    Exploring the resource and capabilities of food related enterprises in rural Denmark: Implications for rural enterprises in Ghana

    Developing economies stands to gain much by learning from the experiences of the developed economies. The study aims to explore the extent to which rural food enterprises utilise their capabilities to organise their resources in the experience economy to create value and remain competitive. The article uses a qualitative open-ended interviews to explore the issues using two cases of small food related enterprises in Denmark. The purpose of the method is to allow the respondents to construct the meaning of the topic from their own perspectives. Using the dominant themes as the main techniques to analyse the data, coupled with the hermeneutics approach, the results show that an entrepreneur’s capability is crucial with regard to small enterprises in rural settings. Specifically, the two case studies illustrate the capabilities of business owners to identify assets at their establishments and the municipality level and reconfigure them into objects aimed at providing experiences for visitors seeking out for rural idyll. The implications of this study on policy and practice on entrepreneurship development in rural Ghana are suggested based on the results.Keywords: Resource-based view, capabilities, rural entrepreneurs, food related enterprises, Experience Economy, Denmark, Ghan

    Scientometric Analysis of Global Scientific Literature on Aging in Place.

    The amount of literature reporting "aging-in-place" studies has increased sharply in recent decades. However, the studies have taken a global view of the range and scope of the research that has taken place. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of the current status of the aging in place research themes published as scientific articles between 1970 and 2021, using the Web of Science database. VOSviewer software was employed to map and visualize the 1331 items of bibliographic data retrieved. The findings reveal a continuous growing trend in the publication of aging in place research. Most productive institutions derive from the USA. The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is the most preferred Journal. The most popular research hotspots or areas include; older adults, aging, housing, dementia, long-term care, and technology, and their associations with the field of "aging in place" field were elucidated. This study offers several valuable insights to scholars, research institutions, and policymakers, enabling a better understanding of the developments in the aging in place research domain

    Experimental and Theoretical Studies of (E)-N'-1-(4- propylbenzylidene)nicotinohydrazide as Corrosion Inhibitor of Mild Steel in 1 M HC

    The efficiency of a novel Schiff base namely (E)-N'-1-(4-propylbenzylidene)nicotinohydrazide (PBNH) was investigated as corrosion inhibitor of mild steel (MS) in 1M HCl using weight loss technique at 303 and 313 K. It was established that corrosion rate of mild steel increases with increase in temperature and concentration of HCl. Results showed that PBNH considerably inhibited the corrosion of mild steel in a 1 M HCl solution and inhibition efficiency is about 70% at 4 × 10–4 M PBNH at both temperatures. The inhibi� tion efficiency of PBNH increased with an increase in concentration and temperature. The adsorption model obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the kinetic–thermodynamic model and the value of free energy of adsorption, indicated that the adsorption of PBNH was a spontaneous process and was both an elec� trostatic�adsorption (physisorption) and adsorption on the basis of donor�acceptor interactions (chemisorp�tion). Thermodynamic parameters calculated show the spontaneity and endothermic nature of the process and also reveal the favourable affinity of PBNH towards the mild steel surface. Quantum chemical calcula�tions based on PM3 method was performed on PBNH and calculated parameters gave useful information to explain the interaction between the surface of metal and PBNH

    Body Mass Index, Blood Pressure and Serum Cortisol Level as Stress Index in Symptomatic HIV/AIDS Male Subjects on Antiretroviral Therapy Negative to Malaria Parasite in Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria

