new information and communication technologies. In the case of retired academic members, the network will promote equality with respect to continuing use of digital technologies (particularly email), continuing access to research libraries, and the guaranteed ability for seniors to fund their own research programs and to deliver free seminars

Examining Cross-Border Cultural Tourism as an Indicator of Territorial Integration across the Slovak–Hungarian Border

There are numerous examples of cross-border regions in Europe, which are regions not properly demarcated by national borders. One of the main driving forces of the European Union is to turn the dividing borders into connecting borders by strengthening the cohesion between states and regions, thus, encouraging regions to remedy the existing ethnic and cultural fragmentation by increasing the intensity and number of cross-border contacts. Our research focuses on proving that, in symbolic places, such as the cross-border area of Komárom and Komárno, the cultural values, monuments, and heritage sites are the strongest attraction factors for nationality-based cultural tourism. To support our hypothesis, we conducted an empirical survey within the framework of the H2020 SPOT (Social and Innovative Platform on Cultural Tourism and its potential towards deepening Europeanisation) in the cross-border region of Komárom and Komárno. The evaluation concentrated on four aspects of cultural tourism: the nature of cultural tourism in the area, the resident and visitor perceptions of the cultural tourism offerings, opportunities to increase cross-border collaboration, and options to improve the cultural tourism offerings of the area. Our results show that, although there is a great potential in the cross-border tourist destination of Komárom–Komárno, the integration of the (once united) two towns is advancing very slowly, which can be witnessed in the weaknesses of tourism integration as well

Rhinocerebralis zygomycosisból gyógyult diabeteses férfi esete = Case of a diabetic man cured from rhinocerebral zygomycosis

A zygomycosis (mucormycosis) ritka, kifejezetten agresszív lefolyású opportunista infekció, amelyet a Zygomycota (Járomspórás gombák) törzs Zygomycetes osztályába tartozó gombák okoznak. Jellemzően immunhiány, neutropenia, vastúlterhelés, hematológiai betegség, illetve diabeteses ketoacidosis eseteiben fordul elő. Esetismertetés: A szerzők 18 éves, 9 éve inzulindependens diabetes mellitusban szenvedő, rossz compliance-szel rendelkező beteg kórtörténetét ismertetik. Súlyos állapotban, beszűkült tudattal, ketoacidosisban, orrmelléküreg-gyulladásra utaló egyoldali periorbitalis duzzanattal, bőrpírral került kórházba. Bár az endoszkópos sinusműtét során vett váladékból methicillinrezisztens Staphylococcus aureus és Pseudomonas aeruginosa tenyészett, a beteg anamnézise, klinikuma zygomycosis gyanúját keltette, emiatt amphotericin-B-kezelést indítottak. Szövettani, illetve mikrobiológiai vizsgálatok során Rhizopus oryzae okozta invazív infekció igazolódott. Megbeszélés: Az antifungális kezelés ismételt sebészeti beavatkozásokkal és adjuváns granulocytakolónia-stimuláló faktor alkalmazásával kiegészítve eredményesnek bizonyult. A beteg négy hónappal hazabocsátását követően él és panaszmentes. Orv. Hetil., 2010, 39, 1591–1596. | Zygomycosis (mucormycosis) is a rare, highly agressive opportunistic fungal disease caused by saprophytic fungi, belonging to the division Zygomycota, class Zygomycetes. Patients with immunodeficiency, neutropenia, iron overload, hematological malignancies, as well as diabetics with ketoacidosis are typically affected. Case Presentation: Authors describe the case of an eighteen-year old man with poor compliance suffering from diabetes since the age of nine. He was admitted with ketoacidotic somnolence in severe general condition with unilateral periorbital erythematous edema. Though from nasal exudates gained by the fibero-endoscopic sinus surgery Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomas aeruginosa was cultured, amphotericin-B was administered as the medical history, clinical picture suggested presence of zygomycosis. An invasive infection caused by Rhizopus oryzae was confirmed by histology and microbiology. Discussion: The combination of antifungal therapy, repeated surgical interventions and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor resulted in good clinical response.