    Background: HIV infection is a risk factor for a variety of endocrine problems. Objectives: This study investigated the body mass index (BMI), Systolic blood pressure (SBP), Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and serum cortisol level as stress factor/index symptomatic HIV/AIDS male subjects on ART who are negative to malaria parasite in Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria. Methods: A total of 274 adult male participants aged between 18 and 60 (42 ±13) years were randomly recruited at the Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) Centre in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital and grouped based on WHO criteria for staging HIV into symptomatic HIV (stage 11) infected male participants on ART (A: n=69), Symptomatic HIV subjects not on ART (B: n= 69), Asymptomatic HIV positive subjects (C: n= 68) and HIV seronegative subjects (D: n= 68). Blood samples were collected from the participants for the determination of HIV status by immunochromatography and HIV confirmation by Western Blot. Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) was used to assay for cortisol level. Results: The results showed a significantly increased BMI and decreased mean serum cortisol level in HIV/AIDS seropositive participants on ART than in those, not on ART (p<0.05). Also, the BMI and mean serum cortisol level were significantly decreased and increased respectively in  HIV/AIDS seropositive participants not on ART than in Asymptomatic HIV positive subjects and control respectively (p<0.05). However, the mean SBP and DBP did not differ significantly between the groups studied (p>0.05). Conclusion: This study revealed a decreased stress index in HIV/AIDS subjects on ART with hypercortisolism and lower BMI in symptomatic HIV participants, not on ART.     Personalized ctDNA micro-panels can monitor and predict clinical outcomes for patients with triple-negative breast cancer

    Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in peripheral blood has been used to predict prognosis and therapeutic response for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. However, previous approaches typically use large comprehensive panels of genes commonly mutated across all breast cancers. Given the reduction in sequencing costs and decreased turnaround times associated with panel generation, the objective of this study was to assess the use of custom micro-panels for tracking disease and predicting clinical outcomes for patients with TNBC. Paired tumor-normal samples from patients with TNBC were obtained at diagnosis (T0) and whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed to identify somatic variants associated with individual tumors. Custom micro-panels of 4-6 variants were created for each individual enrolled in the study. Peripheral blood was obtained at baseline, during Cycle 1 Day 3, at time of surgery, and in 3-6 month intervals after surgery to assess variant allele fraction (VAF) at different timepoints during disease course. The VAF was compared to clinical outcomes to evaluate the ability of custom micro-panels to predict pathological response, disease-free intervals, and patient relapse. A cohort of 50 individuals were evaluated for up to 48 months post-diagnosis of TNBC. In total, there were 33 patients who did not achieve pathological complete response (pCR) and seven patients developed clinical relapse. For all patients who developed clinical relapse and had peripheral blood obtained ≤ 6 months prior to relapse (n = 4), the custom ctDNA micro-panels identified molecular relapse at an average of 4.3 months prior to clinical relapse. The custom ctDNA panel results were moderately associated with pCR such that during disease monitoring, only 11% of patients with pCR had a molecular relapse, whereas 47% of patients without pCR had a molecular relapse (Chi-Square; p-value = 0.10). In this study, we show that a custom micro-panel of 4-6 markers can be effectively used to predict outcomes and monitor remission for patients with TNBC. These custom micro-panels show high sensitivity for detecting molecular relapse in advance of clinical relapse. The use of these panels could improve patient outcomes through early detection of relapse with preemptive intervention prior to symptom onset

    Josephson effect in double-barrier superconductor-ferromagnet junctions

    We study the Josephson effect in ballistic double-barrier SIFIS planar junctions, consisting of bulk superconductors (S), a clean metallic ferromagnet (F), and insulating interfaces (I). We solve the scattering problem based on the Bogoliubov--de Gennes equations and derive a general expression for the dc Josephson current, valid for arbitrary interfacial transparency and Fermi wave vectors mismatch (FWVM). We consider the coherent regime in which quasiparticle transmission resonances contribute significantly to the Andreev process. The Josephson current is calculated for various parameters of the junction, and the influence of both interfacial transparency and FWVM is analyzed. For thin layers of strong ferromagnet and finite interfacial transparency, we find that coherent (geometrical) oscillations of the maximum Josephson current are superimposed on the oscillations related to the crossover between 0 and π\pi states. For the same case we find that the temperature-induced 0π0-\pi transition occurs if the junction is very close to the crossovers at zero temperature.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure
